When I arrived at his house the next Thursday, four or five men were already here. The doctor was standing in front of the fire with his watch in one hand and a piece of paper in the other.
“It’s half past seven now,” he said. “Shall we start dinner ”
“Where is the time traveler ” I asked. “Shouldn’t we wait for him We are guests in his house.”

He rang the bell to tell the housekeeper that we were ready to eat.
Not all the men present knew about the model of the time machine. Only the doctor and the psychologist knew. During dinner, we described the model to the other guests. I suggested, jokingly, that perhaps our host was late because he was traveling in time. The laughter suddenly changed to shock, however, when the door opened, and the time traveler stood there.

When Paul Shuttleworth bought himself a very expensive pair of eyeglasses for Christmas last year, it was a strange gift. The glasses didn’t improve his eyesight, weren’t particularly stylish and uncomfortably pressed down on his nose.
But the glasses are an important tool for him which have helped him talk and join in conversations in ways that he had never been able to before. These glasses transcribe the words someone is saying and show the text on his glasses.
Real-time captioning (配字幕) is not a totally new technology. People who are deaf or hard of hearing usually use apps to transcribe a conversation as they’re having it. But having to ping-pong between the person they’re talking with and their phone can be uncomfortable and tiring. However, having captions in front of your eyes can change the situation.
While live-captioning glasses could be an unbelievably powerful tool for millions of people, they are not a complete solution. For many people with hearing loss, understanding a friend in a crowded restaurant is a bad dream. Similarly, live-captioning software struggles to transcribe correct conversation in these spaces. Background noise remains a big problem that these glasses do not yet fully solve.
Many people who are deaf or hard of hearing are excited by this technology, but some see it as a danger to requests for sign language interpreters (手语翻译). Captions do not show a speaker’s feelings or voice changes; interpreters can give all background information.
57. Paul Shuttleworth bought a pair of expensive glasses to ______.
A. improve his eyesight B. make himself look handsome
C. prove he was very rich D. help himself in communication

B. what challenge living-captioning glasses face
C. how living-captioning glasses can work better
D. who would love to buy living-captioning glasses
60. We can infer from the passage that ______.
A. the new glasses may be dangerous to users

C. live-captioning glasses are important tools for everyone
D. technologies cannot completely take the place of humans

Beginning with less than 400 athletes from 13 ethnic groups, National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities(少数民族) of the People's Republic of China was first held in 1953 with only eight sports. It's one of China's oldest national games.
“The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China is about much more than competition and finishing top. It is a special chance to improve understandings among people from different ethnic groups,” an athlete said as it opened in Sanya, Hainan province.
The games took place in Nov 30, with almost 10,000 athletes from all over China gathering on the island to compete in 149 events under 18 sports and 170 show events. As a unique feature, a wonderful party was held on Tuesday to show their different traditions and cultures.
“The charm of the games is to bring people from different ethnic groups together during the competitions,” Ding said.
Unlike traditional sporting events, the games feature competitions rooted in traditional customs and the daily life of people from different ethnic groups in China. My favorite artist
My favorite artist is Audrey Hepburn, one of the Hollywood’s all-time greatest actresses.
Hepburn is considered by many people as a great actress. She had five Oscar nominations in all, and won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the film Roman Holiday.
I like Hepburn not only for her success in the film industry, but also for her efforts in charity work. She spent her last few years working closely with UNICEF so that she helped a great number of poor children in different parts of the world.
This is my favorite artist. If you know more about her, you will fall in love with her.
