Searching online for the answer may get you a better grade on the homework. But it won't help you learn. Guessing is a better way to learn, a new study says.
Armold Glass found this from analyzing(分析) homework and the grades on his students' tests from 2008 to 2017. For many years, students had done best on the exam. But by the late 2010s, many students were doing more poorly on the exam than on the homework. In 2008, most students performed better on their homework than on the exam. But by 2017, more than half of the students performed this way.
Glass wondered, "How could it be " So he thought about it for those years. One big thing was the rise of smartphones. They were not common in 2008. But now almost everyone has one. So it would be easier and faster to find the answer to any homework question online. But students can't use phones during an exam.
