When I was six, I played my first soccer game. It was a real game, complete with coaches, uniforms, and parents cheering from the sidelines.
Our two teams, Team One and Team Two, seemed pretty evenly matched, at least in the beginning. The first period ended without a single goal scored by either side. We were all still learning how to play the game properly, and our inexperience ran through this part. We stumbled over the ball, tripped over our own feet, and often completely missed our kicks. But what mattered most was that we were having fun, pure and simple.
The second quarter brought a significant change in the game. Our coach decided to pull out most of our starting players and put in the substitutes (替补), except for me—I was left guarding the goal. On the other side, Team Two’s coach decided to keep their best players on the field, which made things even more challenging for us. It seemed that winning suddenly become essential, even for us six-year-olds.
Team Two started to rule the game, and I found myself surrounded by their players whenever they came near our goal. I was determined to do my best, but it was tough. I couldn’t match the skills of three or four other really good players. Team Two began to score, one goal after another. I threw myself in front of the ball with all the energy I could gather, trying desperately to stop them but in vain.
The pressure was mounting, and I could feel my frustration building with every goal that slipped past me. I shouted, I ran, and I dove, but they kept scoring. I gave it everything I had, but it seemed useless.
My parents were there on the sidelines, and I could see them in the crowd. As the game progressed, I could see the change in my father’s expression. He had been urging me to try harder, yelling advice and encouragement from the sidelines, but now he seemed different. I could see the pain in his eyes, the pain he felt seeing me struggle. It made me want to cry.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Team Two scored their fourth goal, and it was half-time break.

As the school Halloween party was just around the corner, the school hall was full of children dressed in different shapes and colours of spooks (鬼) and wonder. Some walked in as princes and princesses, some stepped in as vampires (吸血鬼) and superheroes and some made dramatic entrances as astronauts and historical figures. But one little girl walked in, hiding her face and hoping nobody would take notice of her grey pants and white T-shirt.
Ellie wanted to dress up as a princess that year. Her dad had promised her a few months earlier that her costume would turn a lot of heads. But, as you know, sometimes dads are too busy with their work and forget the small important things while dealing with the big important ones. When Ellie’s dad forgot to save up for her princess costume for the school Halloween party that year, she wasn’t mad at him. However, she couldn’t hold her tears back when the mean kids from her class started making fun of her.
“What are you supposed to be dressed as Ugly Ellie ” one of the boys laughed quietly. Ellie covered her ears and cried as she heard the kids crying out her latest nickname and laughing naughtily over and over again. Every face around her was unkind and indifferent to her sadness.
Mr. Borges was her favourite art teacher and Ellie liked his classes very much. He would listen to Ellie’s deepest fears and biggest dreams. Ellie lived with her grandmother, but it was Mr. Borges who took the place of her father as her guardian, because her father was too busy with his work.
Just as the boys were making fun of Ellie, Mr. Borges came up to her. He was trying to tell her something. The girl wiped her tears right away and managed to escape the crowd of children, closely following him.
“Wait here!” Mr. Borges said and walked into the supply closet (贮藏室). A moment later, he returned, with a few rolls of toilet paper in his hand. Ellie couldn’t help but wonder why he was holding a few rolls of toilet paper.

Green Thumb
All I did was show my little sister how to grow plants. Dig a hole. Put in a seed. Cover it with dirt. Water it. Wait. “See, Laynie,” I explained, “a whole plant will grow from this tiny seed. All we have to do is water it.”
Laynie had her own watering can so she could “help” me in the garden. One day, after everything was watered, she ran to the fence and started sprinkling water on another spot. I walked over and saw a fresh patch of dirt near the fence.
“Did you plant something there ” I asked.
“Yes,” she said. “I’m growing a pencil. My purple pencil got too small, so I planted it.”
“What But, Laynie—”
I should have explained things right then, but I just muttered, “Uh…I never grew one before.”
Later I got what seemed like a great idea. I dug up Laynie’s pencil and “planted” a brand-new purple pencil. Laynie was really excited when she saw it. “My pencil grew!” she shouted.
A few days later, Laynie was watering on the same spot. Two days later, new crayons sticking their pointy little heads out, thanks to me. Laynie jumped up and down and yelled, “They look like flowers!” She “picked” them and ran into the house.
Next, Laynie grew an adult bear doll from a tiny one, a soup spoon from a teaspoon, and a hand mirror from a piece of glass. When she claimed that she had grown these things, I just kept my mouth shut! Actually, it was fun trying to think of what should grow from Laynie’s seeds. And it was cool to see her get excited.
One day I saw her patting down some dirt near the fence again, so I knew she’d just planted something. My heart dropped to my feet when she asked, “How long does it take to grow a goldfish, Brad ” I couldn’t speak.
“Not long, I bet!” said Laynie. She knelt down to whisper “Grow, Molly. Grow!” before she skipped back to the house.

