Plan a Trip to Bali!
If you are looking for a dream holiday destination, then Bali meets most people’s expectations. The travel information below will help you plan your dream trip to Bali.
Best Times to Visit Bali
The wet season(off-season): November to March of the following year is the rainy season. Although there is much rainfall, most activities can be carried out except for the volcano hiking. As most of these five months are the off-season for tourism, flight and hotel prices are low, and tour products and activities are cheap.
The dry season(high-season): April to October, with less rainfall, is the best season for surfing, diving, mountain hiking and bike riding. During this period, there are many local festivals, so it’s a good time to enjoy cultural activities. For example, the Bali Art Festival, held from mid-June to mid-July, is very attractive to visitors. July and August are the busiest times in Bali. So, if you don’t want to join the crowds, just avoid these two months.
During the Christmas and New Year holidays and Chinese New Year, the number of visitors rises sharply. Hotel rooms are easily fully-booked in these two periods, and bookings need to be made 1—3 months before your trip to Bali.
Best Places to Visit in Bali
With over 5,000 square kilometers, there are many places you can visit in Bali. In general, tourism in Bali can be divided into three parts: northern/ eastern, central and southern.
●The northern and eastern parts are good for mountain climbing, hiking, volcano adventures and diving.
●Central Bali is well known for its village scenery, terraced r ice fields(梯田), arts and cultural towns.
●Southern Bali has the best places for beach time, sunbathing, surfing and various watersports.

Last Monday, I visited Jalan Besar to find a new fan blade(风扇叶片)for a standing fan that my daughters had broken.
I worked in the Jalan Besar area 30 years ago and remembered that there were lots of small hardware shops selling unusual things so I thought that I would have no problem finding a fan blade. However, after walking around for almost an hour, I found out that these shops were no longer around.
When I was ready to give up and go home, I spotted an old-fashioned hardware store. After being greeted by a woman, I explained my predicament. She immediately asked me to show her the broken blade. Out of nowhere, a man who looked to be in his 60s came out.
He asked to see the blade and then disappeared into the shop. He came back with a blade but it did not look the same as what I had in my hand. We compared the two blades and he said that it might work.
I asked him how much it was. He told me that he had taken the blade off an old fan that someone had brought in for repair. He said, “It didn’t cost me anything, so why should I charge you for it ” That really touched me. I took the blade home and it worked perfectly! My daughters got a “new” fan for nothing.
When I told my wife(almost in her 60s)this story, she said this reminded her of the kind aunties and uncles who used to run small shops and were always ready to help others when she was growing up.

Fairs and theme parks never seem to lose their attraction. My kids love them as much as I do. Not everyone will agree with me though. My wife is frightened of anything more exciting than the merry-go-round(旋转木马). So why do I love Blackpool’s Big One while she goes white on hearing the words “roller coaster”
According to psychologists, it comes down to something called a “Type T” personality. People with Type T personalities are thrill-seekers who welcome the uncertainty of activities that most people would find hair-raising. It seems some of us enjoy the physical sensations associated with fear: the adrenaline(肾上腺素)rush and the beating heart. Scary rides make us feel alive. Frightening experiences encourage a sense of excitement once we’re back on solid ground, experts say, when we’ re within a “protective frame” that assures us that deep down we’re still safe.
Recent research has found certain genes(基因)which may be responsible for those of us with Type T personalities. Biochemists have separated a gene called DRD4 which seems more common in roller coaster lovers like me.
New technologies have allowed engineers to design coasters that change speeds quickly, shoot up hundreds of feet into the air and make all sorts of twists. Research suggests that extreme fairground rides tend to appeal particularly to those of us who lead stressful, structured or controlled lives. It’s certainly true that roller coasters are a way of breaking out of the boring life. Theme parks allow us to act like children again, to experience true excitement and behave a little wildly. Where else as an adult can you scream at the top of your lungs and throw your arms in the air without being sent for psychological evaluation
If you’re looking for a great place this summer where you can get in touch with your inner risk-taker, head for the nearest theme park. It’s a scream!

A.It is genetically determined.
B.It is common among people.
C.It is caused by living separately.
D.It is a result of a physical disorder.
31.Why do some people like extreme fairground rides according to research
A.They help relieve stress.
B.They are technologically designed.
C.They contribute to parent-kid relationships.
D.They are a replacement for psychological evaluation.

