Some of you may play Ant Forest. It is a game on Alipay. Users collect “energy” to make their “trees” grow. When the “energy” reaches a certain level, some organizations and companies will plant a real tree in a desert area of China. And now it seems that the nation’s efforts as a whole to make a greener world have paid off.
According to a study by NASA and published in the journal(杂志) Nature Sustainability in February, China and India are mainly responsible for making the Earth greener over the past twenty years. The study has found that since 2000 the Earth’s green leaf area has increased by 5 percent(百分之……), or over 5 million square kilometers. That’s an area equivalent(等同于) to the total area of the Amazon rainforest. It is mainly the result of big tree planting programs in China and intensive(精耕细作的) agriculture(农业) in both countries, according to NASA.“China and India account for(占比) one third of the increased greening but contain(包含) only 9 percent of the planets land area covered in vegetation(植被).” Chi Chen, the study’s lead author and a researcher at Boston University, US, told CNN. China was the major contributor(贡献者), adding 25 percent to this increase, while India added 6.8 percent.
Over the past 40 years, China has made great efforts to green the land. In 1978, China began a national-level forestation project—the Three North Shelterbelt Forest Program, also known as the “Great Green Wall”. The program has seen many trees planted in northern China to act as windbreaks, according to China Daily. By the end of 2017, the forest coverage rate(率) among the places of the project had reached 13.57 percent, compared to 5.05 percent 40 years ago.
For example, Kubuqi Desert, which is near the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia, is the seventh largest in the country. It was once the source(来源) of sandstorms in Beijing. But thanks to forestation efforts, about one third of Kubuqi Desert is now covered with trees, and sandstorms are less common, reported Xinhua News Agency.
In the light of China’s success in dealing with desertification, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) believes China is a good example for others to follow. “China is one of the most successful countries in greening the desert and has lessons to share with the world.” UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim told Xinhua.

As computers become more popular in China, Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes (笔画) of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand more or type more In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as primary school. And computer dependence is more wide-spread among university students. Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer. It’s faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that’s why computers are being applied more and more often to modem education.
“When I’m writing with a pen, I find I often can’t remember how to write a character, though I feel I’m familiar with it.”
“I’m not in the mood(情绪,心情) to write when faced with a pen and paper.” Many students don’t feel this is something to worry about. Now that it’s more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite
Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital, said, “Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer’s emotion. Through one’s handwriting, people can get to know one’s thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.
30. The students interviewed prefer to write using a computer mainly because ________.
A. they are usually asked to e-mail their homework and essays

B. The Value of Chinese Characters

Although we may not have the ability to paint the Mona Lisa, create music like Mozart, or write novels like Hemingway, everyone is born with a special ability — creativity (创造力). Some people can find and learn to show it early, while others might discover it later in life. We are all creative, and we need to create as much as we need to eat, breathe and sleep. Creativity has different meanings for different people, but unluckily a lot of things may stifle the development of it. And the importance of creativity is not valued as much as it should be. However, it has a powerful effect (影响) on one’s overall ability to get true happiness and success in life. If we stifle our creativity or lower its importance, we may create blockages (阻碍) in other parts of life. This can stop us from improving things like health, work and personal relationships.
No matter how busy one is, it is very important to leave some time to develop creativity. Trying out different hobbies is a great way to discover one’s creativity because it can be very enjoyable. Some people find one hobby and fall deeply in love with it. Some people prefer to try different hobbies for short time, or change them up each season to stay interested and keep trying different things.
One great thing about a hobby is that there are no set rules. Each person gets to decide how often they want to do it and whether they want to keep it for a long time or move on to something else after trying it for a few weeks or months.
Another cool thing about hobbies is that one can enjoy them quietly when spending some free time alone, or as a way to fit in a community (集体). Book clubs, art or cooking classes, gardening clubs — nearly every type of hobby offers a chance to meet with other people with the same interest and build relationships. This could be helpful on both a personal and a professional (专业的) level. Hobbies can be a great way to create a community among co-workers. Sometimes if co-workers are not getting along, having them take part in a seemingly non-work-related hobby can be great for creating common ground.
Usually, the simple act of developing hobbies can provide a chance for a person to find and show his or her creativity, which will produce great active changes. When people experience something as simple and great as creating something beautiful through hobbies, they begin to look at the world — and daily environments — in a fresh, new way.
30. From the passage, we can know ________.
A. we are all born with creativity B. creativity comes from happiness
C. people usually value creativity very much D. creativity means the same thing to everyone
31. The underlined word “stifle” in Paragraph 1 probably means “________”.
A. improve B. produce C. stop D. lose
32. What’s Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. There are no set rules to develop creativity.
B. Trying different hobbies has lots of advantages.
C. It’s enjoyable to try different hobbies at different time.
D. We can develop creativity by trying different hobbies.
33. The writer probably agrees that ________.
A. taking up simple hobbies won’t change people’s lives
B. creativity can help people to look at the world actively
C. it’s better to have a long-time hobby than find a new one
D. enjoying a hobby alone can help fit in a community well

“Click!” That’s the sound of safety. That’s the sound of survival. That’s the sound of a seat belt locking in place. Seat belts save lives and that’s a fact. That’s why I must wear the seat belt at once when I get into a car. It’s a choice between life and death. Which one do you choose
Think about it. When you’re driving in a car at the speed of 60 MPH or faster, then somebody ahead of you brakes (刹车). Your driver doesn’t have time to stop. Now it has suddenly stopped. Your body, however, is still going 60 MPH. Will it be the windshield or your seat belt to stop your body Every time that you get into a car, you make that choice. I choose the seat belt.
Some people think that seat belts are uncool. They think that seat belts make them feel that they cannot behave in the way they want, or are uncomfortable. To them I say, what’s more uncomfortable Wearing a seat belt or flying through a car windshield What’s more uncool Being safe in a car, or lying on the road So wearing a seat belt is both cooler and more comfortable.
Let’s just take a closer look at your choices. If you are not wearing your seat belt, you can move around in the car easily. That sounds like a lot of fun. But, you are also more likely to die or suffer serious injuries. If you are wearing a seat belt, you have to stay in your seat. That’s no fun. But, you are much more likely to walk away unharmed from a car accident. Hmmm... A small pleasure or a serious pain, I think I’ll avoid the serious pain.
Do you like to give your money away Probably not. But when you don’t have a seat belt on, you have to give money to the city, because the law requires people in car to wear seat belts.
Wearing a seat belt does not make you invincible (坚不可摧的). You can still get hurt or killed while you’re wearing your seat belt. But wearing them has proven to be safer than driving without them. So why not take the safer way You do want to live, don’t you
