Do you like Chinese traditional painting and dance They are two important parts of the traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting(《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: “mountains and groupings of infinite(无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling(涟漪的)water”.
When the dancers moved elegantly (优美地), audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modem shows feature Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.

Sugarcane(甘蔗) contains around 10% sugar. But that means it contains around 90% non-sugar―the material known as bagasse(甘蔗渣) which remains once the sugar-bearing juice has been squeezed out of the cane. World production of cane sugar was 185m tonnes in 2017. That results in a lot of bagasse.
At the moment, most of this is burned. Often, it fuels local generators, so it is not wasted. But Zhu Hongli, a mechanical engineer at Northeastern University in Boston thinks it can be put to better use. “With a bit of improvement bagasse makes an excellent replacement for the plastic used for disposable food containers such as coffee cups,” says Dr. Zhu.
Dr. Zhu is not the first person to have this idea. But previous attempts tended not to survive contact with liquids. She thoughts he could overcome that by combining the bagasse pulp (浆状物) with another biodegradable(可生物降解的) material. She discovered that the main reason past efforts failed is that bagasse is composed of short fibres which are unable to give resilience (韧性) to the finished product. She therefore sought to insert a suitably long-fibred substance.
Bamboo seemed to fit the bill. It grows quickly, degrades readily and has appropriately long fibres. When the researchers mixed a small amount of bamboo pulp into bagasse, they found that the short and long fibres combined with each other closely.
To put their new material through it spaces, Dr. Zhu and her colleagues fist poured hot oil onto it and found that their invention showed resistance to oil. They also found that when they made a cup out of the stuff and filled it with water heated almost to the boiling point, the cup remained good for more than two hours. Though this is not as long as a plastic up would last this long enough for all practical purposes Moreover the new material is twice as strong as the plastic used to make cups, and is definitely biodegradable. When Dr. Zhu buried a cup made out of it in the ground, half of it rotted away with in two months.
28. What does paragraph 1 mainly talk about
A. A big international market for cane sugar.
B. A plant containing a high content of sugar.
C. The large amount of world bagasse production.
D. The environmental impact of planting sugar cane.
29. What was wrong with previous bagasse products
A. They broke easily when wet. B. They were non-biodegradable.
C. They consumed little bagasse. D. They had too much resilience.
30. What does the underlined part “fit the bill” in paragraph 4mean
A. Avoid the attempts. B. Meet the requirements.
C. Fill the vacancy. D. Survive the environment.
31. What do we know about the cup invented by Dr Zhu’s team
A. It can satisfy basic usage needs. B. It is hardly as strong as plastic cups.
C. It can disappear in two months if buried. D. It is unlikely to be used as an oil container.

The sunflower sea star has been listed as a critically endangered species following a groundbreaking population study led by Oregon State University(OSU) and The Nature Conservancy,
“These giant sea stars used to be easy to find and were a hit with divers. Unfortunately, your chances of finding one now are next to nothing in most of the areas near the United States—this listing is one step to extinction and I don’t think they’re coming back without help,” said OSU’s Sarah Gravem, a research associate in the College of Science and the lead author of the study.
Populations of the sunflower sea star suffered dramatic crashes because of a marine(海洋的)wildlife epidemic event, which began in 2013.Scientists used more than 61, 000 population surveys from 31 datasets to calculate a 90.6% decline in the sunflower sea stars and estimated that as many as 5.75 billion animals died from the disease, whose cause has not been determined. Moreover, the research showed no sign of population recovery in any region in the five to seven years since the event.
Sunflower sea stars area key catcher of purple sea urchins(海胆) and the sea star decline has helped the increase in the urchin population in many regions. Too many urchins are linked to a decline in kelp forests (海藻林) already facing pressure from marine heat wave events, making the future uncertain for ecosystems that provide habitat for thousands of marine animals and help support coastal economies.
“Because most people are not out in the ocean every day, we don’t realize how much its being changed and impacted by humans. We need to think about how to keep our ocean healthy.
While reducing the release of carbon dioxide is the most pressing need, rebuilding key catcher populations, like the sunflower sea star, can be an important piece of the puzzle too,” said study co-author Sara Hamilton, a Ph. D. candidate in the OSU College of Science.
32. What can we infer about sunflower sea stars from Sarah Gravem’s words
A. They present a danger to divers.
B. They cannot recover on their own.
C. They cannot adapt to the new environment.
D. They attract many tourists to the United States.
33. What led to the sharp decline in the number of sunflower sea stars
A. Human beings’ overfishing. B. The a rival of a new species.
C. The rising ocean temperature. D. The occurrence of a marine disease
34. What is the relationship between sunflower sea stars and these a kelp forests
A. Their common enemies are sea urchins.
B. Sunflower sea stars feed on these a keep forests.
C. Sunflower sea stars help preserve these a kelp forests.
D. These a kelp forests provide habitats for sunflower sea stars.
35. What might Sara Hamilton agree with
A. More species should be introduced to the ocean.
B. Scientists play the most important role in protecting the ocean.
C. The influence of human activities on the ocean has decreased since 2013.
D. More action should be taken to increase the number of sunflower sea stars.