Jason M. Allen was almost too nervous to enter his first art competition. Now, his award-winning image is stirring debates about whether art can be generated by a computer, and what, exactly, it means to be an artist.
In August 2022, Allen, a 39-year-old game designer who lives in Pueblo West, Colorado, won first place in the “digital arts/ digitally-operated photography” category at the Colorado State Fair Fine Arts Competition. His winning image, titled Théatre D’opéra Spatial, was made with Midjourney— an artificial intelligence(AI)system that can produce detailed images when fed written prompts(提示).
Allen’s winning image looks like a bright cross between a classic and modern painting. It’s one of three such images he entered in the competition. Allen posted excitedly about his win on Midjourney’s Discord server on August 25, along with pictures of his three entries. It spread quickly on social media days later, with many artists feeling angry about Allen’s win because of his use of AI to create the image. “He just pressed a few buttons to make a digital art piece,” one user wrote. “We’re watching the death of art unfold before our eyes.”
However, to get the final three images he entered in the competition, Allen said, he took over 80 hours. First, he played around with phrasing that led Midjourney to generate images of women in nice dresses and space helmets. Over time, with slight adjustments to his written prompts, he created 900 repeating processes of what led to his final three images. He gave the final touch to those three images in Photoshop. Then he ran the images through another software program called Gigapixel AI that can improve resolution(分辨率)and had the images printed at a local print shop.
Allen is glad that debates over whether AI can be used to make art are getting so much attention. “Rather than hating the technology or the people behind it, we need to recognize it’s a powerful tool and use it for good so we can all move forward,” Allen said.
32.What do we know about Théatre D’opéra Spatial
A.Its beauty is widely accepted.
B.Its creation is an easy process.
C.It has caused a lot of arguments.
D.It shows the death of traditional art.
33.What did Allen do to create his entries
A.He edited his final images in Photoshop.
B.He searched for smart written prompts.
C.He fed Midjourney with famous paintings.
D.He developed the software named Gigapixel.
34.What is Allen’s attitude to the debates over AI-created art
A.Worried. B.Uncaring. C.Annoyed. D.Positive.
35.What might be the best title for the text
A.AI Beats out Human Artists in the Art Field
B.AI Won an Art Contest and Artists Are Angry
C.An Artist Wins State Fair Art Contest and Laughs
D.The Artist from Pueblo West Is Defending His Work

How to Read Candidates’(应试者)Body Language in an Interview
Body language matters, especially in interviews. 36 Our posture, gestures, movements or facial expressions can shape our reputations. Learning to read body language is about understanding candidates’ motives.
Reading body language during interviews can provide valuable insights into a candidate’s personality. 37 Here are some common interview body language signals that you can learn to read.
Observe extreme behaviour. A candidate’s harmless action doesn’t mean he won’t fit in well at your company. But be careful about extreme behaviours, like a person constantly checking their phone.
38 You can read people’s body language by observing changes in their movements or posture. Imagine, for example, that a candidate suddenly starts tapping their foot. Maybe they feel the interview is taking too long. Or perhaps they’re facing an uncomfortable question.
Connect the dots. 39 For example, people may cross their arms when they’re cold. But, when you see a candidate crossing their arms, crossing their legs and balling their fists at the same time, prepare yourself for an aggressive(咄咄逼人的)answer.
Candidate experience greatly depends on an interviewer’s body language. Positive body language can make candidates relax and open up. Negative body language can lead to defensive and reserved reactions. 40
A.Spot the difference.
B.Ask detailed questions.
C.It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.
D.They don’t necessarily act the same way all the time.
E.However, understanding body language isn’t an exact science.
F.You can’t always tell what a specific gesture means on its own.
G.Be aware of mistakes to preserve a positive candidate experience.

Jack was a high school freshman, tall and thin, with a heart full of dreams. Jack’s father was a repairman who spent his days fixing cars, so his hands were always dirty. Jack’s father never said much, but his eyes always seemed to say, “I’m proud of you, son.” And Jack felt it in every nod. Their relationship was a quiet one, with an unspoken bond(纽带).
One day, Jack came home from school with a flyer(传单)in his hand. His eyes were bright with excitement as he showed it to his father. “Dad, there’s a school talent show next month, and I want to enter. I’ve been learning guitar for months,” Jack said to his father.
His father looked up from the engine he was working on. “You play the guitar ” he asked in surprise. Feeling a little embarrassed, Jack nodded, saying, “Yeah, I’ve been taking lessons. I think I’m ready.” His father cleaned his hands with a piece of cloth, looked at Jack and smiled, “I’ll be there, son. I wouldn’t miss it.” Through his father’s eyes, Jack knew he had his father’s support.
The days leading up to the talent show were more practice and anxiety for Jack. He would come home after school and lock himself in his room, the sound of his guitar echoing(回响)through the house. His father didn’t speak too much, but he would prepare delicious food and smiled at Jack whenever he saw his son. He would also quietly listen to the music from the living room. Although Jack felt tired or nervous sometimes, he felt pushed forward by unspoken love.
The day of the talent show arrived, and the school hall was filled with excitement. Jack’s hands were shaking as he prepared his guitar backstage. He looked out into the audience and found his father with a broad smile on his face.
