To stay healthy and fit, Chinese students do group exercises every day at school. Most of you probably do the same set of exercises. But some school exercises have grown popular online due to their local and innovative (创新的) designs. Let's check one of them out!
Singing in the Sichuan dialect with energetic movements and unique mask-changing is not just a Sichuan Opera performance. It's the routine exercise for students of Mianyang Foreign Languages Experimental School in Sichuan Province.
"Sichuan Opera is a local opera, and it is now facing a gap in inheritance (传承). Therefore, we cooperated with the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of Mianyang to create a simple and easy-to-learn Sichuan Opera exercise," said Shen Junhua, who is in charge of organizing the school's exercise between classes.
According to Shen, this new type of exercise has been practiced since 2017 and has been popular among students. When students enroll (报名), they will spend several weeks practicing it. At present, almost all of the students and teachers have mastered it.
"In fact, we had hardly heard of Sichuan Opera before teachers taught us how to do the Sichuan Opera exercise," said Li Yangwen, 14, an eighth-grade student who also joined the school's Sichuan Opera club out of interest. "It's very different from normal exercises. After practicing it, we found it very beautiful and became interested in it. Now, almost all of the students look forward to our daily exercise time and feel excited to do it."
"By combining opera with daily exercise, the daily activity allows students to perceive and understand Sichuan Opera's culture," said Shen. After years of continuous efforts to spread the seeds of traditional culture, the younger generation will finally catch on.

After four silent years, the 27-year-old British singer Adele Adkins finally introduced herself to the world again with Hello, the opening song from her third album 25, which came out on Nov.20, 2015.
Although Adele is a very successful singer now, music wasn't always what she saw herself doing. At age 10, when she saw her grandmother's pain over the death of her grandfather, she pictured herself as a heart surgeon.
"I wanted to fix people's hearts," she told the UK music website i-D, remembering the childhood interest she'd had in biology classes until she figured out that her real talent was for singing.
Adele didn't go to medical school, but many would agree that she still has healing powers. Her songs find the kind of memory every listener holds somewhere in their heart. "This kind of feeling is what people have always liked in Adele," said The Telegraph. "She writes a pop diary, sharing the simple secrets of her heart."
Most successful pop stars make albums at a fast pace, but not Adele. After her second album 21 won the 2012 Grammy Award for Album of the Year, she made it clear with her label that she would spend "four or five years" making her next album. She told a magazine, "I won't come out with new music until it's better than the music of 21."
Instead of seeking fame, Adele remained silent and moved to the countryside. In her free time, she loved to watch TV series like Teen Mom, American Horror Story, and The Walking Dead.
Living life as normally as possible is important to the singer's art. "Nobody wants to listen to a record from someone who is not living in the real world," Adele told i-D, "so I live a low-key life for my fans."
28. What does the text mainly tell us
A. The popularity of Adele's album 25.
B. The healing powers of Adele's music.
C. The secrets of Adele's success in music.