Gardens are some of the most beautiful places on earth. The sad reality of gardening is that weeds compete with the plants you want and take away from their beauty. 36 Most people try to find a quick and easy solution to the problem of weeds by using chemical weed killers, known as herbicides. Sometimes, though, a solution can cause even bigger problems. Actually using chemical herbicides can have quite a few unintended consequences. 37 They effectively kill weeds, but they can also kill other desirable plants and species. Not only that, but herbicides pose significant health risks to humans. And did you know that repeated use of herbicides can make weeds resistant to their effects 38
After weeds have already invaded your flowerbed or garden, you obviously have to find a way to handle them. There are two basic methods of removing weeds: physical removal and mechanical removal. Physical removal—when using this method you are literally destroying the weeds by putting them out of the ground. 39 This method is generally very effective, but it takes effort. Mechanical removal—this method, which uses a weed eater or a lawnmower, mows weeds down to the ground. It doesn’t take out the roots, though, so the weeds will grow back. 40 With this method, it not only beatifies the garden but also saves you much effort.
By using some of these natural methods, you can keep your garden looking superb without using dangerous herbicides that could damage your health and the environment.
A. But herbicides use isn’t the only way to get rid of weeds.
B. Then, place garden plants close together to crowd out the weeds.
C. You can pullout the weeds by hand or take them out with a shovel.
D.As you might imagine, these chemicals poison the environment.
E. Here are some-solutions to keeping weeds from invading your garden in the first place.
F. As for preventing weeds, covering the ground with landscapes fabrics maybe a good way.
G. As a result, weed control seems to be a never-ending part of sustaining the beauty of a garden.

Dear students,
As is known, rubbish is being produced every single day, which has become a big headache in every city.
To solve this problem, the garbage classification activity has been launched in our city since last month. The advantages of garbage classification are as follows. To begin with, garbage classification can reduce the amount of waste. Accordingly, the cost of dealing with waste will be brought down greatly. What’s more, some of the waste is of value. To reuse and recycle this kind of waste is to save resources to a large extent, which also contributes to environmental protection.
Garbage classification is a meaningful and rewarding thing. If everyone can do it, small things can make a big difference. Let’s work together for a better and cleaner city!

However, Marquez knew what had to be done. “I don’t think I want to play ball anymore,” he announced. “I want to do something else.” The family stood confused. “Like what, son ” his father said, breaking the silence. “Cheerleading,” Marquez replied. Nervous, unbelievable laughter followed that word. They thought he was joking. “That’s what I really want to do.” Marquez said in a voice that came out louder than expected. When they saw he was serious, they were quiet.
Over the next few weeks, his family began to understand and support him for the big event. Over weeks of training, he could see that he was improving with practice. Maybe he even stood a shot at making the competition. A week later, it was time for the competition. From the sidelines, dad, mom, Reggie cheered Marquez on. As the music played, he hit every beat the best he could. The following Monday, results for the competition were posted. Marquez saw his name at the top of the list. He made it—of course he did. This time, he felt proud of himself.