Have you ever heard of the position “sometimes backup catcher (替补接球手) ” I hadn’t either. Until this spring.
Since childhood, I have always liked watching baseball match. I especially loved the thrill of watching the catchers grab that game-winning grand slam (大满贯球) at the final moment. I sometimes pictured myself as the catcher, with body moving as swift as a leopard to the outfield and with eyes as sharp as an eagle’s, ready to catch the ball from the pitcher(投球手) with the glove and secure those decisive points.
This spring, my parents brought me to the Centerville Youth Baseball tryouts (选拔). When it was my turn, I ran out on to the field. My parents were surprised at how quickly I returned. “How’d you do ” Dad asked. “I don’t know,” I said. “I’m not sure I’ll make the team.” “Let’s wait and see.” Mom said.
After tryouts, Coach Bull yard announced, “Positions are posted in the clubhouse.” Parents and kids stampeded to check the results.
Dad stared at the lineup list for a long time. I couldn’t get myself to look. “So, did I make the team ” I asked him finally.
“You did,” Dad replied. “It says ‘Mike Davis: sometimes backup catcher.’” What does that mean It didn’t sound great.
We had three practices before the first game. The first day, Is at on the bench beside my friend Emily, and Coach pointed to the outfield. “Mike Davis and Emily Hall—out there. And practice!” Emily and I headed for the outfield.
During our first practice, everything seemed to be in a mess. At the second practice, I showed some improvement, but still missed several catches. I even slipped and fell as it started to rain. I heard Emily chuckle. Coach Bull yard noticed this, and came close to me, comforting, “It’s important for a catcher to catch every ball, especially the grand-slam ball. If you do your best, you’ll see the result in the game.
At home, I asked my older brother James. “Do you think Coach will ever put me in a game as a catcher ” James wrote down and calculated some numbers. Finally, he said “The likelihood that you’ll play in a game before the end of the season is as slim as finding a needle in a haystack.” He looked at me. “In other words, it probably won’t happen.”

Callie was a high school student. Because of her parents’ business, her family moved from London to Los Angeles, where she grew up.
Living in a quiet and warm community with her parents, Callie was very interested in various volunteer activities in the community, and almost no one in the community didn’t know her.
On a sunny afternoon, Callie was reading a poem when she heard a soft knock. She stood up at once and opened the door. Her favourite neighbor, Mrs. Baker, stood outside the door.
“I need your help, Callie,” Mrs. Baker said, “and do you know the empty lot (场地) down the street ” Callie nodded, smiling. “The place is a mess, covered with trash. The city is letting us use the lot as a community garden, “she explained.” We need help to clean up the lot on Saturday. “Sure, Mrs. Baker!” Callie said cheerfully. “I just have nothing to do this Saturday. I will be happy to help you!” Mrs. Baker looked pleased and said, “Thanks, Callie. We want to get the garden planted before summer. By then, adults and children in our community will have had a good place to go.”
At school the next morning, Callie’s close friend Tamara was waiting for her by their classroom, who had a surprise for her. Tamara said, “My mom bought tickets to Fun World this Saturday. She has an extra one for you!” The girls had been waiting for months for the amusement park (游乐场) to reopen.
Callie sighed and worried over how to choose for the rest of the day. Her mother noticed her mood (情绪) when she arrived home. “Did something go wrong at school ” her mother asked.
Callie explained her problem. “What should I do, Mom ” Callie asked. “I know you want to go with Tamara and also want to help Mrs. Baker. Think carefully about your choice, and you need to make your own decision. But I know you will do what is best,” her mother answered.

My father had been a sales trainer who taught presentation skills. He traveled across the world for work and competed in tennis tournaments on the weekends. “Life is good,” he would always say, with a twinkle in his eyes.
Everything changed during my second year of high school. A sudden stroke (中风) left my dad with severe physical and neurological deficits. He was unable to move the right side of his body. But the most serious problem, amidst so many others, was his loss of speech.
The stroke resulted in a disorder called aphasia, which damages someone’s ability to communicate and understand language. It was like my father was a prisoner in his own body, unable to do and say exactly what he wanted.
The aphasia also caused my dad to say things he did not mean. He would sometimes cry in the middle of a funny movie and laugh when something tragic happened. I found myself going through embarrassment whenever we were in public. My father would wave his cane like a weapon and shout incoherent yet harmless phrases at passersby. It upset me. I hated the stares and hushed comments, even though he did not notice.
One afternoon, I came home to find my dad watching an old video. It was a video of my father and me playing tennis. What used to be such a simple pleasure was now impossible. We watched in silence until I couldn’t hold my grief any longer. I found myself shaking and crying. At any time, he could have another stroke. There was no promise of tomorrow. I felt overcome by fear, both for my family and for my father.
Father’s lips moved while he watched me cry. He clearly wanted to say something, but was powerless. I wondered what he wanted to say to inspire me to face up to the darkness we were going through.
I finally found my answer when one day I took my dad to the park, rowing a boat as we did a few times before. “You …and… me!” he managed to say.

