Every year, billions of kilograms of fresh produce are wasted and end up in landfills, producing harmful
greenhouse gases. Meanwhile, millions of people struggle with food safety. Evan Lutz, CEO and founder of Hungry Harvest, is passionate about correcting this social injustice through business. “My entire life I’ ve wanted to
become a social entrepreneur, not just starting a business that made money but also one that gave back to ensure
no food goes to waste and no one goes hungry,” he explains.
Founded in 2014, Hungry Harvest focuses on collecting and selling“ugly” produce— fruits and vegetables
that would otherwise be thrown away due to imperfections. The idea is simple but powerful: rescue this produce,
box it, and deliver it to customers weekly. To date, Hungry Harvest has recovered 300,000 pounds of produce and
donated 100,000 pounds to needy people. Lutz’ s inspiration came from witnessing poverty in Baltimore, and he aims to obviate food deserts there by providing affordable fresh produce.
In 2016, Lutz appeared on“Shark Tank,” seeking a $50,000 investment for a 5% share in his company. He
received $100,000 for 10% ownership, which he used for expansion purposes. Currently, Hungry Harvest operates in several locations, with goals to become the largest produce delivery service nationally and reduce food waste
significantly.
Inspired by the values from his parents, Lutz is deeply committed to giving back. “We sell produce with
purpose,” he says, emphasizing the company’ s social impact, hiring individuals seeking a second chance, and
revolutionizing the food industry. “We want to live a life of purpose. And we do that by simply selling fruits and
vegetables. We are happy to be fulfilling great mission and to be doing something that's really sustainable and that we think can really revolutionize the food industry.”
24. How did Evan Lutz address the food issue
A. By helping the needy families out of poverty.
B. By partnering with some local grocery stores.
C. By launching a firm selling imperfect produce.
D. By asking people not to produce greenhouse gases.

In order to stay ahead of industry rivals, Microsoft-backed OpenAI has rolled out its latest innovation— an AI model capable of generating minute-long videos based on text prompts(提示).
The model, named“Sora” after the Japanese word for“sky”, is currently available for red teaming. Red team
ing is a practice in which a team of experts, known as the red team, imitates real-world use to identify weaknesses in the AI system.
“Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion and accurate
details of the subject and background,” OpenAI said, adding that it can create multiple shots within a single video. In addition to generating videos from text prompts, Sora can also animate a still image.
The video generation model follows OpenAI’ s ChatGPT chatbot, which was released in late 2022 and created a hit around generative AI with its ability to compose emails, and write codes and poems.
Sora is still a work in progress, with the company acknowledging that the model may sometimes struggle
with spatial details in a prompt and encounter difficulties in following a specific camera trajector(相机轨迹).
The new tool is not yet publicly available, and OpenAI has disclosed limited information about its development process. The company, which has faced lawsuits(诉讼) from some authors and The New York Times over its use of copyrighted works to train ChatGPT, has not revealed the imagery and video sources used to train Sora.
OpenAI mentioned in a blog post that it is consulting with artists, policymakers and other stakeholders before releasing the new tool to the public. The company also said that it is developing tools to determine whether a video was generated by Sora.
Some other companies have their own text-to-video AI generators. Google is testing one called Lumiere, Meta has a model called Emu, and AI start-up Runway has already been building products to help filmmakers create
videos. But AI experts and analysts said the length and quality of the Sora videos went beyond what has been seen up to now.
28. What can Sora do according to the text
A. Generate complex video scenes.
B. Identify Japanese words correctly.
C. Track camera trajectory accurately.
D. Create still images from text prompts.

30. Why is OpenAI consult ng with artists, policymakers and others before releasing Sora
A. To make Sora more popular.
B. To avoid possible legal issues.
C. To show off its latest technology.
D. To ask for some financial support.

