Ordinary (普通的) people also ordered takeout. Restaurant waiters would go out into the streets and yell (吆喝) out which dishes could be ordered that day. People could then place an order. Later, delivery (递送) workers would bring food to their homes. In the famous Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival (《清明上河图》), a takeout worker can be seen on a delivery with food in hand.

Work is helpful to health. Scientists find that the hard-working people live longer than the people with no jobs. Studies show that people without jobs are in poorer health than those with jobs.
Why is work good for health It is because work keeps people busy away from being sad. Studies show that people feel unhappy, worried and lonely when they have nothing to do. Instead, the happiest people are those busy ones. Many people feel happy when they are working hard because they love their work and they can get a lot from it. The oil paper umbrella is a traditional (传统的) Chinese handicraft (手工艺品). It has a history of over 1, 000 years in China. In early Tang Dynasty, it was brought to Japan and Korea, so it was called the “Tang Umbrella”. Later oil paper umbrellas were brought to some other countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, and each had its own style. However, as steel-ribbed (钢骨的) umbrellas came out in the last century, the hand-made oil paper umbrellas became less used in daily life. They were turned into handicrafts for decorating things.
Yuhang in Hangzhou is famous for making oil paper umbrellas for more than 230 years. They are mainly made of paper, bamboo, a coating (涂层) of Tung oil. They need to take more than 70 steps to make, including making bamboo ribs, pasting (粘贴) paper and choosing painting designs. It takes at least a week to make per umbrella. In 2008, these umbrellas were added to Intangible Cultural Heritage List (非物质文化遗产名录) of China.
A young man called Liu Weixue learned the traditional art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas from his grandfather. “I want to bring the art to life.” Liu said. He made the umbrellas better to meet the needs of young people. As the traditional paper was easy to break, he started to use a kind of thicker paper. In a test, his umbrellas were opened and closed for 1, 000 times without breaking. He used a kind of lighter bamboo to make the umbrellas weigh less.

In many countries around the world, May lst is a holiday which is called Labour Day or Workers’ Day. It is an interesting holiday that honours working people and their jobs. But do you know how it started
During the late 1880s, in many parts of the world, people worked for fourteen to sixteen hours a day in factories but made very little money. Later, in the United States and Canada, working people got together to set up unions (工会). The union leaders asked factory bosses for shorter working time and higher salaries (工资), but many of the bosses refused their ideas.
On May lst, 1886, men and women in the United States and Canada stopped working and went onto the streets. They walked through cities and towns to force bosses to let them work eight hours a day. In the city of Chicago, several people died in fighting against the police. Over the next few years, people in cities around the world stopped working on May 1st to honour workers everywhere. By the early twentieth century, the first of May became a national holiday in many countries.
However, in the United States and Canada, May lst is not a holiday. North Americans celebrate Labour Day on the first Monday in September.
