“To me, love is the most important thing. What could be more healing than love ”
These words, like lines from a poem, are from Robin, who founded the Bumi Sehat Bali Clinic in central Ubud. Now the clinic provides treatment or educational support for over 100, 000 people annually.
Giving birth to her first child at nineteen, Robin moved to Hawaii after college, working for several years on a farm, where she taught farming practices and poetry. But in 1991, she received heartbreaking news. Her idyllic life on the farm was turned upside down when her sister, expecting a child in Alabama, died of pregnancy complications
“When my dear sister passed away, I realized mothers were dying everywhere. In countries with increased poverty, some people can’t afford to go to the hospital. What motivated me initially was my love for my sister, but this soon grew into a concern for mothers and children all over the world.” Robin’s feelings for her sister were transformed into a desire to help women everywhere in need.
To ensure that children are born healthy, nutritionally balanced meals are provided for expecting mothers free of charge. Those who lack housing are free to stay as long as it is necessary. The clinic also sees patients of all ages who have symptoms unrelated to childbirth, while providing facilities for language learning and IT education, and annually training over 6, 000 nursing and midwifery (助产) students, backed by a scholarship program.
Just as Robin said, love is to be found inside the Bumi Schat Bali Clinic. Perhaps feelings of showing kindness toward others and wanting to make the world a better place are the key to a brighter tomorrow.

I recently came in contact with celebrity magazines. My family isn’t one to give money for pictures of skinny, drunk celebrities with paragraphs about their relationships and shopping cart times. Thus, I was excited to finally get a chance to read about other people’s attractive yet troubled lives.
Right away I noticed how each magazine seemed to be a copy of the other. They had headlines and pictures that were almost the same. Still, the pictures of perfectly constructed faces with cute designer outfits going on with their daily lives made me read on.
Wait, celebrities taking their dogs for a walk Spending an afternoon at a park All of these things seemed so ordinary things my own family and I do together often. I suddenly realized how unextraordinary the people in these magazines were. They are simply normal people who happen to have a cool job and much money. For some reason, pictures of them doing things like buying milk at the store appeal to millions of readers. Then, when these regular people mess up, their mistakes are painted onto hundreds of newspapers and Internet sites.
What if every time we made a mistake, it was made public Have you ever failed a test Imagine seeing pictures of you on the front of a newspaper with headlines like, “Regular Schooling Isn’t Enough”. You’d be embarrassed. Now, I’m not necessarily taking the celebrity’s side. I’m more realizing the fact that these people we are crazy about are just ordinary human beings with many photographs following them around. Role models I’d think not. Personally, I’d rather look up to people in any community who have accomplished a lot instead of an ordinary person walking his dog in Berverly Hills.
8.What do we know about the author’s family
A. They admire celebrities very much. B. They are curious about the life of celebrities.
C. They are not interested in celebrities. D. They often buy celebrity magazines.
9.What does the author think of celebrities
A. They live a happy life. B. They seldom do usual things.
C. They attract people’s admiration. D. They are just ordinary people like us.
10.Who is most likely to be the author’s role model
A. Celebrities who live an ordinary life.
B. Extraordinary people who accomplish a lot.
C. Common people who do great things.
D. People who make great contributions to communities.
11.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To show people’s different attitudes towards celebrities.
B. To advise us to have a right attitude towards celebrities.
C. To describe the actual life of celebrities.
D. To ask us to be realistic about others’ mistakes.
Habitat loss, pesticides (农药) and climate change are threatening insect populations worldwide. In 2019, Biological Conservation reported that 40% of all insects species are declining (减少) globally and that a third of them are endangered.
And while it may sound nice to live in a world with fewer bad insects, environmental writer Oliver Milman says that human beings would be in big trouble without insects. That’s because insects play important roles in pollinating (给……授粉) plants we eat, breaking down waste in forest soil and forming the base of a food chain that other larger animals including- humans-rely upon.
“It would be an extremely terrible place to live in—and certainly not something we should ever aim for,” Milman says of an insect free existence. “You would certainly have mass starvation and social unrest…It’d be a place where there would be smelly waste and dead bodies everywhere because insects that break down those materials would be gone. ”
Milman charts the troubling decline of insects in his new book, The Insect Crisis: The Fall of the Tiny Empires That Run the World. He says that while it’s impossible to know exactly what’s happening with every insect species in the world, the overall trends are not good: The butterfly population in North America has declined quickly in the past 40 years, for example, and a U. N. assessment done in 2019 found that half a million insect species are under threat of extinction, some in the coming decades.
“The world, our surroundings, would be far quieter, far duller without insects,” he says. “When you start kind of digging down into these figures looking at the research, it’s clear that there’s something seriously wrong…There is a straight decline in most insect populations, and that spells major trouble for them but also for us.”
12.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about insects
A. Their classification. B. Their importance.
C. Their development. D. Their future.
13.What can be inferred about Milman’s new book
A. It describes the worrying decline of insects.
B. It tells what’s happening with all insect species.
C. It shows half a million butterfly species will be in danger of extinction.
D. It explains why the number of butterflies in South America has increased.
14.What is the author s attitude to the decline of insect population
A. Positive. B. Worried. C. Unconcerned D. Doubtful.
15.What is the text mainly about
A. The introduction of the endangered insects.
B. The ways of increasing insects’ population.
C. The effects of the declining insects’ population.

