Growing up in a hot Las Vegas desert, all Amy Purdy wanted was to be free. She would dream about traveling around the world and living in a place where it snowed.
At the age of nineteen, she went to a snowy place and managed to find a good job there. For the first time, she felt free and could make money to feed her-self.
However, one day she went home from work with what she thought was the flu. But less than 24 hours later, she was in hospital. Several days later, the doctor told her that she had bacterial meningitis(细菌性脑膜炎).
Over the course of two and a half months, she lost both her legs below the knees. When her parents wheeled her out of the hospital, she was completely broken. However, she knew that in order to move forward, she had to say goodbye to the old Amy and learned to accept the new Amy.
Four months later, she tried snowboarding again, although things didn’t go quite well as she had expected:her knees and her artificial ankles(人工踝关节) were always straight. But she didn’t cry out.
With the help of her parents and her leg maker, she had the right pair of feet that she could snowboard in. After a lot of practice, she won 3 gold medals in the World Cup, which made her the best disabled woman snowboarder in the world.

We know that having a nice sleep is very important for a person. And people of different ages need different temperatures to sleep well. What’s the best temperature for old people to have a good sleep A group of researchers did a study and found the results were interesting.
The key to sleeping well at night for older people could be how hot or cold their rooms are. Researchers said the best way to get a good night’s sleep was to make sure the bedroom temperature was between 20°C and 25°C. The researchers are from Harvard University and the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research in the USA. They asked 50 people aged 65 and older to wear a sleep monitor for a year and a half. The researchers collected the information from the sleep monitors and found that the quality(质量) of sleep got worse when the room temperature was outside the 20 — 25°C. They also found that 20°C was the best temperature. The lead researcher said, “Sleep comes easier and is often deeper and more restful in a cooler environment.”
The research was full of surprising information. It reported that the temperature could influence sleep as much as experiencing pain or drinking alcohol(酒) before bedtime. The researchers found a 5% — 10% drop in sleep quality when the temperature was lower than 20°C or higher than 25°C. They said poor sleep could lead to health problems. These included inability to think clearly, mood swings(情绪波动) and higher levels of stress. Other problems included an increased chance of getting diabetes and cardiovascular disease(糖尿病与心血管疾病). The researchers said people should create “a more comfortable home environment” to sleep well. They also said, “Climate change may influence the sleep quality of older adults.”

One possible version:
Dear fellow students,
With the development of science and technology, more and more students prefer to use electronic products for taking notes and sending messages instead of writing on the paper. Thus, our handwriting is not as good as it was in the past. Facing the problem, we should do as follows.
First, we should use electronic products less often when learning. If so, we can have more opportunities to improve our handwriting. Besides, we must form the habit of practicing calligraphy every day. What’s more, it is better to write letters to our relatives and friends by hand instead of sending e-mails.
Beautiful and neat handwriting is of great benefit to us students. So let’s take action right now! I’m sure our efforts will pay off!
