Wu Lin, 13, of Fujian, learned to swear in middle school. “More than 10 of 22 boys in my class often swear,” Wu said. “We just swear for fun most of the time. But later, I understood that it was bad for me. So I stopped.”

Then some classmates laughed at her,” Li says, “From that day on, she never put up her hand. Those laughing kids hurt her a lot.”

Homework is a problem for students all over the world. As a student, you have lots of homework to do every day. It’s a major part of a student’s schooldays. It’s the best way to review what you have learned in class. And it helps you understand important concepts (概念). Luckily, there are several things you can do to make homework less difficult.
Be sure you understand the homework
Write your homework down in your notebook if you need to. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about it. It’s much easier to ask the teacher during or after class than to try to remember later that night!
Use your time at school
Many schools have study hall. It is designed to allow students to study on their own. It’s more interesting to play with friends. But the more homework you finish at school, the less you’ll have to do that night.
Take a break
It’s difficult to hold your attention for too long. So take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you feel very tired. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good idea for most people.
Make a plan
If you don’t finish your homework at school, think about how much you have left, so you can budget your time. Most students have between 1 hour and 3 hours of homework a night. If it’s a heavy homework day, you’ll need to spend more time on it. It’s a good idea to make a homework timetable, especially when you want to enjoy sports or other activities.

Do Kids Need Homework
School is a big part of life, not just for kids but for their families. There are many reports and discussions about what’s best for students. Everyone has their own opinions. And they don’t always agree.
Do kids need homework It depends. Some readers from a famous magazine, think that the extra(额外的)work reviews what they have learnt in class. And it also helps teachers find where students need more help. Others say homework adds to students’ stress and takes time away from exercise or learning something new. In order to know what kind of homework kids should do and how much kids need, the magazine interviewed several kids.
Karen, 9
Kids need homework. When they learn something new in school, reviewing it at home helps them remember it. Our homework gives our teachers valuable information. It tells them how much students are paying attention in class and who needs extra help.
Michael, 9
In my opinion, giving students homework is a bad idea. After school kids need experiences that build a healthy mind and body. Homework is not supposed to stress kids out. When there is too much homework, students do poorly in homework. In fact, doing homework poorly is worse than doing no homework. As long as students are working hard in class, it’s best not to give them extra work.
Robert, 8
Kids need homework. But that depends. Middle and high school students can do more homework. At my school, primary students get homework, but not too much. My teacher might ask us to learn spelling words at home, and each week we’ll be given a test.
Susan, 11
Kids don’t need homework. They’re learning for six hours a day at school. Adding another hour of work for kids to do at home is just having them repeat what they’ve been doing all day. Besides, homework takes time away from activities like team sports. These are just as important as schoolwork, because they keep kids active.

A.Primary students don’t need to do homework.
B.High school students can do more homework.
C.Homework just repeats what is learned in class.
29.What does “These” refer to(指代)in the last paragrapgh
A.Kids. B.Subjects. C.Activities like team sports.
As the “Double Reduction” policy(“双减”政策) came out, students have time to do after-school activities. Last month we did a survey about how to make your spare time more meaningful. We asked 1, 000 students in our city. They have done different things for fun, for exercise or for knowledge. They may visit different places, do exercise, read in the library, get close to nature and so on. Now we give the following suggestions.
First, most students think that visiting different places make a difference to their lives. It not only brings them a lot of fun, but also helps them open up their eyes. Second, it is a good chance for them to get close to nature and relax themselves. Third, they can know more about the world by reading and can be inspired to think deeply. What’s more, they can do exercise, go to the cinema, and take part in some social activities as volunteers to help those in need. Look at the following charts. You can know more about the survey.

Many Chinese people wonder what presents to get for their moms on Mother’s Day, but not many know Mother’s Day is actually a festival from overseas. Mother’s Day originated(起源)in America during the early 20th century. The festival spread to China as early as the 1980s and was widely accepted.
Why did a foreign festival become popular in China In fact, Chinese traditional culture has always encouraged filial devotion(孝道)to parents. There are many stories which show filial respect in ancient China. For example, the story of Taste Liquid(液体的Medicine for Mother tells us the filial virtue(美德)of Emperor Wen of the Western Han dynasty. His mother had been sick for three years, He often stayed up by her bedside and cared for her day and night. He tasted the liquid medicine first before she drank it. Children in China are brought up with the education of filial devotion.
On special days, people often uses roses or forget-me-nots to express love, carnations are considered as the perfect flowers for mothers around the world, but few know that China has its own flower for mothers—the tiger lily.
Love for mothers can have different ways of expression. What matters most is love, not the festival itself. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love not the festival itself. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love from their children.

