French writer Annie Ernaux won the 2022 Nobel Prize in literature on Oct 6. She is the first French female to win the prize.
In the words of the Nobel committee, Ernaux was given the award “for the courage and clinical acuity (敏锐的洞察力) of her writing”. Having spent over 50 years as a writer, the 82-year-old winner has published more than 20 books. Rather than consider herself a writer of fiction, Ernaux has used the term “an ethnologist (民族学者) of herself”.
Born in 1940 in a village in Normandy, France, Ernaux grew up in a working-class environment. Her parents ran a combined grocery store and cafe. She worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer.
Two books by other French writers inspired her to be a writer: The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir and Distinction by Pierre Bourdieu. The former led her to write about feminism, and the latter raised her awareness of the huge gap between her and the environment she grew up in. Besides her reading influences, her “upbringing and experiences navigating adolescence and adulthood” also inspire many of her works, noted CNN.
Though the matters Ernaux describes in her books are serious and even sometimes heavy, they are always written in plain language. Ernaux described her style as “flat writing” through which she aims to tell her stories objectively, “unshaped by florid (过多修饰的) description or overwhelming emotions”, noted Fox News.
“She writes about things that no one else writes about, for instance her jealousy, her experiences as an abandoned lover and so forth. I mean, really hard experiences.” Anders Olsson, chairman of the Nobel Committee for Literature, said after the award announcement in Stockholm.

Sam is a fourth-year student at Harvard Medical School, but poetry is still a big part of his life, now with a new teacher,Rafael Campo, who believes poetry can benefit every doctor’s education and work. Rafael is a physician, professor and a highly respected poet.
“Poetry is in every encounter(邂逅)with my patients. I think healing is really in a very great way about poetry. And if we do anything when we’re with our patients,we’re really immersing(使沉浸于)ourselves in their stories, really hearing their voices. And,certainly, that’s what a poem does,”he said.
Rafael worries that something important has been lost in medicine and medical education today:humanity, which he finds in poetry. To end that,he leads a weekly reading and writing workshop for medical students and residents(住院医生).
He thinks medical training focuses too much on distancing the doctor from his or her patients, and poems can help close that gap.
Third-year resident Andrea Schwartz was one of the workshop regulars. She said. “I think there’s no other profession other than medicine that produces as many writers as it does. And I think that is because there’s just so much power in doctors and patients interacting when patients are at their saddest. ”Not everyone believes that’s what doctors should do,though.
Rafael said,“I was afraid of how people might judge me,actually. In the medical profession,as many people know,we must always put the emergency first. But,you know, that kind of treatment,if it’s happening in the hospital, very regrettably, sadly, results in a bad outcome. The family is sitting by the bedside. The patient hasn’t survived the cancer. Don’t we still have a role as healers there ”
In a poem titled“Health”,Rafael writes of the wish to live forever in a world made painless by our incurable joy. He says he will continue teaching students, helping patients and writing poems, his own brand of medicine.
8. What do we know about Rafael Campo
A. He works as a doctor. B. He is under medical care.
C He is a literature professor. D. He knows little about poetry.
9. What does the author try to show in Paragraph 2
A. The importance of medical training.
B. The effect of poetry in medical treatment.
C. The similarity involved in poetry and medical work.
D. The present relationship between patients and doctors.
10. What does Andrea Schwaflz think of poetry
A. It comforts patients’family.
B. It contributes to medical work.
C. It has nothing to do with doctors.
D. It keeps doctors away from patients.
11. What is Rafael Campo’s view on poetry
A. It requires a lot of spare time.
B. It can provide a useful tool for doctors.
C. It has little effect on patients’conditions.
D. It should be included in emergency treatments.

