Dear Zhang Hong,
Thanks for inviting me to your hometown. I’m very happy to spend New Year’s Day there. I know both in the city and in the country, people’s life is getting better and better. However, there are some differences.
Some people like living in our city, because city life has many advantages. They think there are Wanda plaza and Wuyue cinema. Xijin ferry and Jinshan park are good places to relax. Nanshan green road is wide and clean. There are good restaurants to taste the food. Old people can also do square dancing. The transportation is very convenient.
But I prefer to live in the countryside. The life in the countryside is closer to nature and better for my health. The air is fresh there. I can pick strawberries and vegetables myself. Flowers and birds were everywhere. The neighbors are very friendly, and I can visit them freely. You don’t have to worry about safety when you ride your own bike because there are few cars on the road. But it is not convenient for people to do square dancing because there is no suitable place. I hope the government can help solve this problem.
I’m looking forward to meeting you soon!
Many thanks,
Li Mei

Passage 2
Reading should be part of your life. But the problem is that there’s too much to read these days and too little time to read every word of it. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more quickly. Here are two skills that I think are very good.
Preview—if it’s long and hard. Previewing is very useful for getting a general (总的) idea of heavy reading like long magazine articles and reports. You can read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully, and then you can only read the first sentence of the other paragraphs (段落).
Skim—if it’s short and easy. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading like popular magazines or the sports, stars and movies of your daily paper.
While skimming, get your eyes to move fast and sweep them across each line. You can pick up only a few key words in each line. Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same news, but usually we won’t get very different ideas of what it is all about.
25.What should you do if you want to read a long article quickly
A.Read every word of it.
B.Read all the paragraphs.
C.Pick up a few key words in each line.
D.Read the first two and the last two paragraphs carefully.
26.The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to (指) _______.
A.skimming B.previewing C.the words D.the news
27.If you read a simple (简单的) article, which reading skill is better to get the general idea
A.Previewing. B.Skimming.
C.Reading carefully. D.Sweeping each word.
28.The best title (标题) for the passage may be “_______”.
A.Reading is part of life B.Previewing and skimming
C.Reading problems D.Reading skills

The Zhongshan Eye Center at the Sun Yat-sen University has achieved a milestone in the field of eye surgery (手术). Doctors there completed the world’s first remote(远程的) micron (纳米的) operation on animals by using an independently developed 5G robot. The operation, which took place on June 23 at the center in Guangzhou, was done by a medical team operating the robot from the Zhongshan Eye Center in Haikou.
The main part of the robot is a special arm that makes accurate(精准的) remote control possible. When it comes to treating eye problems, the common way is to put medicine directly into the eye area which needs treatment. But doctors’ hands shake naturally, making it difficult to be very accurate. The robot can copy tasks usually done by hand, and it performs them steadily (稳定地) and accurately. Another advantage is that even young doctors can perform eye surgery with 5G robot’s help. According to Professor Lin, the leader of the medical team, becoming a skilled eye doctor takes at least 10 years of practice. However, with the help of the robot, young doctors can achieve a high level of accuracy comparable to experienced doctors. The third important point is that using 5G makes it possible for doctors to treat patients far away. Eye doctors can get clear and timely pictures, which makes remote operations dependable.
Still, it’s important to remember that while this technology is promising, more research and tests are needed to make sure it’s safe and works well for patients. “If everything goes well, 5G remote micron eye surgery will be available to humans within half a year,” Lin said. The team will keep working hard to help develop remote medicine in China and increase national medical levels.
61.How did doctors in the Zhongshan Eye Center complete the operation
62.What is the main part of the robot
63.When will 5G remote micron eye surgery be probably available to humans
64.When 5G remote micron eye surgery is available, would you like to advise your friends who need eye surgery to try it Why or why not (Write at least 30 words.)

Last Sunday I saw the worst storm in years. It came suddenly and went on for three hours. After lunch, I went into my room and had a rest. The air was hot. All was quiet. Then strong wind started blowing into my room. Pieces of paper on my desk flew high into the air and some flew out of the open window. As I ran to catch them, big drops of rain began to fall. When I came back into my house, it was raining harder and harder. I managed to close the window, then I heard a loud sound from the back of the house. I ran out of my room to find out what had happened: A big tree had fallen down and broken the top of the backroom.

Passage 2
(2022上·湖南郴州·九年级校联考期末) Reading should be part of your life.

51.who/that 52.passed 53.best 54.unusual 55.sadly
56.noticing 57.as 58.to be 59.were discovered 60.a
根据“During the Tang Dynasty (618—907), Emperor Taizong asked the prime minister Feng Deyi to recommend (举荐) people...were talented.”

(2023上·北京海淀·九年级统考期中)The Zhongshan Eye Center at the Sun Yat-sen University has achieved a milestone in the field of eye surgery (手术).
61.By using an independently developed 5G robot./ The operation was done by a medical team operating the robot from the Zhongshan Eye Center in Haikou. 62.It is a special arm (that makes accurate remote control possible). 63.Within half a year. 64.
Possible version 1: Yes, I’d like to. It is more accurate than the common way and since even the young doctors can perform eye surgery with 5G robot’s help, it is more convenient for us to have an eye surgery without waiting for too long.
Possible version 2: No. Although this technology is promising, I am not sure if it is safe enough for people. Besides, maybe it will cost more money as it is a new technology with 5G robot’s help.

Possible version 1: Yes, I’d like to. It is more accurate than the common way and since even the young doctors can perform eye surgery with 5G robot’s help, it is more convenient for us to have an eye surgery without waiting for too long.
Many thanks,
Li Mei
