As is known to all of us, living in space can be very different from that on Earth. One of the most important differences is that there is no gravity(引力) in space. So many people think living things can’t develop(发育) well in space. However, a new discovery may prove(证明) they’re wrong.
A team of Japanese scientists sent mouse embryos(胚胎) to space in August 2021. Then astronauts let them grow on the space station for four days. Guess what happened The mouse embryos successfully developed just like they do on Earth! The different environment didn’t stop the development of mouse embryos.
The scientists soon shared their study online. They pointed out that gravity might not have much effect(影响) on the development of these mouse embryos. When the mouse embryos were sent back to Earth, the scientists also checked their DNAs and genes(基因). They found that they were still the same. However, they still needed to do more studies to make sure everything was okay with the embryos.
This surprising research is the first to show that mouse embryos can successfully develop in
the special environment of space. The team’s next plan is to place these embryos into the mice to

Some parents may have trouble getting their kids away from phones and outside during the holidays. But for one Virginia family, this wasn’t a big deal. Josh and Cassie Sutton finished a full-length hike with their son, Harvey.
The family spent 209 days walking thousands of miles to finish the whole Appalachian Trail, which is simply called the AT. Harvey was just 4 years old when they started, and celebrated his 5th birthday during the long travel.
To build up Harvey’s body and mind, Josh and Cassie Sutton have been hiking with him since he was two. They prepared him for hiking the AT by starting out with lots of shorter walks and hikes.
The AT is a 2,180-mile hiking trip that runs through the forests of the Appalachian Mountains. The amount(数量) of up and down on the trip is about the same as climbing up and down Mount Qomolangma (the world’s highest mountain) 16 times. Only one out of every four hikers finishes the trip.
But that didn’t stop Harvey and his family. During his days on the trip, Harvey played games with his parents. This helped him walk more quickly and have fun. They also made friends with other hikers. Harvey enjoyed the hard work of hiking. “My favorite part was rock climbing. It was
really hard but fun,” he said.
Hiking the Appalachian Trail taught Harvey and his parents how to work as a team and how to go through difficulties together. Because of the experience, they are closer than ever before. Harvey said, “I want to hike it again in the future.”
