When a tornado hit a small town nearby, many families were left homeless. Afterward, all the local newspapers carried stories of the families who suffered the hardest to appeal to people's attention and assistance.
One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of a mobile home, a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downcast. Hiding behind her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, wide eyes with confusion and fear. The article below gave clothing sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my seven year old twins, Brad and Brett, and three year old Meghan to help those less fortunate than themselves.
“We have so much. And these poor people now have nothing,” I said. “We'll share what we have with them.” I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them in the living room. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and foods. While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. The boys were pleased to join. Brad rose and went to his room fast. He came back bringing his action figures that he played with not so frequently. Brett also jumped up and ran to fetch some of his Matchbox cars and airplane models. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up abandoned toys.
The boys placed the objects they had chosen to donate into one of the boxes while I filled the third box with clothes. Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, faded, best loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. “I'll help you find something for the little girl, too,” I said to the little Meghan.

At eleven years old during my summer holiday, my main concern was money. I wanted to buy the new must have thing my classmates had. I already had a “job” as a sales representative with a kids based sales company, and I sold wrapping paper and greeting cards with the best of them. On my bedroom floor, I arranged the bills and change from my purse to see what I had. I wished it would multiply before my eyes, but of course it didn't. I went to my mom. “Mom, I need more money,” I said, leaning against the kitchen counter while she cooked dinner. “What else can kids do for a job around here?” Mom responded with a smile, “Okay, let me ask around.”
The next day, she had an answer, “Your grandmother will pay you to help her deliver lunch each day to the elderly.” Yes! I pumped my fist into the air. I couldn't wait to start my new job on Monday after school dismissed for the summer.
When my grandmother picked me up, I thanked her for the job and started asking the job. “It's simple. We pick up a large container full of hot meals in a nearby town and then we go on our delivery route,” she answered.
We arrived at the pick up kitchen and got dozens of little shiny silver boxes with white lids that were hot. After our load was arranged in the backseat, my grandmother drove us to our first stop: a small white house. I took a meal and a small box of milk from the back and walked beside my grandmother to the front gate. She opened it and nodded to me to go in. I walked along the cracked walkway. Tall grass tickled (使发痒) my ankles.
Did someone really live here I couldn't imagine that. The house didn't look nice, but I kept going. In front of the door leading to the enclosed front doorway, I paused, and my grandmother called out, “Mrs Hershel, we've brought you some lunch.”

Probably, most of you had the feeling before, at least once—you had been waiting for a long time, yet being afraid of getting. It was exactly my state of mind before the first day at college. I had been working hard to pass the necessary tests and have my application to the undergraduate programme in management approved. And when the time had come for me to visit the college for the first day of the study,I couldn't sleep all night because of being anxious about how to look good physically in front of the whole new world I was about to enter. However, the positive attitude and readiness to accept support from others helped a lot in a new environment.
It was Monday morning. Being too excited to sleep the night before, I came to the college half an hour earlier for the first lecture and was walking nervously through the hallway. About 15 minutes after I came, the hallway started to be full of students. Professors who walked on their business probably didn't pay attention to me. I knew which hall to go to and had already checked that it was open. However, I was hesitant to enter the hall and sit there alone. People were moving around me as if they hadn't seen me. I felt disappointed with the fact that I had nobody to talk to in the new and seemingly unfriendly place.
Suddenly, a well dressed man who seemed to be in his late twenties approached me. He introduced himself as Mathews and asked whether I was lost and whether he could help me with anything. In that situation, I realized it was very kind of him and that he was exactly the person I wanted to ask in my thoughts a minute before, but then I was too nervous for a friendly chat. As a result, instead of welcoming the opportunity to make the first acquaintance (相识), I told the man to mind his business and leave me alone since I was an adult capable of finding my class without anybody's assistance.