Most people are focused on the present. Fixing your flat tire is more pressing than figuring out if you should use an electric car. Living by the beach is a lot more fun than figuring out when your house will be underwater
because of sea level rise. This basic human relationship with time makes climate change a tricky problem.
Some institutions— including companies and governments that ultimately have the power to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions— can be even more concerned about the present than individuals are. Many companies are focused on quarterly earnings and growth. That helps drive short-term behavior such as investing more on
fossil fuels that makes long-term climate change worse. And there are also big incentives(动机) for political
leaders to think short-term. Many of them get elected every four or five years, so they tend to operate on a much
shorter time cycle than this problem, climate change, which is unfolding over decades.
Fortunately, our collective focus on the present also offers hints, psychologists say, about how to exploit our
focus on the present to inspire action. For example, there are ways to highlight the quick payoff for addressing climate change now. In the political area, that could mean that an official gets more votes because he or she supports
policies that reduce emissions. The promise of a benefit in the next election may be more appealing than the goal of protecting future generations, even if the latter has more moral weight.
But in some ways, our focus on the present is less and less of a problem as climate change makes itself more obvious today— in our daily lives. Everyone on the Earth is experiencing the effects of a hotter planet. That makes it a problem of the present, not of the future.
That immediacy is already showing up in how people view climate change, according to Anthony Leiserowitz, the director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. He has been leading an annual poll on the
topic for more than 15 years. As extreme weather is becoming more common, he says support for climate policies
is also growing, especially at the local level. And widespread public support for climate policies can push corporate leaders and politicians to act quickly.
32. What makes some companies focus on short-term behavior
英语一诊 第6页(共10页)
A. They are forced by political leaders.
B. They are eager to invest on fossil fuels. 4
C. They are interested in making more profits.

33. What can be inferred from paragraph 2 and 3
A. Emission reduction has been controlled.
B. Short-term gains block long-term action.
C. Political leaders prefer long-term strategies.
D. Psychologists care more about climate change.
34. What is the author's attitude towards the current situation of dealing with climate change
A. Optimistic.B. Pessimistic.C. Indifferent.D. Neutral.
35. What is the main idea of the text
A. People don't care about climate change due to present focus.
B. Climate change is a future problem that requires long-term planning.
C. Focus on the present makes climate change a difficult issue but can also inspire action.
D. Companies and governments should be more responsible for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Our house stood opposite the entrance of a popular hospital in the rcity. We lived downstairs, renting out the upstairs rooms to outpatients(门诊病人). One summer evening, as I prepared dinner, I heard a knock on the door while I was doing my chores. I opened the door to a truly awful-looking man with a terribly swollen face. “Good evening,” he said pleasantly. “I’ ve come to see if you' ve a room for just one night. I arrived this morning from the eastern shore for treatment and must wait for the morning bus.” He explained his fruitless search since noon, considering that his appearance discouraged potential hosts. “I know' my face looks terrible, but my doctor says with a few more treatments…”
A moment of hesitation passed before his next words convinced me:“I can sleep in this rocking chair on theporch. My bus leaves early.” We agreed to find him a bed, though he could rest on the porch in the beginning. Inside, I finished supper, then invited him to join us. “No, thank you,” he replied, holding up a brown paper bag.
After cleaning up, I joined him on the porch. It didn’ t take a long time to see that this old man had an oversized heart crowded into that tiny body. He explained that he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children, and her husband, who was permanently crippled(瘸的) from a back injury. He didn’ t tell it by way of complaint. In fact, he was grateful that no pain accompanied his disease, which was apparently a form of skin cancer.
That night, we set up a camp cot in the kids’ room for him. In the morning, the linens were neatly folded, and he was already outside. He declined breakfast. But before leaving for the bus, he asked hesitantly, “Could I please return for my next treatment I won't inconvenience you. I can sleep well in a chair.” He added, “Your children made me feel at home. Adults are bothered by my face, but children don't seem to mind.” I assured him he was always welcome here.

