I am really enjoying my trip to the UK!Staying with Aunt Mary has been great fun.Yesterday, I learnt a lot about manners here. It was Aunt Mary's birthday yesterday so we went to a very famous restaurant in London.
Aunt Mary told me to wear smart clothes and shoes, because the restaurant had a“dresscode”. That means you can only eat there if you are wearing smart clothes! The restaurant is one of the most popular in London, so we had to queue(排队等候) for about ten minutes. British people do not mind standing in queues.
The menu was in French, not English! However, the waiter was very polite and friendly. He told me what the dishes were and helped me choose something. There were three different types of knives and forks to eat with. You must start with the knife and for k from the outside first. After the main course(主菜), we also enjoyed some dessert which is a kind of sweet food eaten at the end of a meal, such as pudding,ice-cream, pancakes and so on. When we finished, we put the knife and fork next to each other in the middle of the plate.
The food was very delicious. After the meal, Uncle John paid for the meal and left the waiter a“tip”. This is some extra money for good service.
