Ma Long, born in Anshan, Liaoning, the “home of table tennis”, was sent by his father to practice table tennis
when he was 5 years old. At 15, Ma Long joined the national team and was the least talkative boy of the players.
His character was as outstanding as his overall strength. In 2006, at 18, Ma Long won his first team world
championship and was seen as hope for the next generation in the national team.
Behind early fame of the genius is Ma Long’s almost paranoid harshness towards himself. Ma Long’s daily
routine throughout four seasons was a two-point line between the dormitory and the training hall, and he was the
first to arrive and the last to leave every day. He had been doing so for ten years, monotonously and repetitively.
Liu Guoliang once said, “I went to the table tennis hall on a Sunday morning for an unannounced inspection to see
how many players were training on Sunday. Only one person in the men’s first team was there... A genius is not
your fear; your fear is that a genius works harder than you do.” Such a genius is Ma Long.
第 4页/共 12页
However, after joining the team for nearly a decade, he suffered various types of failure, and thus was
questioned by everyone. In the 2014 Men’s World Cup(Ms-Final), Ma Long was defeated by Zhang Jike.
“Everything will be denied without a championship.” Ma Long, who is very strict with himself, was under pressure
and torment that others couldn’t imagine. At the lowest point, Ma Long had the idea of retiring. But he was
unwilling to just “disappear”.
In the Suzhou 2015 World Championships, Ma Long crowned his career, winning the singles champion, and it
had been ten years since he won a world championship last time. The title seemed to give him new prospect and he
has been unstoppable and won many titles ever since including winning the Olympic title.
The most perfect ending for an athlete is to be successful and retire with fame. But Ma Long does not want to
follow suit. He does have the ambition to go down in history. He wants people to know Ma Long when they
mention table tennis in the future. He did so a long time ago, and continues to do so.
4. What do we know about Ma Long’s daily training
A. He was casual with his schedule.
B. He was extremely hard on himself.
C. He preferred to train at the dormitory.
D He was always the first to leave training.
5. What can we infer from Liu Guoliang’s words
A. Ma Long was fearfully talented.
B. Ma Long’s hard work finally paid off.
C. Ma Long focused on socializing with other players.
D. Ma Long’s diligence was more awesome than his talent.
6. What does the underlined word “torment” mean in paragraph 3
A. Misery B. Desperation C. Determination D. Madness
7. Which of the following best describes Ma Long
A. Ambitious and humorous.
B. Outstanding and outgoing.
C. Hardworking and persistent.
D. Considerate and enthusiastic.

AI Suitcase is a smart suitcase developed by a blind computer scientist to aid the visually impaired in
navigating their surroundings more efficiently without the aid of white canes or guide dogs.
65-year-old Chieko Asakawa has been completely blind since she was only 14, following a tragic accident.
She is a computer scientist. As someone who has long struggled with navigating unfamiliar and crowded places,
Asakawa wished to help the visually impaired get around easier. In 2017, she came up with the idea of a smart
suitcase that could guide its user with the help of built-in sensors and cameras. Six years later, the AI Suitcase is
almost ready for its commercial debut.
“AI guides me as it replaces the sight I have lost. It is a dream to be able to go out freely by myself,” Asakawa
said during a 2020 interview when her invention first made international news headlines.
After the user inputs their destination on their smartphone, the AI Suitcase, which is small enough to be
brought onboard flights as carry-on luggage, can plan an optimal route to that point. The smart suitcase then relies
on a suit of sensors and a precise GPS system that can determine its position within a 10-centimeter margin of error
to assess its surroundings and avoid bumping into other people and obstacles on its route.
The AI Suitcase offers feedback to the user through built-in haptic sensors in the handle. Although earlier
prototypes were equipped with small wheels best suited for indoor use, the latest iteration of the smart suitcase
features large, sturdy wheels and a powerful motor that can tackle outdoor environments as well.
The ingenious device is currently available for testing by any visually impaired person in front of the Miraikan
Museum until February 6th. Asakawa and the companies that financed her work over the last few years want to
make the AI Suitcase available for hire at airports, shopping centers, and train stations in the near future.
8. What inspired Chieko Asakawa to create the AI Suitcase
A. A tragic accident to a friend.
B. Her own difficult experience.
C. Her passion for computer science.
D. Requests from the visually impaired.
9. How does the AI Suitcase assists its user
A. By taking the place of the user’s eyes.
B. By making sounds to warn obstacles.
C. By updating sensors and a GPS system.
D. By providing haptic feedback to the user.
10. Which best describes the future of the AI suitcase
第 6页/共 12页
A. Skeptical. B. Worrying. C. Promising. D. Uncertain.
11. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the passage
A. To call for a concern for the visually impaired.
B. To demonstrate the contribution of Chieko Asakawa.
C. To introduce a smart suitcase for the visually impaired.
D. To explain the reasons behind the AI Suitcase’s creation.

