When you are trying to make friends, you’ll probably meet someone who just doesn’t like you, though you’ve never done anything personally to him or her. What should you do Here’s some advice.
Gossip(流言蜚语) can make meeting new people difficult, especially when people hear something bad about you. It can stop someone from getting to know you at all. When you are in a situation like this, it feels awful. However, you should just be yourself instead of working hard to try to win them over. In time, they will see that the gossip about you is wrong. Or, they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by friending the people who deserve(值得) to have you in their life.
You’d think that your friend’s friends would also become your friends. But it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes people are happy with the friendship they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more. If someone chooses not to be friends with you just because you’re new to the group, it’s fine. There is nothing wrong about you or them.
An even more difficult situation is when someone has actually met you and just doesn’t like you. Every joke you make is taken the wrong way. Every time you try to do something nice, they find fault(找茬). As much as it hurts, accept that not everyone is going to be your friend. Don’t take it personally. These things could happen to everyone. There are just some people you’re not going to make friends with.
In friendship, it’s important to focus on the bright sides with people. If someone doesn’t want to be your friend, that’s okay. Don’t get mad at them because it’s their choice. Instead, give your time and attention to the people that are interested in hanging out with you.
24. What should you do when people choose to believe the gossip about you
A. Try to stop the spread of the gossip.
B. Tell the truth to other people.
C. Forget about it and move on.
25. What does the underlined sentence “Don’t take it personally.” in paragraph 4 mean
A. You shouldn’t share it with others.
B. You shouldn’t be too serious about it.
C. You shouldn’t deal with it in person.
26. Which of the following suggestions is NOT mentioned in paragraph 5
A. Spend time hanging out with those who like you.
B. Pay more attention to others’ advantages in friendship.
C. Show your anger to people who don’t want to be your friends.
27. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To tell people what to do when we’re not liked by others.
B. To tell people how to be popular with our friends.
C. To tell people how to avoid being hurt by gossip.

On February 4, Wang Yujia, 37, became the first Chinese musician to win the Grammy Award for the best classical instrumental solo(独奏奖) category.
Wang’s special position in the classical music world is marked by her excellent skills. In January 2023, Wang presented a three and a half hours’ show in New York, which was described by the New York Times as a “once-in-a-lifetime” musical event. Among the four piano concertos(协奏曲) Wang played, Piano Concerto No. 3, known as one of “the hardest concertos”, challenges musicians with all kinds of skills. Cyril Smith from Britain once said that it required the strength of shoveling(铲) 10 tons of coal to play the concerto. Moreover, the piece requires the musician to show a great number of feelings and themes including sadness, heroism and happiness.
Although there were all the great challenges, Wang didn’t find it a problem to complete the music. “There are big physical challenges on the piano, but it is even harder to use special skills to finish the work. That’s what is really fun.” Wang told China Daily.
The fashionable musician is also known for the bright colors, brave designs of her clothes and wearing 10 cm high heels on the show. This caused many reviews against her in the past, with some saying she wanted to attract people. But Wang is not afraid of being true to herself, saying to The Guardian, “If the music is beautiful and makes people happy, why not dress to fit It’s about power of music.”
She hopes people notice that below the surface is her great love for classical music. “The more I play a concerto, the more to be found. It’s like a long-term exploration,” Wang said.
28. Why did the New York Times use the word “once-in-a-lifetime” to describe Wang’s show
A. To tell us the show was the best of all times.
B. To tell us one could only have the show once in a lifetime.
C. To tell us Wang Yujia impressed people deeply with her show.
29. What can we infer from what Cyril Smith said
A. Piano Concerto No. 3 is the most beautiful concerto.
B. A musician needs great strength while playing the concerto.
C. Shoveling 10 tons of coal is important before playing the show.
30. Which of the following clothes is likely to be chosen for her next show
A. A bright green dress with high heels.
B. A dark blue suit with a pair of boots.
C. A black dress with a pair of white gloves.
31. Which of the following can best describe Wang Yujia
A. Friendly and confident. B. Honest and helpful. C. Powerful and fashionable.

Have you ever wished that an AI could write something for you Instead of spending hours typing away, you could simply input a few keywords and have articles written for you. Well, ChatGPT may make that dream a reality.
ChatGPT was developed by US company OpenAI. It is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create recipes, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions. According to a US survey of 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task. Some schools in the US do not allow students to use it. For example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the district’s networks and devices(设备).
The rule comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on tasks. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread incorrect information. It may have a bad influence on students. “It does not build thinking quality and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for studying and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle, the secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
However, not all educators say “no” to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are making rules on its use, for both students and teachers. Some teachers think that bans on AI software like ChatGPT are not wise. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” John, the biology professor, told the school newspaper of the university, “what we need to do is to change our way of learning, teaching and examinations”. That way, we can “have honesty while recognizing the use of the tool”.
