What is the best, I can paint pictures about the natural beauty. How amazing it is! When I feel tired, I can lie down and have a rest on the grassland.
In the future, paper books may be useless. There will be more new educational programmes, for example, those on the radio, on TV or on the Internet. (21-22八年级上·江苏连云港·期中)When I was in the seventh grade, I had problems behaving. My heart was in the right place, but I couldn’t always follow the rules. I played many tricks on my schoolmates. Once, I even pulled a girl’s hair on the school bus to get her attention. As a result, I was repeatedly sent to the office of the principal(校长).
Although I hated going there, I did not hate the principal, Mr. Ratcliff.
Mr. Ratcliff was a kind, elderly man. When he spanked(打屁股) me for putting some ants into a classmate’s pencil box, it didn’t hurt at all, but it did hurt my feelings. I thought so much of him and moments like that seemed to prove I was hopelessly bad.
When I got called to Mr. Ratcliff’s office for the sixth time, I had no idea what I had done. I felt disappointed as I walked down there. I went into his office, sat down, and looked at the floor. I want you to know how proud I am of you, and I just called you down to my office to give you a peppermint(薄荷糖).”
“Really ” I was surprised.

(22-23八年级上·江苏盐城·期中)Hello, my name is Jimmy. One day my eighth grade friend said that he was taking the school Geography Bee (比赛) written test the next day. Something in his tone told me that he was not looking forward to the bee. I could not understand! It sounded like a lot of fun to me.
All day, I found myself wishing I was in middle school, so I could take part in the geography bee. During my lunch break I walked up to my social studies teacher’s classroom and asked her if I could take part in the bee for middle school. But she did hesitate (犹豫) a bit because I was too young, just a primary school pupil. I told her that I really loved to learn about our earth, its rivers, mountains, all the human cultures on it. She was still not sure but finally said, “Yes.” I jumped at once!
That next morning I was going to be in the school bee as a participant and learn things I was really interested in. I was not nervous one bit, instead just very excited to be doing something I really loved. We had four written rounds—two on the United States and two on the world. I did surprisingly well and placed on the top ten, beating some of the strong seventh and eighth graders. I lost in the oral(口语) round the next day, but won my teacher’s attention. I came home and looked up the answers to the questions that I and other students lost on.
I placed second in my school the following year, but more importantly, I realized that I really loved geography and enjoyed the time I spent learning it. I may have lost that first bee, but I won the world; a love for that world; love to explore that world—one country, one mountain, one river, one landform at a time; and that is certainly the biggest win for me truly!
31.What can we learn about Jimmy’s eighth grade friend from the passage
A.He was very good at Geography at school.
B.He was not ready to take part in the Geography Bee.
C.He was very excited before the Geography Bee came.
D.He didn’t know about the country he was living in.
32.When the teacher agreed to let Jimmy take part in the Geography Bee, he was ________.
A.surprised B.nervous C.excited D.worried.
33.What did Jimmy think of his first geography bee
A.It made him more interested in geography.
B.He was very sorry to lose the geography bee.
C.He placed second in the speaking round the next day.
D.It made him get to know it was hard to learn geography well.

(22-23八年级上·江苏宿迁·期中)What do you think of future school life Here are four students’ dreams about school life.
The class starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. There are only four lessons a day and we have to go to school three days a week. My dream school doesn’t give us any homework to do. The teachers teach us by playing with us. We need to get out of the classroom or do some experiments (实验) in the lab to find answers.
My dream school is green and quiet. More trees and flowers should be planted and 80% of the school should be covered with green plants. We can play games, read books on the grassland. What is the best, I can paint pictures about the natural beauty. How amazing it is! When I feel tired, I can lie down and have a rest on the grassland.
In the future, paper books may be useless. There will be more new educational programmes, for example, those on the radio, on TV or on the Internet. Children who live in faraway villages don’t have to go to school when the weather is bad. They can study at home. They can lie on their bed or eat food while they are listening to the lessons.

“Yes. Now you can take that peppermint and go back to class.”
I carried the peppermint with me as if it was a gold coin. When I got into my classroom, I bragged(吹嘘) to my classmates about my turn around, excitedly. I wasn’t so bad after all.
Mr. Ratcliff was really kind. He made me realize that I was just a kid who had problems with behavior. He bought some peppermints and took the time to notice me when I got something—anything right.
