Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, has made a comeback in recent years. The hanfu boom has seen an increase in available styles. To satisfy the different tastes of today’s youth, sellers are putting a fancy spin on this ancient costume.
Certain hanfu have a colorful reflective effect, as shiny decorative powders are added into the cloth. Modern material like chiffon (薄绸) is also widely used in hanfu, while paillettes (亮片) have been added to the surface of the dress.
Although most young fans of hanfu agree there’s no need to strictly follow the ancient rules, their opinions differ greatly. Qing Zhi, a university student, said hanfu is only a kind of clothing. She can match hanfu from different dynasties together, or with modern clothing, according to her own preferences. However, the form of each piece of hanfu she wears must be in accordance with history. Dafan, 24, sees it differently. She said clothing with fancy and exaggerated (夸张的) modern decorations can’t be seen as hanfu at all.
Meanwhile, fans disagree on how often one should wear the clothing. Qingzhi wears hanfu every day, while Wu Yue, another hanfu fan, said the clothing should not be worn daily.
In Wu’s opinion, hanfu should properly go together with modern living. For example, special occasions like festivals and weddings are good occasions for wearing hanfu. “Only with purposes can hanfu really have vitality(生 命力).” she said.
Han Hua, from Chongyang Research Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, thinks the evolution (演变) of hanfu natural. “I think people dressing in hanfu can have their own choices, whether sticking to the very traditional style, or whether having them modernized,” she said. “Both sides are OK, or there may even be a third side that introduces some modern elements, or some Western elements into hanfu. I’m totally fine with that. I only hope that there won’t be any arguments, and there will be respect toward each side.”

A librarian in Indonesia's Java island is lending books to children in exchange for trash to clean up the environment and get the kids to read more.
Each weekday Raden Roro Hendarti rides her three-wheeler with books stacked up at the back for children in Muntang village to exchange for plastic cups, bags and other waste that she carries back.
She told Reuters she was helping promote reading in the kids and make them aware of the environment. As soon as she shows up, little children, many accompanied by their mothers, surround her “Trash Library” and shout
for the books. They are all carrying trash bags and Raden's three-wheeler quickly fills up with them as the books fly out. She's happy the kids are going to spend less time on online games as a result.
“Let us build a culture of literacy from young age to lessen the harm of the online world,” Raden said. “We should also take care of our waste in order to fight climate change and to save the earth from trash,” Raden said. She collects about 100 kg of waste each week, which is then sorted out by her colleagues and sent for recycling or sold. She has a stock of 6,000 books to lend and wants to take the mobile service to neighboring areas as well.
Kevin Alamsyah, an 11-year-old book lover, searches for waste lying in the village. “When there is too much trash, our environment will become dirty and it's not healthy. That's why I look for trash to borrow a book.” he says.
Jiah Palupi, the head of the main public library in the area, said Raden's work strengthened their efforts in a novel way, which is different from what was known before, to battle online gaming addiction among the youth and promote reading.
The literacy rate for above- 15-year-olds in Indonesia is around 96 percent, but a September report by the World Bank warned that the COVID- 19 will leave more than 80% of 15-year-olds below the minimum reading proficiency (阅读水平) level identified by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Walls blanketed in moss (苔藓) are popping up in major cities, along with promises that they can reduce air pollution—but can a few square metres of plant matter really deal with the smog
A Berlin-based firm, Green City Solutions, believes so. Its moss walls, called the CityTree, are about 4 square metres in size. Armed with Wi-Fi sensors to monitor the health of moss, a City Tree functions autonomously and requires very little care. The wall collects rainwater, which is pumped through a built-in irrigation(灌溉)system to the plants, powered by solar energy. As a result, the firm says each CityTree is able to “eat” around 250 grams of particulate (颗粒) matter a day (nearly 90 kgs a year) and removes about 240 metric tons of CO2 every year. It also cools the surrounding air.
Aware that getting the surrounding air in contact with the moss wall is necessary for the CityTree to be
effective, the inventors make sure that the location of each installation ( 安装) is chosen carefully. Spots where pollution is heavy due to traffic and where air flow is limited are picked. The importance of this step is explained by the fact that the waste gas from a car generally goes up a few kilometres into the air.
But this doesn’t mean moss walls will necessarily protect people from pollution. In the Netherlands, eight walls installed in Amsterdam failed to reduce the concentration of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen dioxide (N02). Their report concluded that even doubling the number of moss walls would do little to improve their effectiveness.
The CityTree is not meant for parks or to take the place of street trees, but to add greenery to concrete-heavy spaces where planting is not a choice. It’s important to remember that street trees provide lots of other benefits, including shelter and habitat for urban wildlife, shade and cooling for people on the street, and reduction of urban heat islands.
26. What do we know about the CityTree
A. It can absorb some air pollutants. B. It can irrigate other street plants.
C. It produces electricity to cool water. D. It is aimed at saving water in cities.
27. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The importance of CityTree. B. The function of CityTree.
C. How to operate CityTree. D. Where to place CityTree.
28. Why is the example of Amsterdam mentioned in Paragraph 4
A. To show that CityTree can’t always work well.
B. To prove that CityTree can reduce air pollutants.
C. To emphasize the necessity of building moss walls.
D. To analyze the reasons for the failure of the program.
29. Which statement is NOT TRUE according to the passage
A. CityTree is capable of performing tasks automatically.
B. The inventors tend to install CityTree in spots with heavy pollution.
C. Green City Solutions believes some plant matter can deal with the smog.
D. The effectiveness of moss walls can be improved if the number of them is doubled.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards replacing street trees with moss walls
A. Ambiguous. B. Disapproving. C. Supportive. D. Cautious.
