Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.
Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its pitches (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.
There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don't need any special equipment except a good pair of trainers; and you don't have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements (代替物) for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it's free.
21.What do we know about golf from the passage
A.It is popular in Portugal and Spain.
B.It causes water shortages around the world.
C.It needs water and energy to keep its courses in good condition.
D.It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes.
22.The author uses power walking as an example mainly because ________.
A.it is free
B.it benefits our health
C.it gets people close to the nature
D.it is resource-saving
23.Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of
A.Working out in a gym.
B.Cycling in a mountain.
C.Swimming in a sports centre.
D.Playing golf in the countryside.

Fish genetically engineered to glow blue, green, or red under blacklight have been a big hit among aquarium lovers for years. But the fluorescent (发荧光的) pet is not restricted to glass displays anymore. The red-and-green-glowing versions, more vivid than normal zebrafish even in natural light, have escaped fish farms in southeastern Brazil and are multiplying (繁殖) in creeks in the Atlantic Forest, a new study shows. It is a rare example of a transgenic animal accidentally becoming established in nature, and a concern for biologists, who worry the transgenic fish could threaten the local fauna (动物群) in one of the most bio-diverse spots on the planet.
In the 2000s, companies saw the potential of the fish as pets. Trademarked as Glofish, they became the world’s first genetically engineered species to be commercially available. Now, they are one of the first to escape and thrive in nature. Early on, environmentalists worried about the possibility, and Glofish sales were banned in some U. S. states such as California and several countries-including Brazil. In 2014, a single Glofish was spotted in canals of Florida. But it had not multiplied, probably because native predators such as the eastern mosquitofish and the largemouth bass ate the intruder, said the biologist who spotted the fish, Quenton Tuckett. Unlike Florida, Glofish thrived in the Brazilian creeks. In 2017 he and colleagues began to survey five creeks in three cities, finding transgenic zebrafish in all of them.
The Glofish are reproducing all year round, with a peak during the rainy season — just as native zebrafish do in Asia. But the transgenic fish seem to achieve sexual maturity earlier than their forebears, which allows them to reproduce more and spread faster. The invaders are also eating well: a diversified diet of native insects, algae, and zooplankton.
Despite Brazil’s ban on sales of the fish, stores all over the country sell them as pets. They may soon colonize other parts of the country. Tuckett says it should be “a wake-up call”. For now, the glowing fish “could be considered little weeds growing up out of the concrete”, Tuckett says, but points out that even little weeds can grow to cause a lot of damage.
24.What is the concern of the biologists
A.The ecological impacts are unpredictable.
B.The transgenic fish could do harm to the local animals.
C.The transgenic fish accidentally became established in nature.
D.The transgenic fish are more vivid than normal zebrafish in natural light.
25.According to paragraph 2, what can be inferred about Glofish
A.They were kept as pets before the 2000s.
B.They were prohibited from sales throughout the U. S.
C.They didn’t thrive in Florida probably due to the local enemies.
D.They were found in all of the Brazilian creeks in 2017.
26.What does the underlined phrase “The invaders” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.The Glofish. B.The native zebrafish.
C.The largemouth bass. D.The eastern mosquitofish.
27.What is Tuckett’s attitude towards Glofish
A.Indifferent. B.Ambiguous.
C.Cautious. D.Supportive.
C
From a young age, I would climb up and down for fun. My first introduction to gymnastics was through my older sister Arielle, who used to be a gymnast. She taught me how to do my first cartwheel(侧手翻). By the end of the week, I was teaching myself one-armed cartwheels and my sister said to my mom, “You need to put this kid in gymnastics.”
At about age 9, I realized that I wanted to pursue the Olympic path. I was used to the public eye, but the Olympic stage was different. The Olympics teach you to act in a certain way and to be disciplined(守纪律的). They teach you to be a mature young lady, and you grow up fast.
When I started this journey, I never knew what it actually took to get to the Olympics. I thought it was: Training. I had to quit a normal kind of life for gymnastics, but I didn’t mind. I moved from Virginia Beach to Iowa to get a different coach. I sacrificed my privacy. Gymnastics was what I was going to eat, breathe and sleep with. It takes a lot to be an Olympic athlete. You may have a talent, but the people who work harder than you will overtake you.
Throughout my career, a lot of people have doubted me. When someone tells you that you can’ do it, especially when there are many people, you start to believe it. It took me years to figure out how great I was at gymnastics. Fear held me back when I hurt my leg in 2011, but I told myself that I had a talent and that I was going to use it. I went to the world championships and got a team gold.
I won three gold medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and helped Team USA win gold at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships. My mom used to say, “Inspire a generation.” It’s one thing when you say it, but I never thought that I would be a pioneer and that people would draw inspiration from my story.
28.Why did the author’ sister suggest putting her in gymnastics
A.Because she was talented in gymnastics.
B.Because she needed to decide her future career.
C.Because she was too noisy to stay at home.
D.Because she had fallen in love with gymnastics.
29.What can we learn about the author from Paragraph 3
A.She left school at an early age.
B.She devoted great efforts to training.
C.She thought talent was necessary.
D.She dreamed of being famous one day.
30.What did the author learn from others’ doubt
A.Failures were unavoidable.
B.She had to improve her skills.
C.She should be confident in herself.
D.What others thought was not important.
31.What does the author mainly talk about in this passage
A.Her childhood experiences.
B.Her road to success.
C.Her passion for the Olympics.
D.Her performance in gymnastics.

