When I checked into my hotel in Kaanapali, Maui, I was asked what brought me to the island. I told the employees at the front desk that I was writing a story about how to be a respectful tourist in Hawaii. One of the staff members nodded with a significant smile and said he thought tourists really have to be responsible.
What exactly does “responsible" mean The state's tourism board has created a program so that it's easier for tourists to figure it out — and act accordingly. The Malama Hawaii Program is, on its surface, classic voluntourism. Visitors spend a day cleaning a beach, say, in exchange for a free night's stay at their hotel. But there are a number of experiences that focus on cultural stewardship (管理),and it’s that kind of responsibility and respect that Native Hawaiians are increasingly looking for.
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation offers one of these experiences. Tourists can volunteer to help the foundation with its archives (档案).The three-hour experience includes working with staff to describe historical documents and measuring artifacts(手工艺品), and a tailored tour of one of the foundation's sites or museums.
Kalapana Kollars, the foundation's cultural programs director, says he is seeing increased interest from tourists in the island's cultural history. “That doesn't mean that there aren't other people that come here just to enjoy the weather,” he says. “But when someone comes through our door to join us here it's a purposeful search.”
The experience runs just twice a week, which is intentional. Kollars says: “We haven't scaled up (扩大规模) that much. We like our connection to be really high grade instead of touching a lot of people very lightly.”
Micah Kamohoali'i is a cultural ambassador. For the past 10 years he's been working with the island's tourism board to better reflect Native Hawaiian culture and traditions.
Since, the tourism board has cooperated with Native Hawaiians to develop the experiences available to visitors and the stories shared. “I think it completely changed the face of our tourism," Kamohoali'i says. “Now we're actually proud of it. We can have people learn about our island in a responsible way.”
24. Why did the author go to Hawaii
A. To take part in a cultural program. B. To find inspiration for her writing.
C. To visit her friends. D. To take a holiday.
25.How can tourists get a free hotel stay after joining the Malama Hawaii Program
A. By cleaning beaches. B. By taking photos for artworks.
C. By sorting historical documents. D. By serving as a cultural ambassador.
26. What does Kollars expect of the experience offered by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation
A. It can be more accessible to tourists.
B. It can attract more tourists to the island.
C. It can offer a wider range of activities to tourists.
D. It can help tourists go deeper into the island's culture.
27. What does Kamohoali' i think of the effort made by the island's tourism board
A. It is inspiring. B. It is ambitious.
C. It is successful. D. It is pioneering.

