In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn Of course, the answer is “No” here in China.
In America, there is a school trying something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others will not. At this school, students are able to find subjects they are interested in, and possibly even find the field (领域) they would like to go into after school. They are allowed to choose subjects like biology and math, learn a foreign language, or study skills like computer or car repair.
Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps students think about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills needed to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting. But others disagree. They think that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know what they will want to do in the future.

When we try something new, we often think that feeling uncomfortable means we’re in a situation that’s too hard to deal with. Embracing (拥抱) these feelings of stress and nervousness as a part of learning could help encourage personal growth, suggests a researcher.
In his research, over 2,100 people took part in some personal growth activities, such as taking improve (即兴表演) classes. In each activity, researchers told some people that their goal was to feel uncomfortable or nervous. They were told that feeling uncomfortable was a sign that the activity was working. Other people weren’t told to embrace discomfort; instead, they simply paid attention to learning something or how they were developing their skills.
Finally, the researchers found that the people who were told to try to feel uncomfortable were took part in their activities more actively and reported a greater sense of achievement compared to those who weren’t told to experience discomfort. For example, some improve students spent more time on stage.
“Growing is often uncomfortable. People always see the discomfort that comes with growth as a sign that there’s a problem. However, we should consider it as a sign of progress instead of avoiding it,” say the researchers.
If we learn to be comfortable with discomfort, we will grow stronger and make progress. The first step is to view discomfort differently. Think of discomfort as a sign that we are improving our lives and experiencing growth. Then take action instead of thinking. Rather than think about how difficult or uncomfortable a task might be, just do it. Whatever we do, try to go a little further than that point when we start feeling like we want to give up or when we are uncomfortable and want to take a break: run one more minute or kilometer than last time or write one more paragraph.
No pain, no gain. It’s true! When we push ourselves to grow, we will experience discomfort, but it will be worth it.
35.What can we learn from the research mentioned in the passage
A.Experiencing little discomfort leads to great success. B.The attitude towards discomfort influences personal growth.
C.The feeling of discomfort encourages people to try new things. D.Paying attention to what you’re learning weakens your discomfort.
36.What’s Paragraph 5 mainly about
A.The ways to deal with discomfort. B.The advantages of embracing discomfort.
C.The importance of running one more minute. D.The reasons to think of discomfort differently
37.Which word is close to the underlined word “view”
A.Find out B.Talk about C.Lead to D.Think of
38.Which of the following does the writer probably support
A.I try to speak in public although it makes me nervous. B.I start swimming when I find running is a bit challenging.
C.I keep quiet in class because I’m afraid to answer questions. D.I don’t like singing before strangers, so I always sing to myself.

四、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成句子。
The other day, my friends and I talked about the rules we have in school. At our school, we have to wear uniforms every day. The problem is that all my classmates think the uniforms are ugly. We think young people should look smart and we would like to wear our own clothes. Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate (集中注意力) more on our clothes than our studies. We disagree. We would feel more comfortable and that is good for studying. If we can’t do that, we should be allowed to design our own uniforms. That would be a good way to keep both teachers and students happy.
It’s also probably a good idea for parents to allow teenagers to study in groups during the evening. I know we get noisy sometimes, but we learn a lot from each other. We also think that vacations should be longer. At present they’ re too short. Longer vacations would give us time to do things like volunteering. Last summer I had an opportunity to volunteer at the local hospital, but I couldn’t because I had to go back to school. It would be a good experience for me because I want to be a doctor when I’m older.
40.At our school, we have to every day.
41.All my classmates think are ugly.
42.Our teachers believe that if we wear , we wouldn’t concentrate more on studies than clothes.

七、书面表达
I Want to Be a Poet
My dream is to be a poet. Because poems can express our feelings and thoughts. When you read them, you can feel the glad or sad feelings of the poets. I’ve learned a lot of poems in the class. Of all the poets, I like Chinese poet Li Bai best. I think his poems are great. Though many students like songs better than poetry. I’d like to be a poet one day. I will work hard and read poems as many as possible. I believe my dream will come true.