In China, safety education is becoming more and more important now. The last Monday in March is for students to learn it at school. It helps students learn more about how to keep themselves safe. What are the main accidents at school Let’s take a look. Stampedes, earthquakes and fires are the main accidents at school.
A stampede always happens in crowded places. When students around you begin to push, just stand there and try to hold onto something. If you fall down in the crowd, move to one side and protect your head with your hands around.
When earthquakes happen, you can get under a desk quickly and hold on. It will protect you from falling things. If you are outside, find a place away from buildings, trees, and power lines. When there’s a fire, leave the classroom quickly. It’s better to put something wet over your mouth and nose. In this way, you won’t breathe in smoke. Many people die in a fire, not because of the fire but smoke. It makes them cough and they can’t breathe. That’s very dangerous! So when you want to get out, you should make yourself close to the floor. Then you can breathe some fresh air.

A livestreaming platform(直播平台)once tried to broadcast(播出)classroom situations live, including students having classes or self-studying. It raised a heated discussion. Here are some students’ opinions.
Student A: I agree with it. When I watched the videos, I saw some comments(评价) from adults like “I admire the way they focus on studying. I want to go back to my school time.” The livestreaming show reminds adults of their wonderful memories of school. It’s a good thing.
Student B: I support the idea. Students’ parents can see what they are doing at school. It will help them know their children better. What’s more, I think if students know they are on a live show, they will behave themselves. Teachers will try to make their classes more interesting.
Student C: In my opinion, it’s bad to show students’ performances in the classroom on the Internet. It’s a violation(侵犯) of privacy. Not only can the parents of these kids watch it on their computers or mobile phones, but also other people in society can watch it. It’s a safety threat(威胁), because bad people may make use of the videos illegally(非法地)and hurt these students.
Student D: This act doesn’t respect students. Through the live broadcast, people across the country can see the students’ acts without those students even knowing about it. If it is an open class and the school has got the students’ permission, it will be fine. But now it seems that the platform is directly putting the videos on the Internet without permission.

①In 2021, China’s education system announced a new “Double Reduction” policy (“双减”政策). “Double Reduction” refers to a reduction in the total amount and time of school homework and a reduction of after-school classes.
②“The policy really helps me,” Shen Yuzhe, a 13-year-old boy from Beijing said. He is happy that he has less homework than before and he can finish it at school with no need to take it home. “I’m also happy to find there are fewer exams. Besides, teachers now teach at a much slower pace so that we have enough time to understand what we have learned. We don’t need to buy workbooks anymore and the exercises are mainly from the textbook,” Shen Yuzhe said.
③“The best thing about the ‘Double Reduction’ is the increased time in after-school activities such as dancing, volleyball and drama.” Zhang Hangming from Tianjin is also excited. He has joined a group called “Leadership Development”, learning all kinds of useful skills. He likes it because teachers are also giving them more chances to learn from real life. For example, they went to research plants in a field during a science class. He believes that is a much better way to learn than just studying the books.
④Some people welcome the policy while others are still worried. Yu Zhiyue, a middle school student in Jiangsu, still feels tired. “With the ‘Double Reduction’, I have really got less homework to do. But my mother is worried that I will lose the chance to review what I’ve learned in class without enough homework. So I have lots of after-school classes. Since I can only take these classes on weekdays now, weekdays have become especially long and tiring for me. From Monday to Friday, I need to take online classes at home after I come back from school,” she said. “My parents told me the rules had changed but the competition had not gone away.”
62.Why does Shen Yuzhe like the policy
A.Because he has less homework and fewer exams.
B.Because he has more after-school activities.
C.Because he takes after-school classes on weekdays.
D.Because he has chances to learn from real life.
63.Which opinion may Yu Zhiyue’s mother agree
A.Children should have time to relax. B.It’s better to learn by reading books.
C.Children still need to study very hard. D.It’s important to develop useful skills.
64.What’s the purpose of the passage
A.To show the influence of the policy on students.
B.To introduce the importance of the policy.
C.To explain the reason why the policy is popular.
D.To encourage students to do less homework.
65.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.

In July 2021, China introduced the “double reduction” policy(双减政策). It hopes to reduce(减少) schoolwork burden(负担) on primary and junior high school students. The policy calls for reducing homework and after-school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for junior high school students to finish their homework. After-school training institutions(机构) are not allowed to offer extra(额外的) education courses or advanced(超前的) teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations. How do students feel about this new policy
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing.“We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.” According to Shen, students have enough time to process new knowledge now.“Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments(实验) and learn from real life. This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books.” said Shen.
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama.” said Zhang.
Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it’s not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points,” Zhang said.

