Unit 1 Past and present 任务型阅读(含解析)牛津译林版 八年级下册英语题型专项集训
Trains are a good form of public transportation in Britain.
British people use trains a lot. This is especially so for people who are travelling from London to Paris. Every day about 20 trains leave London. They travel at a very high speed and people feel glad that the trains take only 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach Paris. It’s much faster to travel by train than by car or by bus. This is because people have to drive cars or buses very carefully and slowly for many reasons, such as speed limits and traffic jams (事故). However, when you are travelling by train, the speed is almost the same and there is no traffic jams for a train.
Besides, Londoners think taking a train is one of the safest ways of travelling on the ground.Trains take quite a number of quality tests while they are made. More importantly, they have to take many safety checks before they are used on the rail track.
What’s more, trains in Britain are comfortable and provide fine services (服务) for their users. When you are on a London train, you will find that the train has comfortable tables and seats where people can sit. They also provide food services and power plugs (电源插头) for personal computers or mobile phones.

Parkville was near Arnwick, a city with a population of 10,000,000. People from Parkville moved to Arnwick to find jobs. However, it was expensive to live in the city centre, so the government built flats outside the centre. Soon, Parkville became part of Arnwick, and the population of Arnwick became even larger. It is very crowded, and rubbish is also a problem.
Jo lives in one of those flats. But for her, going to school is a problem. The small local school in Parkville closed down five years ago, and getting to the nearest school in Arnwick takes her an hour by bus. The traffic is always bad, not to mention the air pollution.
Luckily, the government is making a great effort to solve Arnwick’s problems with better public services. There will be more schools, so pupils won’t need to travel far. The government is reducing air pollution from traffic. There will also be more local hospitals to meet the needs of the increasing population.

In the UK, bus journeys are very common. Buses are often convenient(便利的)for the people who live or work in the city centre. Passengers can avoid heavy traffic and do not have to pay for the parking. However, taking the bus is just a necessary but boring part of life: They get on the bus, pay for it and sit down or find a place to stand when it is crowded. Everyone seems sad and bored.
In Latin America, however, bus trips can be wonderful. For a start, films are showed on the buses between cities for passengers to have fun along the journeys. Local buses do not show films, but drivers usually turn on the radio and it can be great for passengers to listen to songs and get relaxed.
Even better than films and music are the sights and sounds on the buses. Local buses always go to parts of the town that passengers would not visit by themselves. There passengers can see shops that they have never heard about. And they can also see other cultures of the town from the windows of the buses.
Besides, passengers’ luggage(行李)is also interesting. It is common to see a happy dog’s head getting out of somebody’s bag or a lovely chicken “speaking cheerfully” under somebody’s arm. Once on a bus in Peru, a farmer even tied a sheep to the top of the bus. It was quite surprising.
In all, taking the bus in Latin America is really fun and unforgettable.

How do you get to school every day By bike, bus or car In our city, there will be 3,000 new school buses in the street by the end of this year. These school buses look just like American school buses: yellow with a big nose.
In February 2010, the Chinese government announced the first standards (标准) for school bus safety. Since then, more yellow school buses can be seen in the street.
In China, besides the bus driver, there should be an adult on the school bus to watch the students. If there are more than 40 students, two adults are needed. The students usually rest or read books on the school bus.
In America, yellow school buses are very popular. There are about 480,000 school buses in the country. The older kids sit in the back of the bus. The younger kids sit in the front. They usually listen to music, talk on their phones or just sleep. The only adult on the bus is the driver.
The school bus is important in students’ everyday lives. It can keep children safe. Usually, a child is much safer going to school by school bus than any other way. It can also help the environment. A school bus saves a lot of gas (汽油) because it can carry a lot of people.
