In Paris, there was a very famous modern magazine. One
day, this magazine published(发布) a strangely interesting quiz
question. The question was as follows: “If one day the
world-famous Louvre Museum were suddenly caught in a fire
and under the pretty bad situation, only one piece of art could
be rescued(救出), which one would you choose ”
After the news spread, tens of thousands of letters from readers poured into the magazine
office. Among the many replies, two stood out. One was from an experienced old professor who
was very famous in the artworld. For him, every piece of the collection in the Louvre Museum
was a perfect mix of history, culture and art. The other was a young man. He was full of life and
talent with his own unusual thoughts and love for art.
The old professor wrote several pages explaining the reasons for his choice of a particular(特
定的) piece. However, when the editors(编辑) saw the young man’s answer they were shocked
and touched by this simple yet intelligent answer. The young man’s answer was: choose the one
closest to the door. This answer has earned people’s praise. Every piece of the collection in the
Louvre is an unusual treasure in the world. In such a moment, instead of wasting time thinking
about difficult choices, it was better to take the chance and rescue just one piece if possible. When
a disaster(灾难) comes, there isn’t enough time to weigh the pros and cons of each choice, even if
each choice is very important. This idea of taking a chance and taking quick action is suitable for
both life and work.
23. What’s the readers’ attitude towards the question published by the magazine
A. Interested. B. Disappointed. C. Doubtful.
24. Which statement about the two outstanding(出众的) replies is TRUE
A. The professor suggested saving the greatest piece of art.
B. The young man’s reply was considered less intelligent.
C. Many people were touched by the young man’s answer.
25. What can we learn from the young man’s reply
A. Overthinking leads to better choices.
B. Quick action is key in bad situations.
C. Professional knowledge is of great help.
26. In which part of the magazine can we probably read this passage
A. Science Study. B. Fun World. C. Star Stories.
C
In English, the word “compatriot(老乡)” refers to a person
who comes from your own country. But did you know that in
Peru(秘鲁), local people call Chinese Peruvians(秘鲁人) their
“compatriots” For nearly 200 years, China and Peru have
developed a cultural relationship through immigration(移民) and
Cultural exchanges.
In 1849, the first Chinese immigrants arrived in Peru to work. Since then, Chinese culture has
mixed with Peruvian society. One example is Chifa, a special mix of Chinese and Peruvian dishes.
When Cantonese(广东的) immigrants came to Peru, they brought their own ways of cooking with
them. Putting together the Cantonese cooking style with local Peruvian food, Chifa has become an
important part of Peruvian food culture.
As of 2023, the number of Peruvians of Chinese descent(华裔) was over 3 million making up
around 10 percent of Peru’s population, China News Service reported. Showing the importance of
this community, Peruvians use the Spanish word for “compatriot” to refer to Chinese Peruvians.
At the same time, Peru’s influence brings active cultural exchanges to China. Known for
having the world’s largest alpaca(羊驼) population, Peru has found popularity in China. Its cute
alpaca toys were happily received at events. In a recent article, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte
Zegarra described the historical and cultural ties between China and Peru as “deep, covering
centuries of social, cultural and economic exchanges”.
27. What is Chifa
A. A Chinese dish cooked in a Cantonese style.
B. A traditional and well-known Peruvian dish.
C. A special mix of Chinese and Peruvian dishes.
28. What does the underline word “Its” refer to
A. Peru’s. B. China’s. C. South America’s.
29. What can we learn from the passage
A. The first Chinese immigrants arrived in Peru in 1948.
B. Peruvians of Chinese descent was over 3 million in 2023.
C. Peru’s influence brings negative cultural exchanges to China.
30. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage
A. To introduce the Chinese immigrants in Peru and local Peruvian food.
B. To tell the interesting stories of how alpaca toys became popular in China.
C. To show the deep historical and cultural exchanges between two countries.