According to a study done by University of Michigan researchers, shopping to relieve stress was up to 40 times more effective at giving people a sense of control and shoppers were three times less sad compared to those who only browsed for items.
More than half of the 1,000 consumers participating in the survey said they have impulsively (冲动地) shopped to deal with feelings of stress, anxiety or depression. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they’ve maxed out a credit card in the past year. Millennials, 68 percent, responded by saying they have stress spent in the past, compared with 53 percent of Gen Xers and only 26 percent of Baby Boomers.
By gender, 48 percent of men and 31 percent of women who have stress spent said they had purchased alcohol when stressed. 82 percent of women stress spent on clothing compared to 52 percent of men. Women also lead stress spending for jewelry, 42 percent, compared to 22 percent for men, with men stress spending more for electronics, 44 percent versus 30 percent for women.
In fact, shopping to reduce stress can actually help you live a healthier life by making sure that your blood pressure is lowered. Shopping to relieve stress is also known as retail therapy (疗法) as a form of regulating stress. The survey found that 82 percent had only positive feelings about their purchases and that the positive mood boost that followed those purchases was long-lasting.
However, the side effect of retail therapy, for many, can start out as a relatively harmless mood booster but could possibly grow into an impulse that uses up money and cause conflict, thereby adding a significant amount of stress to a person’s life.
32.What can we know about Millennials according to the survey
A.They tend to max out their credit cards.
B.They bear more stress than Baby Boomers.
C.They are more likely to purchase to reduce anxiety.
D.They have an advantage over Gen Xers in managing stress.
33.Which of the following has topped the list when people have stress spent
A.Alcohol. B.Clothing.
C.Jewelry. D.Electronics.
34.What can be learned about retail therapy dealing with stress
A.It is harmless. B.It is highly recommended.
C.It promotes personal relationship. D.It can serve as a temporary solution.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Can Shopping Relieve Stress B.Where is Your Money Going
C.Shopping Habits across Generations D.A New Cure for Depression

Parents sometimes struggle to find a balance between encouraging an adolescent to achieve without pushing too hard. Pushing a child too much could feed perfectionist tendencies, which can have a serious effect on mental health. Perfectionists are motivated by a fear of failure and reach for high goals in an effort to prove their worth to others. 36 . This tendency can be found at the root of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders.
Parents can help temper (缓和) perfectionist tendencies by bringing “perfectionist thinking” out into the open, helping an adolescent regain perspective and learn to accept their limitations. Here are some ways parents can start that important conversation at home:
Build awareness: Perfectionist thinking takes root in childhood. Evidence suggests just raising awareness about perfectionism — what it looks like in action and its potential costs — can help to lessen its hold. 37 . As in not everything has to be pursued at the highest level all the time.
Normalize suffering: Young people need to hear that it is typical and normal to feel suffering from time to time, and that negative emotions are a normal part of life and not a sign of personal fault. Saying “That sounds really hard” or “ 38 .” can help to normalize them and allow a child to feel less alone.
Encourage self-compassion (自我同情) and self-forgiveness: Practicing self-compassion can protect against perfectionist tendencies. Help your child find a go-to line they can say to themselves to drown out the critical voice in their heads, as in: 39 . Forgiving yourself for being human doesn’t mean ignoring failures. It means widening your perspective, aiming to do better but without suffering additional and unhelpful criticism.
40 : A large part of the harm of perfectionism comes from our reactions to it. When experiencing a personal setback, a parent can model healthy coping out loud, as in, “It’s time to stop beating myself up. Everyone makes mistakes.” Modeling for your children how you cope with mistakes and failures is critical to fostering healthy coping skills in them.
A.Stop perfectionism
B.Model healthy coping
C.I can understand how you feel
D.At its worst, perfectionism acts as a trap
E.That’s okay, Jamie, you’re doing your best
F.Mounting evidence shows how destructive perfectionism can be
G.One way to do this is to introduce the concept of “good enough”

