Lucas and his family live in Califomia. They love hiking and they have done it many times. But on June 1lth, something unusual happened. Lucas went on a three-hour hike alone and did not come back home. His family got very worried, especially when he didn't show up for Father's Day dinner. So they called the police and soon, firemen, park keepers and other local helpers started searching for him.
After 10 days, Lucas was still lost. This was bad news because the longer one is missing, the harder it is to find him. But something wonderful happened just in time! Lucas called out for help near the highway, and some people heard him! Then the helpers used drones(无人机)to find him and brought him to safety.
The police shared the happy news on the Internet. "There is nothing serious with Lucas. Thanks to the great teamwork of our firemen and park keepers, now he's with his family, "they said.
Being alone in the forest is very dangerous. This is especially true because Lucas didn't bring enough food with him. So how did he survive (生存)?“I just made sure I drank a lot of water every day. It really helped, "Lucas said.

Scientists at Stanford University have found a way to make the skin(皮肤) of living mice turn clear by rubbing(擦) a common yellow food dye(染料)called atrazine(柠檬黄)on the mouse's skin. The discovery could one day help doctors see inside human bodies without cutting them open.
The scientists mixed tartrazine with water to make the liquid. When they tested this mixture on very thin slices of chicken, the chicken began to turn clear. Next, the researchers decided to try the coloring on the skin of living mice. First they got the hair out of the way. Then, they rubbed the liquid on the skin of the mice. In just a few minutes, the skin of the mice became see-through. Using the liquid, the scientists were able to see inside a moue's brain. When the liquid was washed off, the skin returned to normal.
To understand how the new discovery works, it's helpful to think about how light travels through different materials. Light travels in a straight line, unless it runs into something. Then, it usually bends(弯曲). Glass is easy to see through because light only takes a slight bend when it goes through the glass. But skin isn't like glass. Skin is made of many different parts, like water, fat and so on. These different materials make it hard to see through skin. Tartrazine makes the watery parts of the skin more like the other areas. When the light mostly bends the same way, the skin becomes see-through.
Guosong Hong, one of the leaders of the research, says that if something similar could be made to work on humans, it could lead to exciting medical development. The scientists say more work needs to be done before a similar method can be used on humans. The dye only works on thin skin, and human skin is much thicker than the skin of mice.
31. What did the scientists find at Stanford University
A. A way to treat skin problems. B. A way to make the mice grow quickly.
C. A way to help doctors cut human bodies open. D. A way to make the skin of living mice become clear.
32. How was the result of the test according to paragraph2
A. Unexpected. B. Meaningless. C. Incorrect. D. Successful.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. How light travels through glass. B. The importance of tartrazine.
C. How tartrazine makes the skin see-through. D. The difference between skin and glass.
34. What is the value of the research at Stanford University
A. It's only useful for animal skin studies. B. It could improve medical study.
C. It helps understand light and materials better. D. It provides a way to make glass bend.
35. In which part of the newspaper can you find the text
A. Science. B. Sport. C. Culture. D. History.

Trees naturally pull carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)out of the air. They store this carbon in their wood. This is one reason why people suggest planting trees as a way of fighting climate(气候)change. But when tees die, the wood rots (腐烂) and the stored carbon dioxide is released back into the air.
In 2013, a group of researchers wanted to see if they could keep wood from breaking down by burying(掩埋) it underground. They thought it might help keep carbon dioxide out of the air. Their plan was to bury a large amount of wood underground in Quebec, Canada. They planned to leave the wood there for 9 years, and then dig it up to see how much it had rotted. But as they were digging the hole to bury the wood, the scientists discovered a piece of old wood. It turned out to be an Eastemn red cedar tree that was 3, 775 years old. And it hadn't rotted.
When the team tested the wood, they discovered that it had only lost about 5% of its carbon. It had held onto more than 95% of its carbon for almost 4, 000 years. The ancient wood was buried about 2 meters deep, and was covered with a layer of clay. The scientists think the clay protected the wood, keeping water and air from getting through. The clay also kept out insects and other creatures that might have helped break the wood down.
The discovery is important because it shows that wood vaulting (窖) can keep carbon out of the air for a long time. Wood vaulting is simple, and is a much cheaper way to store carbon than many other methods. The rescarchers believe that if it's done in the right way, wood vaulting could keep as much as 10 billion tons of carbon out of the air every year. That's about 20% of the greenhouse gases that are released into the air each year.
Clay soil is common around the world, but some scientists wonder if there might have been something special in the clay in Quebec. Experts say it's impotant to discover exactly what conditions are required to make wood vaulting successful. The researchers say wood vaulting can't solve climate change by itself. But it can be part of the solution.
36. What was the plan of the researchers in 2013
A. To keep wood to produce carbon dioxide. B. To use clay to prevent trees from rotting.
C. To dig up ancient wood to study its changes. D. To bury wood underground to test its rotting.
37. What does the underlined phrase “held onto” mean in paragraph 3
A. Lost. B. Kept. C. Shut. D. Cost.
38. What can we learn about wood vaulting in paragraph 4
A. It can work well if done correctly. B. It can keep carbon in the air for long.
C. It can prevent most greenhouse gases. D. It will cost more money to store carbon.
39. What does the success of wood vaulting depend on
A. The type of the wood. B. The insects around the wood.
C. The changes in climate. D. The conditions needed like clay.
40. What does the writer think of the influence of wood vaulting on climate change
A. Hopeful. B. Terrible. C. Accidental. D. Impossible.