Often, when he came to visit, my grandfather would bring me a present. These were never the sorts of things that other people brought, such as dolls, books or toys. My dolls and toys have been gone for more than half a century, but many of my grandfather's gifts are still with me.
Once he brought me a little plastic cup. I looked inside, expecting to see something special. But there was only some loose soil in it, which made me disappointed. He smiled at me affectionately. Turning around,he picked up a little teapot from my dolls' tea set and took me to the kitchen where he filled the little cup with water. Back in the living room, he put it on the windowsill (窗台) and handed me the teapot. “If you promise to put some water in the cup every day, something may happen,” he told me.
At that time,I was only five years old. This whole thing made no sense to me at all. I looked at him doubtfully and asked, “Do I have to water it every day What will happen?” He nodded to me with encouragement,“Yes,every day, dear.”
And so I promised. At first, curious to see what would happen,I did not mind doing this. But as the days went by and nothing changed, it got harder and harder to remember to put water in the cup. After a week, I asked my grandfather if it was time to stop yet. Shaking his head, “No”, he said, “Every day.” The second week was even harder, and I became regretful of my promise to put water in the cup. When my grandfather came again, I tried to give it back to him,but he refused to take it, saying simply the same words, “Every day.” By the third week, I began to forget to put water in the cup during the day. Often, I would remember only after I had been put to bed and would have to get out of bed and water it in the dark. But I did not miss a single day.

Dad handed me the bucket and the net with a long, wooden handle. He gave Paulie two dead fish wrapped in newspaper. They were tied up with string like a present. I held my nose, but Paulie held those fish like they were his best baseball cards.
“Since we all want crabs for supper, catch a whole bunch. But just in case you don't, we have leftover broccoli (花椰菜),” Dad said with a wink.
The salty air from Chesapeake Bay filled our noses. This was the best place in the world to catch blue crabs. They like grassy, shadowy water, so Paulie and I headed for our old wooden dock. It was hot,and I sat down and swung my legs over the edge, into the cool water. Paulie struggled to tie the string to one of the slippery fish. Then he slid the extra fish into the bucket and set it in the dark water under the dock for later.
“Here,” Paulie handed me the baited string. “Dangle (提着) this down in the water to call the crabs.”
Crabs love smelly, old fish,so our first crab didn't take long to come. Its big claw clamped (紧夹住) the bait, and I raised the string real slow so Paulie could net it. But my legs swishing (发出刷刷声) in the water startled that crab, and it let go and floated back to the bottom like a leaf off a tree. Paulie brought up the net and stood there with the handle on the dock.
“Kathy, I can't believe you're going to be in third grade and can't sit still for one minute,” he said.
“And I can't believe you're going to be in sixth grade and haven't caught any crabs yet.”
I went back to dangling the fish.

A shop owner placed a sign above his door that read:“Puppies for Sale”. Signs like this always have a way of attracting young children, and to no surprise, a boy saw the sign and approached the owner.
“How much are you going to sell the puppies for?”he asked in a low voice.
The store owner replied,“Anywhere from $30 to$50.”
The little boy pulled out some change from his pocket.“But I only have$2.37,” he said.“Can I please look at them?”
The shop owner smiled and in no second whistled. Out of the kennel came a lady, who ran down the aisle of his shop followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping (跛行) puppy and said,“What's wrong with that little dog?”
The shop owner sighed and explained that the vet had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn't have a hip socket(髋臼). It would always limp. It would always be lame.
Hearing these words, the little boy became excited, “That is the very puppy that I want to buy.”
“No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I'll just give him to you,” the shop owner said, a little bit confused. The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger, and said, “I don't want you to give him to me.”

Instantly the alarm rang, all of us students ran downstairs one by one. We finally got together at the playground safely where our teachers were waiting for us. Hello everyone!
As is known to all, living green is very important for everyone. It can ensure our health and sustainable development. For us students, we should create a green school in order to contribute to a comfortable studying environment.
Firstly, we should arrange a series of lectures related to environmental protection, thus arousing students' awareness of establishing a green school and living a low carbon life. Secondly, we are willing to attach great importance to saving water, paper and electricity and planting trees and put them into practice. Thirdly,we must have good habits to keep every corner tidy in our school.