I could float on my back and look at the sky. I could pretend I was the only person in the world. Mom parked the car beside a small row of other cars. "One at a time," she yelled before the car doors opened. Nobody listened. The car doors all flew open at once. After pushing, yelling and crying, we came out.
I quickly pulled off my jeans, T-shit, socks and shoes, and finally put on my swimsuit. "Yeah! " I yelled as I jumped into the big natural pool with small stones on its floor Cold water struck my face. I put my head under the water, which shot up my nose. After standing up again, I dropped backward into the water and began to float. The water sat around my cars, smooth and silent. The sun warmed my face.
I was like a leaf floating in a large pool peacefully. Everything was silent under water. For the moment, I felt I was the only child there. I didn’t have to share things like snacks with other kids. My stomach made a noise at the thought of food. Hadn’t Mom packed a huge bag of chips for our snack I stood up to walk to shore.

32.答案:①called②shorter③to depend④from⑤totally⑥an⑦disasters⑧were destroyed⑨where⑩discovery
force sb.to do sth. 故填to depend。
be different from是固定短语,意为"和……
a series of后要跟可数名词复数,故填disasters。
故填were destroyed。
33.答案:
How to Live a Green Life
Today, we are faced with severe environmental problems, which deserve our attention. As students, there are plenty of things we can do to live a green life.
Above all, it’s important to change our bad living habits. For example, don’t leave the tap running while brushing our teeth or leave the house with the lights still on. What’s more, we’d better cycle or use public transport to school instead of taking a car, thus reducing air pollution and relieving traffic jams. Finally, get rid of plastic bags. Instead, bring your own bags or baskets. It’s also a good idea to avoid the use of disposable chopsticks or cups when eating out.
All in all, it’s high time that we should take immediate action. Only when we live a green life can we make a difference to saving our planet.

The water closed over my head again. I struggled to move both my hands and legs. I thought about my mom. What would she do if she couldn’t find me What about my brothers and sisters When thinking, I didn’t know the noise produced by my hands and legs’ moving attracted my brothers and sisters’ attention. Before long, I felt the water moving around me. Something warm and strong touched my hand. Was it a shark in the pool No, it was someone’s hand.
I could feel my body moving upward as a familiar hand started to pull me through the water. It pulled until I could feel the ground under my feet, and I came onto the shore. “We did it! ” yelled one of my brothers as I looked up and saw my mother holding my hand. I learned she and other kids made a human chain so that she could get me. I was speechless. Kids ran all around me, jumping, running and screaming. Maybe this great big crazy family wasn’t so crazy. After all, they were the human chain. Because of them, I was out of danger.