D. To share the secrets of her heart as a musician.

A study has shown how ecotourism in the Philippines has changed people's attitudes towards marine conservation(海洋保护).
Researchers from the University of Victoria and other institutes in the Philippines visited three sites where tourists pay to swim with whale sharks in the wild. They interviewed a range of locals in Oslob, Donsol and Pintuyan, including fishers and whale shark hunters. In Oslob, the largest of the three sites, people were more likely to speak about the resulting improvement in their quality of life and increase in job opportunities. At the smaller, less profitable sites, people's responses were more likely to be about the changes in how people behaved towards the sharks.
Dr. Jackie Ziegler, leader of the team of researchers, said, "Many of the people reported they cared about and valued whale sharks because of tourism activities. They also expressed the community's emotional connection with the species and the strong need to protect them. Before the introduction of tourism activities, most of the locals admitted to harming the sharks by hitting them with stones or riding them." In terms of attitudes towards the wider marine environment, the majority of the respondents now actively encourage others to care about the ocean and they also use more sustainable fishing practices.
The study also acknowledged the potential negative effects of tourism on the marine environment, such as impacts on the health of local coral reefs and of the sharks. It concluded that further studies were needed to assess these impacts before a firm conclusion could be drawn regarding the positive impacts of whale shark tourism on ocean conservation.
Nevertheless, the researchers say their work suggests ecotourism should be an effective means of strengthening protection. "Bringing the views of the local tour operator to the study was necessary for uncovering the true impacts of whale shark tourism and the wider benefits to the ocean conservation the Philippines," Dr. Ziegler added.
32. What were the local people the least concerned about according to Paragraph 2
A. The improvement in the quality of life.
B. The behaviour towards sharks.
C. The increase in work chances.
D. The relationships between people.
33. Which word can best describe locals' actions towards marine life before the introduction of ecotourism
A. Protective. B. Satisfying.
C. Unsustainable. D. Beneficial.
34. What will be the focus of future research on tourism
A. The influence on marine species.
B. The strategies for carrying out marine ecotourism.
C. The types of ocean conservation.
D. The importance of protecting the local whale sharks.
35. What can be the best title of the text
A. Ecotourism Changes Locals' Attitudes to Marine Conservation
B. Ecotourism Does Much Good to Marine Life as Before
C. Marine Ecotourism Gives Rise to a New Kind of Business
D. Ecotourism Has Brought Large Benefits to People
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Your colleague is the first one in and the last one to leave. They volunteer to take on every additional task that comes your team's way and they respond to emails within minutes. They're working all the time, whether from the office or from home. 36. ______
Dealing with a workaholic colleague can be challenging, but there are steps you can take to ease the negative effects of their behaviour on yourself and your team.
Depersonalise their actions.
While it's tempting to assume that your colleague is overworking in an attempt to outshine you, this is a classic example of a cognitive bias (偏见). In social psychology, this refers to the tendency humans have to attribute another person's actions to their character or personality, while attributing our own behaviour to external or situational factors that are outside our control. 37. ______ Debias your thinking by considering other reasons for their behaviour.
Resist peer pressure.
38.______ You may start comparing your capacity and output to theirs and wonder, "Am I really working hard enough " Before you begin overextending yourself in an effort to "catch up", mind your mindset and be aware of extremist thinking. Taking time off for self-care isn't indulgent (放纵的), rather it's a precondition for your performance.
39. ______
Workaholics tend to have few boundaries. You'll need to play defence by managing their expectations around your response times and availability. Let's say your colleague asks you to turn around a project brief in less than 24 hours. You can push back and explain, "That's not possible. If you have this sort of task in the future, I'll need at least a three days' notice to work it into my schedule." You might also advocate for better systems and processes that remove the need for extra effort.
Finally, remember to adjust your perspective on productivity. While it may be tempting to evaluate your daily success based on the number of hours you work, it's the quality of work you deliver that matters most. 40._______
A. Set boundaries.
B. Make lifestyle adjustments.
C. In short, you're dealing with a workaholic.
D. The workaholic's behaviour can affect our well-being for the worst.
E. Being good at your job doesn't mean working more but producing results.
F. Guilt can make it easy for you to fall into the same patterns as your colleague.
G. In other words, your colleague is probably not overworking to be one up on you.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When Jackie came to his first piano lesson in his mother's car, he was already 11 years old. I preferred students that began at an earlier age, but owing to his insistence, I took him as a student. Much as Jackie tried, he lacked the sense of basic rhythm(节奏). At the end of each lesson, he'd say, "My mom's going to hear me play someday." But it seemed hopeless. I only knew his mother from a distance as she waited in her old car, but never stepped in.
Then one day Jackie stopped coming to our lessons. I thought about calling him but assumed(认为) that, because of his lack of ability, he had decided to quit. I was also glad that he stopped coming—he was a bad advertisement for my teaching!
Several weeks later I mailed a letter on the upcoming concert to the students' homes. Surprisingly, Jackie received it and asked me if he could be in the concert. I told him that the concert was not for dropouts(辍学者), but for current pupils. He said that his mom had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons but he was still practicing. I didn't know what led me to agree eventually.
The night for the concert came. The high school gymnasium was packed with parents and friends. I placed Jackie last in the program. I thought that any damage he would do would come at the end of the program and the negative effect would be reduced to the minimum(最小值).
The concert went off smoothly. Then Jackie came up on stage. His clothes were wrinkled(皱巴巴的) and his hair looked messy. "Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night " I thought.

第二节
Paragraph 1:
Unexpectedly, Jackie chose Mozart's Piano Concerto No.21 in C Major. Jackie pulled out the piano bench and began his performance. As a matter of fact, I was not fully prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were dancing on keys, which made me extremely shocked. Never had I heard Mozart's music played so well by people of his age. After six and a half minutes, his performance ended very well. Everyone at present was wild with great excitement and was on their feet, breaking into loud applause.
Paragraph 2:
Immediately I ran up on stage and held Jackie firmly in great joy, asking "How did you do it " "Well... remember I told you that my mom was sick " he explained, tears rolling in his eyes, "Actually she had cancer and passed away this morning. And she was born deaf, so this was the first time that she had ever heard me play in heaven. I just wanted to make it special." After hearing his words, tears were welling up in my eyes. And at that moment, I realized it was he that taught me the true meaning of perseverance and love.
