Before the discovery of DNA information in the 1980s, fingerprints(指纹) were the easiest way to solve serious crimes. It s believed that each one of us has our own fingerprints. But do you know that our fingerprints can show a lot about us
According to The Conversation, fingerprints can show lifestyle and environment, eating habits, possible medical problems and even the job of a person.
So how can we work all this out from just a simple fingerprint
Well, a fingerprint is formed when a finger touches a surface. Most fingerprints can t be seen to the eye and require a chemical development process in order to make them shown. Stuck between the raised lines of a fingerprint are things that can tell a story about who we are. Things like sweat, blood and food show a lot of information about us.
Besides, its use could be much wider. For example, it may be helpful in the future to doctors treating their patients. A fingerprint check may also tell a doctor whether a patient is properly having a medicine. In the treatment of some of the most serious illnesses, having proper medicine is important.
In the future, fingerprint science can be used by the police and help doctors keep us in the best possible health.
26.What can we learn from Paragraph 1
A. DNA can be used to solve serious crimes.
B. Fingerprints may show everything about us.
C. We didn t begin to use fingerprints until 1980s.

28.What can make a fingerprint tell a story about us
A. The chemical development. B. A finger touching a surface.
C. The fact that it can be seen clearly. D. The things stuck between raised lines.
29.According to the passage, doctors may know about a patient just through ________.
A. a physical exam B. a blood test
C. a fingerprint check D. a health check
30.What will the fingerprint s future use be like
A. It will be more widely used. B. It will not be properly used.
C. It will be better than DNA. D. It will not be very helpful.

When I looked at the mark on my Maths paper, my jaw (下巴) almost dropped to the ground: a big "65" in bright red ink. I had never received such a terrible mark before.
When I got home that afternoon, I lied to my dad. I told him I got 85 and that the report wouldn t come until the end of the month. Dad smiled. His daughter would never lie about her marks, so he didn t doubt my words.
A month later, Dad casually (随意地) asked me again about the report at the dinner table. He looked right into my eyes and asked for an answer. Having no choice, I told him that I had in fact got just 65 in my Maths final. I had lied because I didn t want to let him down.
For a moment, he just looked at me. I would have preferred a telling-off (斥责) than that silence. Finally, Dad said, in a hurt voice, "You have already let me down, with your lie. I am not disappointed at your Maths mark. No one can be perfect all the time. But I am very disappointed in you. If you can t be honest with your dad, who can you be honest with It s much easier to get a higher mark than rebuild someone else s trust in you."
Dad s words touched my heart. I could not forgive (原谅) myself for having hurt his feelings. I took out the report that I had been hiding for weeks, handed it to him and apologized (道歉) sincerely. I realized that my honesty is not only important to me, but to those that truly care about me.
In one of Shakespeare s plays a character says, "No legacy (遗产) is so rich as honesty." After the crisis between Dad and me, I began to understand those words.

四、任务型阅读-完成表格(本大题共1小题,共15.0分)
"Don t judge a book by its cover," the old saying goes. Unluckily, as a teenager, that is often exactly what you do to yourself. Dark thoughts about your physical appearance can hang over you all the time like a rain cloud. Do I look fat in these jeans Do others think I am too short These thoughts can have a negative(消极的) influence on people of any shape or size, both male and female, and it is important to guard against the causes behind them.
Standards of beauty in the media can have a big influence on what you think of your physical appearance. Teens who try to copy the looks of their favourite stars are fighting a losing battle—these standards are simply impossible for most of the population to live up to. They will only end up feeling worse about themselves.
Your friends also influence the way you view your physical appearance. If you have friends who are good-looking or have a great fashion sense, it can feel like you are living in their shadow. For children of digital age, social media makes this problem even worse. Your friends may post a "never ending" series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them. This has proved to have a negative effect on what you think of your physical appearance.
These external influences are always present, but there are certainly ways to deal with them. First of all, be careful not to follow popular beauty standards blindly. They are out of reach for 99% of us, so it is better to just forget about them.
Another tip is to remind yourself that you are unique(独一无二的). Keep in mind that your family and friends love you just the way you are. Talk about your feelings with someone you trust. Focusing on your strength also helps you build your confidence. Everyone has their own talents—you may be good at painting or playing the piano, so take pride in things you do well instead of worrying about things you cannot change.
You may often judge yourself by what is on the outside, not on the inside. However, like a book, your contents are much more important than your cover. If you can learn to see the good things about yourself—your individuality, your value to others, your achievements—you will soon begin to love yourself just the way you are.
Never judge a book by its cover

Ways to solve it ● (6) following popular beauty standards blindly. ●Remind yourself that you are unique. ● (7) that your family and friends love you just the way you are. ●Pay more attention to your strength to help you be (8) as well.