Paper seems to be very common today, but it is a basic part of modern civilization (文明). In the Muslim world, people began to produce paper in Baghdad 1,100 years ago and it is believed that the secrets of Chinese paper making were passed on to the people of Baghdad around the year 751.
Very quickly, the art of paper making was developed and transformed into mass production by the factories of Baghdad. Many factories were set up to make paper. Some factories even developed the skill of using linen (亚麻) to take the place of mulberry trees (桑树) which the Chinese used. People paid a lot of attention to improving production during this period.
With this development, many paper making factories appeared in Baghdad. And then the industry spread to Damascus, which became a major source (来源) of paper for Europe as well as other places around the world.
After the industry developed in Iraq, Syria and Palestine, it spread west. The first paper factory in Africa was built in Egypt around 850. Then a paper factory was built in Morocco, and it reached Spain in 950. In 1293 the first paper factory was set up in Italy. Education is not just about going to school. It’s also about what you learn from your experience outside of school. So family and community(社会) play a great role.
In January, 13 agencies(部门)—including the Ministry of Education-released a guideline(意见) to improve the school-family-commumity cooperative education mechanism(学校家庭社会协同育人机制). It clarifies the roles and responsibilities of school, family and community and how they work together to educate children.
“The goal of the guideline is to give full play to the advantages of each party and promote(促进) the all-round development of students. Zhang Zhiyong, a professor at Beijing Normal University, told China Education Daily.
According to the guideline, schools play a leading role in cooperative education. They should keep close contact(联系) with parents. Paying a home visit and offering family education guidance(指导) regularly(定期的) are made a must. Parents should play a role in family education. Besides traditional education, they are encouraged to lead their kids to take part in activities like volunteering and doing sports. The community is expected to provide support and service to students. All kinds of education bases(基地) and museums, for example, should be free or preferential(优惠的) to students.
Gao Wei, 43, a mother of a 14-year-old from Beijng, is excited about the guideline. “Strengthening(加强) the connection between the school and parents is not a new thing. What is true is that the world’s population doesn’t stay the same. It has been increasing at a very fast rate(比例).That’s in part because in each generation(代) these are more people who then have children than in the last generation.
Five hundred years ago, the population of the world was about 460 million. In 1900,the world’s population was under 2 billion(十亿).Right now it is doubling every 40 years. That means, if this rate of growth continues, when you are a parent, there will be twice as many people on earth as there are now. Wow! Now that’s a whole lot of people! Soon the world’s population will probably reach 7 billion. Some people worry about that! But there is a lot of disagreement about just how many people on earth equals(相当于) too many people. I don’t like bullies. Bullies are people who keep saying things or doing things that hurt you. Bullies make you feel scared. They hurt you or embarrass you. Sometimes they take things from you without your permission. Sometimes they break your thing with no reason.

Everyone needs to work together to let bullies know that we won’t allow bullying in our school. We won’t ignore(忽视)bullying. If we ignore bullying, then the bullies will get away with it. If we let bullies continue hurting others, then we are just as bad as them. We all need to let bullies know that they have to stop. We need to tell them we don’t like it. Moms take care of their children life and dads bring home food and make the family rules. These are the roles moms and dads fall into when they become parents and it’s common among all cultures. But times change and parents’ roles seem to be changing, too. More women are bringing home food by having full-time jobs and men are taking care of their children at home.
Chinese TV show Where Are We Going, Dad provides a closer look at the changing roles of dads in modern family life. The show follows the adventures(冒险经历)of five celebrity(明星)dads who take trips with their young children (aged 4 to 6) and try to complete a set of tasks. It shows how young dads are trying hard to find the best way to raise their children and keep a closer relationship with them. Young dads no longer want to be cold.
Psychologists(心理学家)say that a strong fatherly influence is important in a child’s development. Fathers teach their children skills and encourage them to try new things. They also give them a sense of safety. A child learns that if something goes wrong, he or she can depend on dad to help fix it. The psychologists also say that without a dad, a child is more possible to drop out of school and get into trouble.

In March 2014, Australia opened junior high education to Chinese students, allowing them to study in Australian schools from the seventh grade.
“When more Chinese students are going to study abroad at a younger age, the opening of Australian junior high schools offers Chinese students and their parents one more good choice,” Tian Litie, director of the Australian Department of Chivast Education International, said at the China International Education Exhibition Tour over the weekend.
Australia will see a rise in the number of Chinese junior and senior high school students studying in the country. Tian showed the reasons for it: lower admission (入学许可) requirements and low-cost education because of a favorable exchange rate (费率). According to Tian, in public schools in Australia a student should pay A$13,000 to A$15,000 ($10,000 to $12,000) a year.
“Now the exchange rate of the Australian dollar to renminbi is below five, which means the cost is lower than that of Chinese students studying at junior and senior high schools in many other hot places, such as Britain and the US,” said Tian.
Lin Lina from Beijing plans to send her daughter to a senior high school in Australia, was among them.
