In 1978, Ang Lee had applied to study film at the University of Illinois, which his father was against as a large number of people would apply for the few roles. However, Ang Lee insisted (坚持) on flying to the U.S., which had a bad effect on his relationship with his father.
It was a few years later when he graduated that he understood why his father tried to stop him. It was nearly impossible for a Chinese newcomer to make it big in the American film industry. The next six years was full of struggles for him. All he would do was support the film workers with the equipment, help the editor or take on any other miscellaneous(混杂的) duty. Moreover, what hurt him the most was shopping a screenplay at more than 30 different production companies, only to get turned down each time. He turned 30 that year.
In Chinese, they say,“At 30, one stands firm.” However, he had no idea what to do. The household was run on his wife’s income. Ang Lee felt guilty as this kind of life was shameful for any man. When nothing worked, he decided to face reality and signed up for a computer course. He believed that only knowledge of computer science could make him ready for work now. His wife noticed a timetable in his bag, though she didn’t comment on it. The next morning right before she went to work, she turned back and said, “Ang, don’t forget your dream.” It was this one sentence that brought his dream back to life.
He slowly began to get funding for his screenplay and made his films. He has been nominated(提名) for 9 Academy Awards. His film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and he also won the Best Director award for the films “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi”.

We’ve all heard the stories of an actor’s struggle before a career breakthrough: living a hard life, working part-time, being a couch potato before getting that major role. Shelby, the star of “A Dog’s Way Home”, has a hard-luck tale that could top them all. Before her big break, she was living in a landfill, rooting through garbage for her next meal.
Shelby’s big break came in April 2017, when animal-control officer Megan Buhler was driving in Cheatham County, Tennessee. Out on an unrelated call, Buhler spotted and approached what she recalled was a noticeably scared puppy emerging from the dump. “I knelt down and just said, ‘Oh, come here, baby,’” said Buhler. “She was so scared, but she came right up to me, and I was able to put her in my truck.” The pair headed to the county’s animal shelter, where the staff began calling the new resident Baby Girl.
Buhler and others didn’t know that 3,200 kilometers away, Hollywood was looking for a dog to play Bella in a film written by Cathryn Michon. The find-a-Bella job went to freelance trainer Teresa Ann Miller. Her mission was to search shelters nationwide for a dog that could play Bella. One day, Miller spotted Baby Girl’s adoption photo. “Honestly, it was a really good picture, and she was flat-out smiling,” Miller said. Then she met Baby Girl, and assessed her personality and ability to respond to simple commands. After assessment, she adopted Baby Girl from the shelter, renamed her Shelby and took her to California for training. Miller and Shelby trained for just over three months before filming began. Then they were together each day on the set.
Most of the film’s reviews have praised Shelby’s performance. Variety made the comment “an amazing dog, perfect performance!”
Shelby has come a long way from the dump. But Buhler said she saw Shelby recently had needed only a second to compare the movie star with the dog she found from piles of trash.“She’s exactly the same,” Buhler said.

C.She’s really excited to see the dog she helped live such a happy life.

Emily Durham, 26 years old, is one of many social-media career influencers who have risen to fame by sharing tips on work in a casual, accessible tone. Regardless of their locations, these content creators often adopt a similar style: Filming themselves talking to the camera about topics such as how to stand out in the interviews, negotiate salaries, handle performance reviews and communicate with managers.
While career coaching is not a new industry, experts say social media provides a new way to deliver this information that’s particularly appealing to young workers right now. Mary Chayko, professor at Rutgers University, says seeking advice on social media feels more convenient and efficient for young people.
Even if influencers lack their own extended professional tenure (终身职位), and often don’t hold coaching certificates, experts say they have qualities that make followers trust them. Their transparency (透明性) makes them feel largely accessible and easy-going. Their casual style appeals to audiences, because it offers a glimpse into who they are as people. “Not being too polished in the way that you present yourself is another indicator that you are somebody who can be trusted,” Chayko says.
While social media advice can be motivating, it has its limitations. Videos on Instagram and TikTok tend to be fairly broad, relying on generalizations about culture and human behavior that may not apply to a person’s individual situation. Moreover, many of the decision-makers in the workforce belong to older generations, meaning that young workers’ ability to understand the values of these leaders will also be important. Relying solely on younger coaches could narrow their knowledge scope(范围).
Yet for young workers, following career influencers may be as much enterprising as it is practical. Influencers demonstrate an idealized work persona(职场人士形象), conveying a sense of control and confidence that many people long for in their professional lives.
32.Why is Emily Durham mentioned in the beginning
A.To present a fact.
B.To describe a scene.
C.To explain a concept.
D.To introduce the topic.
33.What does Mary Chayko tell us in Paragraph 2
A.The young are eager for new careers.
B.The young enjoy spreading information.
C.The young tend to ask for advice online.
D.The young are addicted to social media.
34.Why can career influencers appeal to their followers
A.They possess some coaching certificates.
B.They own extended professional tenure.
C.They give the public a polished appearance.
D.They try to be seemingly worthy of trust.
35.What does Paragraph 4 focus on concerning social media career advice
A.Its benefits. B.Its shortcomings.
C.Its features. D.Its functions.

