In ancient China, bell and drum towers used to play the role of clocks in telling people the time. The bell sounded at dawn (黎明) and drum at dusk (黄昏). Today, bell and drum towers remain in some time-honored cities like Beijing and Xi’an. The bell and drum towers in Xi’an are symbols of the city's rich past and are among the largest and best-preserved (保存最完好的) of their kind in China.

It was built 4 years earlier than the Bell Tower. It is also one of the largest drum towers in China, with a height of 34 meters.

"Twelve years ago, I was a professional(职业的) dancer and black belt in taekwondo(跆拳道) when a disease went undiagnosed and destroyed my muscular system. I finally ended up on life support in intensive care with organ(器官) failure," Kaufman recalled. "I went from living this big life to not knowing how I was going to survive. Luckily, on my birthday in 2009, I received a new heart and was given a second chance at life!"
After volunteering in Los Angeles hospitals, Kaufman started the non-profit organization-Ava's Heart. She and her organization offered transplant patients services that were often not covered by insurance(保险), including food, gas, co-pays on medicines, and housing.
"What I found out was that if you didn't have post-transplant housing, you couldn't get listed and admitted (允许进入) into the hospital," Kaufman said. She said that for the nearly 110,000 people in the USA waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, it was not just a matter of adding your name to the list. Patients must be financially secure(经济保障的) and be able to afford transportation. What's more, they must find accommodations(住所) near their transplant hospital. Kaufman runs two housing locations, which allows the patients to remain close to their transplant hospital during the period of their aftercare, usually about three months at no cost.
Her organization also helps donor(捐献者) families, which she thinks makes the whole circle complete. "The donor is the whole story. Without the donor, there are no transplant centers, no transplant surgeons, no me. In my eyes, the donors are the heroes." Kaufman said.
So far, Ava's Heart has helped nearly 90 families with burial costs for their loved ones whose organs have saved countless lives. Kaufman also works closely with those who help build relationships with donor families and spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.

The Senior School Entrance Exams for Chinese Junior 3 students used to be mainly about academic (学术类的) subjects such as Chinese, Maths, English etc. But starting from 2022, there are also tests in music. This policy aims to encourage primary and secondary schools to provide more fine music classes because a new study shows that music education is really important in school education. Here are some ideas on how music plays an important role in school education.
Music helps with Math and Science. Students learn to count, and how to multiply and divide. Students also use Science to help them discover what sounds good together and what doesn’t. Besides, students also use Science to understand how music is produced by vibration (颤动) and why.
Students learn a lot about languages through music. Many songs are written in foreign languages. Students must learn to translate these foreign works to understand what they are singing about.
Students learn a huge amount of cooperation (协调) of body parts through music, so parts of the body can work better together. For example, students must use motor (肌肉运动的) skills in order to play an instrument. Singers and wind(管乐器) players must learn breath control and be in good shape to sing and play.
Students learn about Art through music. Some famous pieces of music were written about important pieces of art, and students learn about the artists and styles as they’re playing the music.
Music education also brings higher thinking. Students have to be aware (知道的) of what every other musician does at every time. In this way, it develops cooperation as well. They tend to develop more ability for learning.
