Growing up
Growing up is like a journey. I’ve learned a lot on the way. I’ve learned about the world in different ways. I like reading all types of books which can help me learn more about the world. Also, I’ve learned a lot from my parents and teachers. My parents taught me how to be a kind person. My teachers have helped me improved my knowledge. Besides, I have learned a lot through the Internet.
On the way of growing up, I have my problems. For example, I couldn’t achieve a balance between my hobbies and my schoolwork. Then my friends told me to make a study plan and choose hobbies according to my spare time. I solved the problem in this way.
I think when we face difficulties, we should never give up easily. I hope to become an engineer when I grow up. And I will try my best to achieve my dream. I hope my experiences in growing up can be helpful to you.九年级英语听力

As a mother of three young girls, Alison Cowan worried about her daughters growing up too fast. From asking for the latest toy to wanting to wear make-up, it seemed to Alison and her husband, Alan, that their children were never satisfied (满意的) with what they had.
The girls would ask for a toy, but would lose interest in it as soon as their friends had something new. Birthday parties were no longer just a few party games and blowing up balloons. All the parents seemed to hire professional performers and compete over who could give the most expensive party bag. At just seven years old, Amy and her friends were becoming more and more concerned with their appearance. It was a feeling that many parents would have.
However, few would dream of leaving a comfortable family life and a comfortable house to move their family 3,000 miles away to Africa in search of a simpler life. But, last June, Alison and her husband, Alan, moved with their daughters to Kampala in Uganda, to show them a different lifestyle.
For almost a year, the girls play in the red, dusty streets with local children and visit markets to buy fresh fish and vegetables for dinner. They have been able to play and use their imagination away from the distractions (分心) of the consumer﹣driven society that most children live in today. Now, instead of competing over who has won a computer game, the girls think about things like the frequent water shortages and electricity cuts in certain areas. "At times, we've been without water for five days. The girls always accept it, though. Their world before had been so small, but now they understand how other people less fortunate than them live. "
When their friends had something new, the girls would ________.

White Fang slowly got better and during this time, he did not let anyone near him. Scott wanted to kill him, because his teeth hurt Matt's hand. But Matt said, "Let's give him more time." Scott agreed.
A few days later, Scott tried to touch White Fang. He, too, got badly bitten. Instead of getting angry with the dog, however, he walked slowly toward White Fang, holding another piece of meat. When he was quite near the dog, he dropped the meat on the ground and walked away from it. White Fang looked at him and moved toward the meat, expecting Scott to hit him. When Scott did not move, White Fang moved closer to the meat. He still expected Scott to hit him, but Scott did not move. The meat was eaten up.
The next day, Scott held the meat in his hand when he offered it to White Fang. The dog would not take it, so Scott left it on the ground. The same thing happened for many days. Finally, White Fang was not afraid of Scott and took a piece of meat from his hand. Scott let White Fang do this several times. Then, he walked up to him without any meat in his hand. Sleep plays an important role in brain development. Children should get enough sleep.
56 A study says that because of being short of sleep, it is much harder for children to do something carefully. And also they become forgetful and easy to make mistakes. Another study shows that the right amount of night-time sleep is just as important for children's development as healthy eating and taking exercise.
57 In general, a younger child needs more sleep than an older one. Children at the age of 5—11 will need 10—12 hours of sleep a night while children at the age of more than 11 will need less hours.
In fact, many parents don't know how to help their children get enough sleep. 58
For children at the age of 5—11, a 30—40 minutes' routine (常规) before sleep is helpful.
59 In these activities, children relax and enjoy themselves a lot, and they will go to sleep more easily.
Children at the age of more than 11 may go to bed late in the evening, talking with friends online, playing games or watching TV. 60 And they will be tired during the day. So limit (限制) your children's use of the Internet, games and the TV before they go to bed. And don't allow them to have a computer or a TV set in their bedroom.
If not, you will feel sleepy in class.
Why does a child need much sleep
How many hours of sleep is enough for a child
So they will find it difficult to get up the next morning.
It includes a bath, reading a story together and so on.
Taking culture is as important as enough sleep for children.

A Virtual Visit to Stolen Art
Virtual (虚拟的) museums are nothing new these days.
Technology has allowed people to take trips to some of the world’s greatest museums on their couch. Now how about a virtual visit to stolen art In order to make public realize the culture heritage (遗产) protection, UNESCO is building the world’s first virtual museum of stolen cultural artifacts (文物). “Behind every stolen work lies a piece of history,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. “We want to place these works back in the spotlight so that more people can notice them.”
The virtual museum works as an educational tool. It will offer visitors 3D images of stolen artifacts. There will also be detailed information about their history. The project will be designed by Francis Kere. The architect won the famous Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2022.
When it is opened in 2025, visitors can see more than 600 pieces of artifacts in the museum. One of the most important items is a 3rd-century alabaster stone inscription. It was taken from Awwam temple in Yemen. Visitors will also be able to see an ivory relief(象牙浮雕) from the 7th century BC. The work of a lion attacking a man was stolen from, the Baghdad Museum. A green stone mask looted from the Maya site of Rio Azul will also be on display.
“These are objects that once existed(存在), but we don’t know where they are,” said Ernesto Ottone. He is UNESCO’s assistant director’ general for culture. “The museum is out of people’s imagination.” Azoulay said. “The presentation of each artwork is a deep dive (深入研究) into its universe, its culture, and the society that produced it,” she added.

By the 1700s umbrellas had beautiful handles(柄)m 85 of rare wood. Some umbrellas had empty handles. Knives, and even pens and paper were kept in these handles. Umbrellas were i 86 in the 1800s. Before that time most were made with whale bones. They weighed 10 pounds! By 1826, their w 87 was down to 1.5 pounds. Steel frames(框架)were first used in 1852.