Do you like Chinese traditional painting and dance They are two important parts of the traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》), created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18. The painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported by CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: mountains and groupings of infinite (无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (涟漪的) water.
When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows have featured Chinese traditional culture and received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese culture and are proud of it,” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told China Daily.
12. What’s the writing purpose of paragraph 1
A. To raise a question. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To describe the art world. D. To show a doubtful thought.
13. What pushed the poetic dance
A. CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala. B. A Chinese blue-green landscape.
C. Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng. D. An old Chinese traditional painting.
14. Why did this poetic dance enjoy welcome
A. Traditional culture is accepted and loved by people.
B. Green mountains and rivers greatly impress people.
C. The poetic dance can be staged in the theaters later.
D. Increasing modern shows feature Chinese traditional culture.
15. What’s the main idea of the whole text
A. It explains why Chinese art enjoys popularity.
B. It shows us art can come to life through dance.
C. It highlights the beauty of Chinese traditional art.
D. It tells us the love for Chinese traditional painting.

When it comes to comfort, most travelers would pick trains over planes any day. Trains usually offer more leg and elbow room than airplanes. Besides, there are no seat belt signs to keep you from getting up and moving around. And yet, being stuck in a seat for hours on end means long train rides can still be challenging on the body and mind.___16___
If budget permits upgrading your seat is perhaps the most important thing you can do to make a long train ride more comfortable.___17___ Therefore, you can lie down on overnight rides, or a first-class or business-class seat instead of a spot in coach to land yourself more legroom and a footrest.
A tablet (平板电脑) stocked with books, movies, and music can be a lifesaver on long train rides. However, you’ll need a plan for keeping it charged. ___18___ Make sure you have the right adapter for your charger if you’re traveling in a foreign country. Consider bringing along some low-tech forms of entertainment, too, like travel games or even a simple pack of cards.

Part of the appeal of traveling by train is watching a variety of landscapes slip by outside your window, but once darkness falls — or if you simply need a nap — you might want to escape from the outside world for a while.___20___
A. No two train rides are made alike.
B. Some trains have power ports at every seat.

“Mary! Come and see what I have brought home!” My father opened the door and shouted cheerfully.
“Is it a dog ” I asked when I saw him hugging a huge creature in his arms.
My father nodded and put the dog on the floor. When it ran toward me, I pressed my hands tightly over my mouth to hold back a scream. I turned around and rushed back to my room. I locked up the door as soon as I could.
Since I was attacked by a wild dog two months ago, I had been living in constant fear of dogs. I was confused why my father was so happy to bring home such a scary thing. So I decided to stay in my room until the dog was gone. After what seemed like ages, I heard the door open and shut.
“Finally!” I breathed in relief and opened the door cautiously.
To my shock, I felt something wet touching my foot. It was the dog! I froze there, as if my feet were rooted to the ground. When I regained my senses, I screamed, “Daddy! It is the dog! Help! It wants to bite me! Get it away from me!”
My father was standing by the other side of the door, folding his arms and encouraged me,“It is not going to eat you! Mary, don’t be so scared. Go on! Touch it!”
I tried my best to control my fear and bent down to touch the dog. But I could not do it due to my constant and uncontrollable shaking.
“Never! I will never touch that dirty thing! Take it away!” I shouted.
My father turned a deaf ear to my request. In despair, I picked up a tennis ball that happened to be on the floor and threw it at the dog.

Ernaux described her style as “flat writing” through which she aims to tell her stories objectively, “unshaped by florid (过多修饰) description or overwhelming emotions”, noted Fox News.

This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.

