When Oliver arrived in this hard world, it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. He lay on a hard little bed and struggled to start breathing.
Oliver fought his first battle without much help from the two people present at his birth. One was an old woman, who was nearly always drunk, and the other was a busy local doctor, who was not paid enough to be very interested in Oliver’s survive.
However, Oliver managed to draw his first breath, and then announced his arrival by crying loudly. His mother raised her pale young face and whispered, “let me see it.”
The doctor turned away from the fire, where he had been warming his hands. He gave her the child. Lovingly, she kissed the baby with her cold white lips, then stared wildly around the room, fell back—and died.
The doctor began to put on his coat. “The mother was a good-looking girl. Where did she come from ”
“She was brought here last night,” replied the old woman. “She was found lying in the street. Where she came from, or what her name was, nobody knows.”
The doctor lifted the girl’s left hand. “The old story, ” he shook his head. “No wedding ring, I see. Ah! Good night.”
And so Oliver was left with only the drunken nurse. He was then sent to a special “baby farm” nearby. There, he and thirty other children rolled (翻滚) around the floor all day, without the inconvenience of too much food or too much clothing. Mrs. Mann, who “looked after” them, was very experienced. She knew what was good for children. She also knew what was good for herself. The board (董事会) responsible for the orphans (孤儿) sometimes checked on the health of the children, but they always sent Mr. Bumble, a kind local policeman, to announce their visit the day before. So whenever the board arrived, of course, the children were always neat and clean.
On Oliver’s ninth birthday, Mr. Bumble came to see Mrs. Mann. Through the front window, Mrs. Mann saw him at the gate, and turned quickly to the girl who worked with her.
“Quick! Take Oliver and those others upstairs to be washed!” she said. Then she ran out to unlock the gate which was always kept locked.

Today we can do everything with apps. However, when it comes to technology and health care, chances and challenges come together.
Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis (诊断) and instructions without leaving home. In addition, there are many patient websites. These allow for different kinds of interactions about our health needs without the medical team.
However, every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care
Firstly, we should think about the health care experience as a whole. A usual visit to a doctor begins with a receptionist (接待员), who can see and know how a patient is doing. This may influence the treatment effect. It’s impossible that a patient website will have such intuition.
Next, sharing the details of one’s life requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where patients can share some of life’s best and worst moments with doctors. This human touch maybe isn’t there over the smartphone.
Lastly, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a flagged (打记号的) result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of stories to form in their minds—and also great worry.
So how does medicine adapt (适应) to the new technology age Very talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment (设备) that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems likely that some companies will find a way to explain test results.
But what it will not achieve is the warmth of human interaction and touch. Patients often need someone to listen to and care about their journey story, which will never be realized through tecnology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it completely will most certainly have unexpected effects. Let’s not allow our humanity to be one of them.
34.What is the advantages of techno-health care
A.A doctor can share the details of patient’s life.
B.Patients can understand the test results easily.
C.A doctor can see and know how a patient is doing.
D.It offers the patient a way to get a diagnosis easily.
35.What is this passage mainly about
A.Techno-health care has chances as well as challenges.
B.Patients can get a diagnosis and instructions without leaving home.
C.Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor.
D.There are many patient websites that allow for different kinds of interactions.
36.What do you know about techno-health care from the passage
A.Patient websites require trust from doctors.
B.Medical equipment collects patients’ stories.
C.Flagged results may cause worry for patients.
D.Talented companies can give medical advice.

A.technology can deal with unexpected effects

Sunshine, beaches and coconut—many people think Hainan is a paradise(天堂). But did you know it’s a paradise for plants and animals, too
Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, in the south of Hainan Island, has the most concentrated and well-preserved tropical rainforest in China. President Xi Jinping visited it in April 2022.
The national park covers 4,269 square kilometers, or one-seventh of the island. More than 95 percent of the park is virgin forest and is home to 3,653 types of vascular plants and 540 types of terrestrial vertebrates(陆生脊椎动物).
The park is the only habitat(栖息地)of the world’s most endangered primate(灵长类动物)—the Hainan gibbon(长臂猿). They look like monkeys but have no tails. They live in trees and eat fruits and leaves from more than 130 plants. The number of Hainan gibbons has increased from fewer than 10 in the 1980s to 36 in 2022. This shows China’s achievements in environmental protection.
Not just a home to animals, the park is a “live museum” of amazing plants. More than 400 kinds of plants grow only in Hainan. Cycas hainanensis(海南苏铁)is a wild plant native to the island. With feather-like leaves, this plant can live up to 200 years old.
With so many plants and animals, the biodiversity level of the park is similar to that of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It’s a treasure for both China and the world.Title: A paradise for plants and animals
