A few weeks ago, my school’s ninth grade class went on a trip to the Black Country in England, UK, to learn about geography and history. Many believe the name comes from the 1760s because of the smoke put out by factories at that time. There is also a 1-meter-thick coal seam (煤层) close to the ground’s surface in Black Country.
The aim of this trip was to prepare us for a geography project about rivers. We also learned more about the history of England during the Industrial Revolution (革命). On the first day of our trip, we went to Carding Mill Valley near Birmingham and learned about the changes that could happen to a river as it flowed downstream (下游). Our teacher had given us a few lessons on how rivers worked before the trip, so we were well-prepared for the project we had to do.
The next day, we went to the famous Black Museum where we learned about coal mining (开采) and the lives of the people who lived during the Industrial Revolution. The highlight of the day was when we visited a coal mine and watched a skilled man make iron chain.
The trip was truly satisfying. I like how we got the chance to experience what we learned in class and practice it in real life. It was a useful way to get us more interested in what we were learning about. It also showed us the importance of the journey while learning something new.

I have a long list of the places I would love to visit. With so many travel destinations (目的地) to choose from, picking the ideal one can be a difficult task. 40
If you only have a short time to go on vacation, you should think about visiting one or at most two destinations. 41 You will spend too much time traveling and little time relaxing and enjoying yourself.
42 I try not to visit destinations with uncomfortable snowstorms or heavy rains that might make my travel experience terrible. You can’t control the weather. However, you can plan the trip by choosing destinations with ideal weather conditions. Find a destination which is neither too hot nor too cold for you.
I always think about the money when choosing a travel destination. 43 If planned well, the trip will still be perfect with less money.
I often choose a travel destination according to the activities I’m interested in. I always ask myself, “Why do I plan the trip ” “What can I get from the trip ” 44 If you aren’t sure about your purpose (目的), it may take you a lot of time to look up popular tourist activities in different cities across the world. Fed up with tourists who only come in to check out the scenery, the owners of Queviures Murria, a grocery store in Barcelona, Spain, have put up a sign announcing a 5-euro fee for coming in just to look.
Queviures Murria has been in business since 1898 and is one of the most eye-catching locations in all of Barcelona. The vintage (老式的) look of the store and the traditional design of the inside attract hundreds of tourists every day, but the problem is that many of them aren’t actually interested in the products sold inside—all kinds of traditional Spanish cured sausages, cold cuts, cured cheeses, oils, wines, etc. According to the store, many tourists enter the store without even saying a simple “hello”, wander around taking pictures, and then simply leave without buying anything. So it decided to charge people for “just looking” just to discourage (劝阻) them.
Toni Merino, one of the managers at Queviures Murria, said that the idea to charge tourists a fee for simply coming into the grocery store and looking around without buying anything started out as a joke, but as the staff and the regular customers became increasingly inconvenienced (打扰) by random tourists looking around, taking pictures, with absolutely no interest in the products on display, they decided to do it.
Merino has clarified that he and his partners have no interest in actually charging the fee, and they don’t really have to anymore. By posting a warning about the 5-euro fee in the shop window, they have managed to discourage most unwanted visitors.
After photos of the 5-euro fee announcement in the window of Queviures Murria spread quickly on social media, the Barcelona business faced a public outcry, and it was forced to explain the reasons and clarify that it didn’t really plan on carrying on the measure.
45.What can we learn about Queviures Murria
A.Tourists are not welcome there. B.It has a history of nearly 100 years.
C.Tourists prefer its design to its products. D.It charges people for taking photos.
46.Why did the grocery store put up the sign
A.To provide a better shopping environment. B.To earn a fame (名声) for itself.
C.To attract more tourists to the store. D.To make more money.
47.What did Merino mean by saying “they don’t really have to anymore”
A.They stopped charging tourists for coming in and looking around.
B.The idea was just a joke among staff and was never carried about.
C.Tourists no longer come to this place because they don’t want to pay.
D.There is no need to charge because unwanted visitors don’t come in now.
48.What’s the public’s opinion on the measure
A.Opposed. (反对的) B.Objective. (客观的)
