①Qinqiang Opera is one of the carliest forms of opera in China. It started from the ancient folk songs and dances of the Han people in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. According to historical records, the local opera dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty. Qinqiang Opera shows the daily life and feelings of ancient Chinese people. In 2006, Qinqiang Opera was added to national intangible heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录).
②Hou Yan, 48, the master of Qinqiang Opera started learning it from her mother when she was 4 years old. Training in the basic skills of Qinqiang Opera is very challenging. In 1985, Hou studied at an art school in Ningxia where teachers were very strict with students. Leg stretching (伸展), waist bending (弯曲) and somersaults (翻筋斗) were just some of her daily training routines. Her hard work paid off. Hou became a performer with a troupe (剧团) at the age of 16.
③But since 1993, the sweeping trend (趋势) of pop and Western music has hit Qinqiang Opera hard. The troupe was closed and Hou had no choice but to leave the opera stage she loved.
④After 1995, however, China has made great efforts to develop its traditional culture. Hou returned to the stage in 2000 and devoted herself to the opera form. “I knew I’d planted my roots on the opera stage,” said Hou. Now, Hou’s team presents hundreds of Qinqiang Opera performances every year in the towns and villages of Ningxia. The average age of Hou’s opera team is 30. In 2021, they staged about 150 school performances.
⑤“As we become more confident about our culture, more young people take traditional culture as a fashionable trend and become promoters of our own culture.” says Hou.

①Have you ever asked somebody a question but they didn’t reply because they were looking at their phones Or have you ever found that hours has passed since you planned to play a game just for 10 minutes People are using digital devices(设备) more than ever.
②On May 2nd, a center for health study, Fairplay, came up with an idea of A Screen-Free Week. They encourage families to turn off their screens and enjoy activities in real life for one day a week. Their proposal(提议) is based on the following facts.
③One study in 2020 found that young people in China aged between seven and sixteen spend about three hours and 48 minutes a day online. A survey in 2022 shows that people in Philippines spend more than 10 hours a day online, the highest in the world. What’s more, a research has proved that the human spine(脊柱) would bend a little for looking down at the phones for a long time.
④Should people have one screen-free day a week
⑤People who answer “Yes” think using digital devices too much is bad for health. Too much time online can influence sleep and shorten how long young people are able to focus on things. Instead, whether it’s playing sports or reading a book, a day offline would help people focus on their hobbies. And hobbies can make people feel more rested and relaxed.
⑥However, some disagree with the proposal. They think that rather than banning(禁止) digital devices for one day a week, people should be wise to how often they are online and how this makes them feel. After all, receiving a funny dog video from a friend can make them feel happy and less lonely. Therefore, there is no need to ban digital devices for one day.
⑦Surely, it’s better to take daily breaks in the real world and turn screens off during mealtimes and an hour or two before bed. But it’s unrealistic to spend a whole day offline. What if you find yourself in an emergency(紧急情况) and need to call someone for help All in all, using digital devices in a proper way is what really matters.
36. The writer mainly leads into the topic by________.
A. asking questions B. listing numbers C. telling a story D. making a survey
37. The reason “________” can be used to support(支持) Fairplay’s idea.
A. Digital devices can make people less lonely. B. People depend on digital devices to keep in touch.
C. Less time online means more time in the real world. D. More time online will cause less stress.
38. If we put the passage into four parts, which of the following is the best
A. ①;②③④;⑤⑥;⑦ B. ①;②③;④⑤⑥;⑦
C. ①;②;③④;⑤⑥⑦ D. ①;②;③;④⑤⑥⑦
39. The writer’s main purpose in writing the passage is to ________.
A. introduce a health center to readers B. ask people to stop using the digital devices
C. list some facts about using digital devices D. call on readers to use the digital devices properly

Have you ever heard of the “three Rs”— “Reduce, reuse, recycle (减量化、再利用、再循环)” They help cut down on the number of rubbish we throw away and reuse the waste in a proper way. But how can we do that Recently, this idea came to life in China in a special way at the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring scenic spot (鸣沙山月牙泉景区) in Gansu Province.
In order to protect the environment, the staff members in the scenic spot hold “Exchange (交换) Rubbish for Gifts” activity, which is widely liked by visitors. How to take part in the activity Visitors are encouraged to get rubbish bags from the workers, pick up the rubbish around the site, and then exchange the rubbish for small gifts such as toy camels and key chains for free. As it’s quite hot in the desert during daytime, the activity begins at 8:30 PM every day.
Another reason of holding the activity is to reduce the pressure of cleaners in the scenic spot. Wang Keshou, a member of the cleaners, feels happy seeing a lot of visitors helping pick up rubbish. “This activity has largely helped in my work. To provide a good environment for daily tourists, we had to do the cleaning till three o’clock at night before. But now the condition is much better,” he says.
Yang Hui is a visitor from Tianjin. She had a great time at the scenic spot with her children. Her children were excited to pick up rubbish for gifts. She thinks the activity is educational. She says, “It teaches children that __________”
In fact, more and more people come to realize the importance of environmental protection and are willing to take action. The “three Rs” project is not far away from us. Instead, it lies in our daily activities.

Recently, Chongqing has taken many measures to protect the environment in our daily life, such as the Blue Sky Movement, Clear Water Protection, and Noise Control. As middle school students, we should actively participate in these actions.
Firstly, let’s use public transportation more often to reduce air pollution. Secondly, avoid throwing rubbish and spitting everywhere; it will help keep our city clean. Moreover, do not walk on grass, and remember to save water to protect our water resources. Planting trees is also a good way to support the environment. Finally, be polite and avoid making noise in public places, so as not to disturb others.
Let’s work together to make our city a better place to live!