If budget permits, upgrading your seat is perhaps the most important thing you can do to make a long train ride more comfortable.___17___ Therefore, you can lie down on overnight rides, or a first-class or business-class seat instead of a spot in coach to land yourself more legroom and a footrest.
A tablet (平板电脑) stocked with books movies, and music can be a lifesaver on long train rides. However, you’ll need a plan for keeping it charged. ___18___ Make sure you have the right adapter for your charger if you’re traveling in a foreign country. 【导语】本文是说明文。介绍了更舒适的坐长途火车的方法。
【16题详解】
根据前文“When it comes to comfort, most travelers would pick trains over planes any day. Trains usually offer more leg and elbow room than airplanes. Besides, there are no seat belt signs to keep you from getting up and moving around. And yet, being stuck in a seat for hours on end means long train rides can still be challenging on the body and mind.(说到舒适,大多数旅行者无论如何都会选择火车而不是飞机。
根据前文“If budget permits, upgrading your seat is perhaps the most important thing you can do to make a long train ride more comfortable.(如果预算允许,升级你的座位可能是你能做的最重要的事情,让长途火车旅行更舒适)”以及后文“Therefore, you can lie down on overnight rides, or a first-class or business-class seat instead of a spot in coach to land yourself more legroom and a footrest.(因此,你可以躺在火车上过夜,或者躺在头等舱或商务舱的座位上,而不是在经济舱的一个位置上,这样你就有了更多的腿部空间和脚凳)”可知,C项“That might mean booking a sleeper cabin instead of a seat.(这可能意味着预订卧铺而不是硬座)”是对前文的进一步说明,并和后文构成因果关系,符合文意。故选C项。
【18题详解】
根据前文“A tablet (平板电脑) stocked with books, movies, and music can be a lifesaver on long train rides. However, you’ll need a plan for keeping it charged.(一个装有书籍、电影和音乐的平板电脑可以成为长途火车旅行的救星。然而,你需要一个保持充电的计划)”可知,此处主要讲述了保持自己的平板有电,所以B项“Some trains have power ports at every seat.(有些火车在每个座位上都有电源接口)”符合本段主题,以及引出后文“Make sure you have the right adapter for your charger if you’re traveling in a foreign country.(如果你在国外旅行,请确保你有合适的充电器适配器)”。故选B项。
【19题详解】
分析设空,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“Similarly, window seats on trains appeal to train riders. After all, you’re even more likely to have scenery worth seeing out the windows of a train.(同样,火车上靠窗的座位对火车乘客也很有吸引力。毕竟,火车窗外的风景更值得一看)”可知,本段主要讲述了靠窗位置对乘客很有吸引力,所以G项“Window seats on planes are popular with travelers who like to enjoy the views.(飞机上靠窗的座位很受喜欢欣赏风景的旅客的欢迎)”符合本段主题,可作为本段中心句。故选G项。
【20题详解】
分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Part of the appeal of traveling by train is watching a variety of landscapes slip by outside your window, but once darkness falls — or if you simply need a nap — you might want to escape from the outside world for a while.(坐火车旅行的部分吸引力在于看着窗外各种各样的风景,但是一旦夜幕降临——或者如果你只是需要小睡一下——你可能想要逃离外面的世界一段时间)”可知,E项“Noise-free headphones are a good choice if you like to fall asleep to music.(如果你喜欢在音乐中入睡,无噪音耳机是一个不错的选择)”符合本段主题,讲述在火车上睡觉的方法。故选E项。

Campus Sports Day
One of the most memorable sports meeting I remember is what happened on 10th October last year, on which day, the sun shone brightly in the blue sky and the whole school was alive.
Campus Sports Day is held annually in our school to keep students active and fit. Last year, more than 300 students from different classes took part in different events. Fortunately, I was involved as a volunteer. Other students watched from the stands.
The sports day began with an inspiring speech by our school principal, Mr White. Then, the students from each class participated in all the events such as the long jump and the 100 metres race. After lunch, there were some basketball matches. Finally, the teachers gave out prizes to the students. Class one Grade Nine got the most gold medals. Everyone agreed that the sports day was a great success, and were eager to talk about the next sports day!

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The ball missed the target. Instead, it rolled across the living room. The dog ran excitedly after the ball and brought it back to me. When it put the ball beside my feet and looked up at me with a big smile on its face, my heart somehow softened. I reached out and tried to touch it. Obviously encouraged by my friendlier reaction, the dog started rubbing its body against one of my legs.
But the next moment I was reminded of the awful experience. My hand stopped in the middle way. It seemed that the dog understood what I was thinking about. It lay down at my feet and appeared so sad that I forced myself to touch its fur, which the dog seemed to be quite enjoying. Since then I have overcome my fear and we have become the best friends. It followed me everywhere and drove away any unfriendly dogs as a faithful bodyguard.