Last year, 28-year-old Jane Bell moved to a suburb of Philadelphia for her newly found job and rent a house with a big yard in a village.
Jane had the habit of rising early for exercise. One cold morning, she was jogging through the nearby park when she spotted a weak husky lying by the path, seeming to have been deserted. She approached and checked it, only to find one of the dog’s legs severely broken. The pitiful dog looked at her with its sad blue eyes as if asking her for help. Blaming the dog’s previous owner for the selfish and irresponsible action, Jane, without hesitation, bent down and carried the dog home. Then she drove the dog to an animal clinic for a checkup and treatment, where a doctor told Jane it would take about 3 months before the dog got well.
Jane returned home with the dog, which she called Kobe. She made a comfortable den (窝) in the front yard and took great trouble to look after it. With time going on, Kobe gradually recovered and was able to get around with her. Every morning, Jane would take Kobe for a run. Every evening Jane came home from work, Kobe would welcome her, excitedly wagging (摇) its tail at her. Kobe kept Jane company and became her inseparable and loyal friend.
Jane’s furry companion was usually gentle and quiet. But one dawn Jane was woken up by Kobe’s loud barking and the constant noise of its pawing (用爪子抓) at the door. The moment she opened the door, Kobe pulled on her clothes with its mouth, attempting to lead her away from the yard. Initially dismissing it as typical dog behavior, Jane patted Kobe on the head to quiet it, saying firmly, “No, Kobe! Good boy, ca lm down!” However, the dog didn’t stop behaving strangely. It arched its back, its nose moving against a piece of ground in the yard anxiously. Jane was surprised and confused.

由第二段中“Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects.”(如你所知,高尔夫不仅消耗大片乡村地区,而且消耗大量水。此外,还使用各种化学药品和大量能量来保持其路线处于良好状态。这会造成重大的环境影响。)可知,高尔夫球场需要水和电来保持球场状态良好。故选C项。
22.推理判断题。根据文中第三段“There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse.”(有许多环保运动。
根据第三段中“Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of trainers; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit.”(健步走是你现在可以使用的其中之一。 由此判断出,B项“Cycling in a mountain.”

根据第二段中的“In 2014, a single Glofish was spotted in canals of Florida. But it had not multiplied, probably because native predators such as the eastern mosquitofish and the largemouth bass ate the intruder(2014年,在佛罗里达州的运河里发现了一条发光鱼。但它并没有繁殖,可能是因为东部食蚊鱼和大口黑鲈等本土捕食者吃了这种入侵者)”可知,发光鱼没在佛罗里达繁衍的原因很可能是因为它被当地的捕食者吃掉了。故选C。
26.词义猜测题。根据上文“The Glofish are reproducing all year round, with a peak during the rainy season — just as native zebrafish do in Asia. But the transgenic fish seem to achieve sexual maturity earlier than their forebears, which allows them to reproduce more and spread faster. (发光鱼全年都在繁殖,雨季是繁殖的高峰期——就像亚洲本地的斑马鱼一样。但转基因鱼似乎比它们的祖先更早达到性成熟,这使它们能够繁殖更多,传播更快)”以及划线词所在句子“The invaders are also eating well…(入侵者吃得也很好)”中的 also一词可知,the invaders指的是the transgenic fish,即斑马鱼通过基因改造而来的发光鱼Glofish。故选A。
根据最后一段中的“Tuckett says it should be ‘a wake-up call’. For now, the glowing fish ‘could be considered little weeds growing up out of the concrete’ Tuckett says, but points out that even little weeds can grow to cause a lot of damage.(Tuckett说,这应该是一个‘警钟’。Tuckett说,目前,发光鱼‘可以被视为从混凝土中生长出来的小杂草’,但他指出,即使是小杂草也会造成很大的损害)”可知,Tuckett认为虽然目前这种鱼的影响无需过多担忧,但是如果放任不管也可能会造成很大的破坏,所以持谨慎的态度。故选C。

Then Kobe began to dig the ground with its paws. Before long, it dug a sizable hole in the yard. As the hole expanded, an old gas pipe appeared at the bottom, which concerned her. Given Kobe’s normally well-behaved nature, Jane suddenly realized that its unusual actions might mean a warning of danger. “Dogs usually have sharp noses and can accurately sense the presence of gas while we humans can’t. Something must have gone wrong with the pipe,” Jane thought to herself, nervous and scared. The next minute, she raced into the house and immediately contacted the local gas management department.
Soon gas workers came. Without delay, they got down to detection. Sure enough, there was gas leaking from the aging pipe. It was so dangerous that all the villagers were urged to leave right away. Meanwhile, repair operations were conducted. The workers worked tirelessly for hours to replace the broken pipe. When everything returned to normal, the villagers couldn’t thank Kobe enough. But for its timely warning, an explosion could have easily happened and left the whole village in ruins. As the saying goes, one good deed deserves another. Jane’s kindness brought safety to herself and even the whole neighborhood.