(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

Success Arises from Self-discipline
This simple yet powerful statement reveals the truth that only with self-discipline can one achieve success. Self-discipline enables us to resist distractions and focus on our goals steadily.
I once struggled with laziness. However, I made a study plan and stuck to it strictly. Day by day, my grades improved. It shows that self-discipline has been a key factor in my academic achievements.
As a senior three student, self-discipline matters/ weighs even more now. It can help me reach greater heights. In short, it is self-discipline that smoothes our path to success.
第二节 读后续写
Paragraph 1:
The old man returned for his next treatment as promised, bringing a big fish. As he stepped through the door, our children rushed to greet him with bright smiles. That evening, he sat with us, describing tales of giant fish and stormy seas, which impressed us deeply. His voice, though rough, carried a warmth that made us feel like we were sailing alongside him. The children, fascinated by his adventures, asked endless questions, and he patiently answered each one, making even the most ordinary evening filled with wonder.
Paragraph 2:
We realized that the journey with the old man was far from over, expecting his next visit. As his health slowly improved with each treatment, his spirits lifted, and so did ours. We saw hope return to his eyes. Finally, after what felt like many months of friendship, he arrived one day without his brown paper bag, smiling broadly. “I’ m cured,” he announced. “And my daughter’ s family is also back on their feet.” We hugged, knowing this was a new beginning for him. Though we would miss him, we were deeply satisfied knowing he was starting a new chapter in his life.

W: Oh, Jeremy, there you are. Have you had a chance to check out the problem I mentioned yesterday I think there's an issue with the heater in the conference room.
M: Ah ... not yet. I’ ve been setting up the new workspaces for the part-time workers we recently hired.
W:I'm planning to host our visiting clients in that room this afternoon, so I' ll change the location if it's still cold in there.
M: OK, I' ll get to the conference room as soon as I finish.
W: Great. And let me know if it can't be fixed by noon.

M: Are you going again soon
W: No, we’ re practicing our rock climbing for a little while to get into shape.
M: It’ s great for building strength! Me and Shelly do it at the climbing center just out of town. It's fun solving the puzzle of how to get up, and exciting too!
W: True that! My gym has a practice wall but we’ d like to do it in the wild one day!
M: I have a guide I can recommend. He’ ll take you to the best climbing spot and it has all the equipment too!
W: Great! Do you want to practice together
M: Sure, I'm going with Shelly at 6 pm tonight.
W: Excellent. I' ll meet you at the center then!

W: Well, when I was drivingin the mountain road,I took a wrong turning and gotcompletely lost.
M: Was that frightening
W: Yeah. While I was trying to decide how to get back to the main road, some heavy snow started coming down.
M:I was quite certain it wouldn't last long. It was March in Italy.
W:I wasn't worried at first, but I didn't have much petrol left so I switched off the engine.I tried to phone for help but couldn't get through.
M: How did you stay warm With the car heater

W: That meant having the engine on so I only used it a bit. Instead I got all of my jumpers and trousers from my suitcases and wore them all night. I was still frozen, though, and wished I had some coffee or tea with me.
M: So you spent the whole night inside the car
W: Yes. I managed to contact the emergency services finally. They knew my location from my phone signal. They’ d called to ask if I needed an ambulance and luckily I didn’ t need it, so they just cleared the snow and led me along the road back to the main road.
Text 10
M: Continuing our broadcast of public service announcements, Worldwide Helpers announces upcoming openings for a number of volunteer worker positions. All appli- cants must meet the following requirements.
First of all, applicants must be over 18 years of age. The company apologizes, but there can be no exceptions to this rule. Second, people interested in these positions may not have police records. A parking ticket and things like that are, of course, no problem. The employer will, of course, check with the police to confirm your clean record.
In addition, applicants must supply references from past or present employers or teach- ers along with their recent CV. These references must be relevant to the applicant’ s work habits. Remember, these are references from employers or teachers. A note from your dear old Mum won't do. Worldwide Helpers assures me that they will contact these references to confirm they are genuine.
Although all positions are volunteers, the employer will cover some of your expenses. For example, they will pay for transportation to and from the job site. Aside from that, the cost of phone calls is covered. But I'm sorry to say that you have to have dinner at your own home.