To find food in the darkness, deep-diving whales rely on their built-in sonar, which bounces sound waves off
potential prey to reveal their location. But to these whales, plastic junk floating in the ocean may also “sound” just
like a delicious squid.
As plastic permeates (充满) marine environments, it’s also showing up in the guts of marine mammals across
hundreds of reported cases, damaging their stomach tissues and causing infection, suffocation, and malnutrition to
the point of starvation. Washed-up whales carry tens of pounds of plastic trash in their stomachs, a testament to this
pervasive issue.
“Whales seem to be almost incapable of not eating plastic in the ocean,” says Matthew Savoca, a marine
biologist at Stanford University. “It’s not because they’re stupid,” he says. “It’s because plastic debris like shopping
bags bear remarkably similar “echoes” to those preys due to some combination of their shape, size, degree of
weathering, and chemical composition.”
For animals such as sea turtles, some studies indicate plastic bags and films billowing (翻滚) in the water may
simply look similar to foods like jellyfish and squid. Other researches have suggested sharks and fish may also
confuse plastic for prey due to visual cues.
And why would they Before plastic existed, Redaelli and her colleagues note, anything a whale encountered
in the deep ocean that returned a strong enough echo was probably biological — and likely edible. “They’re not
expecting to see anything in the water other than food,” Merrill says, “so if they encounter something with a signal,
they’re going to go after it.” “It’s the worst kind of suffering,” Savoca says. “They’re in pain, they’re starving, but
they think they’re eating, so they don’t understand what’s going on.”
“Maybe we can hope that, at some point, whales will learn the difference between plastic and prey,” Redaelli
says. But until then, “the more plastic we keep putting in, the more animals are going to die.”
12. What problem is caused by plastic in the ocean
A. It makes the ocean water more polluted.
第 7页/共 12页
B. It attracts more marine life to the surface.
C. It causes severe damage to certain marine life.
D. It surrounds a great many of marine mammals.
13. Why might whales consume plastic
A. Because whales mistake plastic for prey.
B. Because plastic has identical echoes as preys.
C. Because whales have a strong appetite for plastic.
D. Because plastic is similar to preys in chemical composition.
14. What can be inferred from paragraph 5
A. Whales would go after anything they encounter.
B. Humans expect to watch whales chase their prey.
C. The worst kind of suffering for whales is starving.
D. Whales fail to distinguish between plastic and food.
15. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. The overfishing of marine mammals.
B. The decrease in the number of whales.
C. The approaches to tell plastic from prey.
D. The impact of plastic pollution on marine life.

the long, heavy log onto his shoulders and struggled down the road towards the mountain, he realized that the trip
would not be as easy as he thought.
After he walked for a while, a woodman came up to him and said, “It looks like that log is pretty heavy.
Would you like me to cut some of it off to make it lighter ”
The young man was exhausted, so he said, “I suppose that a little bit cut off the end wouldn’t hurt.” And the
woodman cut two inches off the end.

With the spread of smartphones and computers, taking selfies has become increasingly popular. People love to
share their selfies on social media with friends.
The current situation shows that selfies are a common way for people to express themselves and document their
lives. One reason for this phenomenon is the desire to capture and share moments instantly. Additionally, social
media platforms encourage this behavior by allowing immediate feedback in the form of likes and comments.
In my view, while taking selfies can be fun and a form of self-expression, it is important to strike a balance and
not become overly obsessed with seeking validation from others.
47. 范文
The young man continued to struggle to climb the mountain. After what seemed like an endless journey, he
arrived at the summit where the most beautiful treasure he had ever seen sparkled under the sun’s golden rays.
However, separating him from the glittering prize was a wide, daunting gap that seemed impossible to cross. His
heart raced with excitement and anticipation. Suddenly, he realized the true purpose of the wise old man's peculiar
request. The log was not a burden, but the key to claiming his reward.
The excited young man laid the log across the gap and discovered that it was too short to cover the distance.
Seeing the unreachable treasure, he deeply regretted allowing the woodman, farmer, and trapper to cut eight inches
off the log during his journey. Each cut had seemed insignificant at the time, but now they added up to his downfall.
With a heavy heart, he had to leave the top, knowing the treasure was forever out of reach. As he walked down the
mountain, he looked back sorrowfully at the disappearing treasure, realizing that to achieve his dreams, one must
persevere and bear the struggles without taking shortcuts.