Art is all around us. It can be found everywhere, including fancy galleries and people’s living rooms. So, why is art important
It promotes expression and creativity. As humans, we’re naturally drawn to art as a form of expression and communication. 36 It’s a way for them to express themselves before they’re able to speak. When we take the time to dive into art created in the past, we can learn about other generations and eras. We can study art to find out what those before us were facing and how they overcame it. 39
In therapy(心理治疗) settings, art also provides an opportunity for digging deeper and expressing emotions that are difficult to discuss. 40 In one important study, children between 6 and 12 were asked to draw a house as a distraction after thinking about something upsetting. This group were able to improve their mood when compared with children who were instructed to draw the negative event or simply copy another drawing.
A.These are its major benefits.
B.Children love to draw, sing, and dance.
C.Art and human history go hand in hand.
D.How does it have an impact on our life
E.It helps all of us develop necessary soft skills.

I had a dream from primary school: to work in television. My parents owned a little grocery store, so we were definitely not fancy people. Thankfully, my dad had raised me to have a lot of confidence. He often said, “You can do anything you want to do.” My dad was particularly supportive. He was my steady rock—always there for me.
With his help and encouragement, I was admitted to the radio and television arts program at Ryerson University in Toronto. I really loved the program and worked hard and I was named the most outstanding graduate. I felt like I was already living my dream. I began to think that maybe I could apply for an internship in CBC or CTV.
Luckily, Global Television had just started broadcasting in Canada that year. I thought to myself: I’m new and they’re new, so if I’m going to get to know one person at Global, it might as well be the president. I was scared, but I knew deep down inside that this was what I wanted. When I called my dad and told him my plan, he said, “Good, Faye. That’s exactly what you should do.”
With my heart just about pounding out of my body, I called up the president of Global Television. Suddenly Mr. Slaight was on the phone. “I’ve heard that your studio facilities are amazing. I could come at eleven o’clock on Monday or eleven o’clock on Sunday for a tour. What would suit you better ” I caught him totally off guard. He stuttered a bit, and then picked a day. When I hung up, I was scared but excited.
I arrived at the studio on the appointed day. When Mr. Slaight took me around, he looked at me and said,“What do you want ” He sounded furious(暴怒的) but curious. “All I want is a chance to have an audition. I just want you to know my face. That’s all I’m asking.”
I didn’t know whether I’d ever hear from him again, but two weeks later, his secretary called, “Mr. Slaight wants to know if you’d like to come and audition for a new school life show.” I immediately answered,“Sure!”
When I arrived at the station, I went direct into the audition and began my short performance.

Finally came the day of my first public appearance on live TV with my parents at home watching.

42.A 根据下文“As both my parents worked, sometimes I would be given instructions to 43 the chicken in the oven after school.” 故选A。
45.B 根据下一段中的“I missed the chicken soup.”
46.D 根据下文“A white lace cloth, the good china, napkins.”
故选A。
故选A。
49.B 根据空前的but和下文“I missed the chicken soup.”

54.D 根据下文“these family traditions are really worth cherishing”可知,这些家庭传统在消失(disappear)之前真的值得珍惜,这是作者所学到(learned)的。
故填an。
故填who。
故填to。
故填What。
One possible version:
Good evening! My name is Li Hua. It’s my honor to be here to share with you one of my favorite films.
The film that impresses me most is Hi, Mom, directed by the celebrated actress Jia Ling, who also plays the leading role. It describes Jia traveling back to the year 1981, when she meets her mother at a young age and becomes her friend, hoping to improve her life and make her happy. This film has received many positive reviews. Many moviegoers couldn’t help but shed tears because of the main characters’ sincere affection for each other. I strongly recommend you to watch it.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!
第二节
One possible version:
When I arrived at the station, I went direct into the audition and began my short performance. With boldness, I finished my performance relatively smoothly. Never did I imagine that I would be assigned the intern job to act on a school life show on TV. After sharing the thrilling news with my dad, I received the warmest congratulations. In the following days, I was as busy as a bee for fear that I would make a fool of myself live on TV.
Finally came the day of my first public appearance on live TV with my parents at home watching. Dressed up properly, I went onto the stage nervously but proudly, thinking my show would be watched nationwide. But somehow, my mind went blank. Luckily, my partner noticed my nervousness and pulled me back in time. I immediately told a small joke to compensate for the embarrassment. As the show went on, so concentrated was I that I hardly dared to blink my eyes. After my debut, I rang my dad with frustration, only to receive his trust and encouragement again. It was Dad’s love and support that accompanied me along my way to be an outstanding actor.