Parenting techniques may have long lasting consequences for behavior---even when it comes to dogs.
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania studied the early development, parenting and the following performance of 98 puppies who underwent guide dog training. Dogs who received more independence and less support from their mothers were more likely to be successful in becoming a guide dog. The study was published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Mom-pup interactions were used to define how highly involved the puppy's mothers were. Puppies raised with highly involved mothers were more likely to be released---or dropped out from the guide dog program- compared to those with less attentive mothers.
“Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing," said lead study researcher Emily Bray. Although the study couldn't definitely point to what was driving this effect," one possibility is that the dogs that are having overbearing (专横的) mothers are never given the chance to deal with small challenges on their own, and is harmful to their later behavior and outcome in their problem solving. Another possibility is that the puppies for whom the mothers are always around are also the most anxious or stressed," she explained.
“What I was happy about was that there is a study being done about early life experiences in dogs," another researcher Dolores Holle said. "If the mom is trying to protect her pups against small challenges, then they will not be suited for the big challenges."
The study included three breeds(品种): German shepherds, Labrador retrievers and Golden retrievers. The puppies were followed from the first weeks of life for several years. Interestingly, Labrador retrievers tended to wash out from the program, while Golden retrievers tended to succeed.
As for whether the findings can be applied to human babies of so-called "helicopter parents," Bray was hesitant.
“I think people can draw parallels (相似之处), but I think you also have to be careful because they are different species," she said.
She added, "The nice thing about dogs is that they are a lot less complicated than humans."
28. What makes successful guide dogs according to the study
A. Less attentive owners. B. More practical training.
C. Less supportive mothers. D. More tense environment.
29. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. The necessity of mom-pup interactions.
B. Some characteristics of good guide dogs.
C. The significance of high parental involvement.
D. Potential causes of some puppies' poor performance.
30. What can we know about Labrador retrievers in the study
A. They choose to stay. B. They fail to be qualified.
C. They rise to challenges. D. They are easy to notice.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Parenting techniques can apply to guide dogs
B. Guide dogs are less complicated than humans
C. Researchers help raise public awareness of blind people
D. A study is done about early life experiences of human babies
D
A recent survey found children would rather be online influencers than astronauts. It made headlines and led to plenty of complaints about “kids these days”. Is influencing a promising career path The lifestyles we see advertised on social media are enticing, but under the shining appearance lie uncertain income, pay inequality, disability and mental and physical health issues.
Successful influencers will be the first to claim that anyone can make it in the industry. However, social media economy experts uncovered a huge income gap between successful influencers and everyone else. For most people trying to become an influencer, their passion projects of content creation often become free work for brands.
Most influencers are self-employed. often experiencing inconsistent income and a lack of protection that comes with long-term employment. The risks of self-employment are increased in the influencer industry by an absence of industry standards and little pay transparency(透明度).Influencers are often forced to assess their own value and determine fees for their work. As a result, content creators often undervalue their own creative labour, and many end up working for free.
Influencers are also often at the mercy of algorithms(任由算法摆布)— the behind-the-scenes computer programs that determine which posts are shown, in which order, to users. Platforms (平台) share little detail about their algorithms, yet they finally determine who and what gains visibility and influence on social media. The threat of invisibility is a constant source of insecurity for influencers, who are under constant pressure to feed platforms with content. If they don't, they may be “punished" by the algorithm—having posts hidden or displayed lower down on search results.
Constant online presence leads to one of the most common issues in the influencer industry: mental health concerns. Influencers can connect to their platform workspaces and audience at any time of day or night, which can lead to them overworking, coupled with the fear of online criticism, it contributes to mental and physical health issues.
Although becoming an influencer may look appealing to more and more people, the industry’s dark underside needs to be made visible and improved through enhanced employment regulation and industry-led cultural change.
32.What does the underlined word “enticing" in paragraph 1 mean
A. Imaginative. B. Similar. C. Traditional. D. Attractive.
33. What might lead to many influencers undervaluing their creative work
A. Their belief in winning through quantity.
B. Money paid by the industry is often hidden.
C. Their eagerness to make their work visible online.
D. There' re few employment opportunities in the industry.
34.Why do the influencers feel stressed according to paragraph 4
A. They are often punished by platforms.
B. They have little knowledge of platform algorithms.
C. They find it difficult to create new content constantly.
D. They have to work out the order of posts to be displayed.
35.What is the author's purpose in writing this text
A. To describe the life of self-employed content creators.
B. To stress the importance of visibility in the online world.
C. To show the dark side of working as an online content creator.
D. To reveal relationships between platforms and influencers.

My dad, George, only had an eighth-grade education. A quiet man, he didn't understand my world of school activities. From age 14, he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.
I didn't really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and l thought that I would surpass(超过)anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.
Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone(长号).The summer before my eighth grade l was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed which we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs, lamb's-quarters, foxtails, and the king o1weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn't sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, “A job's a big step to growing up. I'm glad you will be contributing to the household.” My dad's words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work but I wasn't interested. I decided it was not fair that l had to contribute my money.

Getting to Know the Plants Around Us
Last weekend witnessed an extraordinary activity named Getting to Know the Plants Around held by the school student union. Initially, we entered the forest to study varieties of plants. What wonderful views! Under the teachers’ guidance, we learned some rare plants and understood the importance of protecting them.
It was such a meaningful and splendid activity that it sparked a great response among students. Our passion for plants and awareness of environmental protection have been greatly strengthened. It was the informative activity that deepened our insights into abundant plants.
第二节:
The pay day arrived at last. Although the job was very tiring, I was very happy in my heart for I got something from my work. The toil of labor was forgotten for the time being. I thought I should have my own money and planned how to spend it. “How much money have you earned ” Dad asked. I was surprised, reluctant to say my income. The next morning, my dad’s livestock truck started running. I saw my father’s hard-working figure and thought of his words “A job’s a big step to growing up”.
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. They were worried that I was too selfish to give. I realized that my labor was very hard, but my growth and our whole family had been depending on the hard work of my parents! Dad never complained about unfairness! He even seemed to think that was fair. I thought, “I’ve only worked for two weeks, but how many years my father has worked!” In the evening, Dad came back. I proudly took out my own money and handed it to Dad.