English was always easy for me, but that changed the first day I walked into Mrs. Johnson’s class. I’d heard rumors from former students that she was strict and demanding that her class was impossible to pass, and that I was crazy for even wanting to take it. Consequently, I was extremely nervous.
On the first day of school, Mrs. Johnson stood in the front of her classroom, smiling, while she waited for the class to settle down. Her long, curly, red hair and clear blue eyes made her seem full of life. You could tell she had so much knowledge that it just wanted to overflow and spill (溅出) all over the floor.
“This course is Advanced Writing Course,” she said. “I’m not exaggerating when I say this class will be difficult, but if you trust me, I’ll guide you.”
She explained her grading system was different from what we were used to and that we’d better forget about the so-called good grades we had got before. She guaranteed that our writing would improve once we understood the new writing skills which she would teach us.
“Writing is an art,” she said. “You can’t just put words on a piece of paper and sign your name on top of it. Instead, what you put your name on is out there to be judged.”
I’d never thought about it that way. Every time I rushed to finish an essay and wrote my name on top, it was still my writing, my words, out there for everyone to read.
She hoped that if we wanted to be good writers, we had to remember writing really was an art, and that it might take a long time to perfect.
Even though I thought I was doing fine in her class, my writing grade was terrible. I began to doubt myself and even thought about quitting the writing class. That was when I realized I needed to find out what I could do to improve my grade.

I was awakened by the sound of heavy boots hitting the floor as my grandfather walked across the wooden floor to the fireplace. He added wood to the fire. Soon, the small wooden house felt warm.
It was 5: 30 on a cold January morning, deep in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. I, a12-year-old boy, was here with my grandfather and four other men on an annual deer-hunting trip. My grandfather wanted me to take the adventure to increase my courage and fun.
Looking at me, he smiled, “Could you make some coffee ” To prove that I was qualified to join this male club, I got up and started the work.
After breakfast, we left the warm and safe house and headed out into the dark, snowy morning, walking through deep snow. When we climbed over a mountain and crossed frozen streams, my grandfather told me to be mindful of where we had been and where we were headed. I tried to keep track of our route, but later had no idea.
About mid-afternoon, we made our way down the side of a new mountain to the stream bed below. My grandfather told me to head to the top of the next mountain, walk along the ridge (山脊) for a few hundred feet, and then come back down. If there were any deer on that part of the mountain, I would need to threaten them down to the bottom where my grandfather waited. So, off I went with a gun.
It took me 20 minutes to climb to the top. I walked along the ridge and then headed back down. I didn’t realize I had crossed over the top and had started back down the other side of the mountain. I headed in the wrong direction. After walking for 45 minutes, I realized I was lost in the woods. I was shocked.
After finally calming myself, I sat down and worked out a plan. I would first fire the gun and then start a fire, hoping my grandfather would know where I was by the sounds and smoke.
I looked at my watch. It was 4: 00. The sun would set down soon.

My dad and I had been looking forward to the Stale cross-country race of my senior year of high school, which would be the climax (顶点) of my existence.
I was the fastest runner on my team, and I was supposed to make it into the top fifteen. We had been working towards this race for three years. It was everything to me, and it was everything to my dad. He was a runner and was wild with joy by my success in running. He made it to every race, even flying home early from business trips to see me run. I always listened for his voice, which rang above the crowd-telling me to relax my arms, calling out my time. He pushed me. He cheered for me. He believed in me. We spent countless hours on the sandy canals of Arizona. Breathing in the dust of the desert, the blossoms of the orange trees, and the terrible smell of the dairy farm, we made our way across the city. We pounded miles and miles into our running shoes, marking with every step the path to greatness. It was a journey that was just ours. A dream passed on from one generation to the next.
Then the big day came. It was hotter than normal - too hot. My throat felt like a field of cotton, cracked with the summer heat, as I waited for the gun to fire. I gazed out at the crowd; dozens of familiar faces from church and school flickered across my view. They had come for me. They were counting on me. I saw my dad set his watch, worry and excitement etched across his face. With the sound of a gunshot, the race began.
For the first two and half miles, I felt great. I had never before been so ready for something. The weeks leading up to the race were filled with hard practices and a strict diet. The scorching sun beat upon my back, blinding me with its brilliance. Nothing was going to stop me, though.

参考答案:
1.One possible version:
Team Two scored their fourth goal, and then it was half-time break. I retrieved the ball from the net and handed it to the referee, feeling utterly helpless. Overwhelmed with despair, I dropped to my knees, tears of a broken-hearted child rolling down my cheeks. It was in that moment that my father made his way onto the field. When he picked me up and held me tightly, the whole world seemed to disappear for a moment. He said in a gentle but firm voice, “Sweetie, it doesn’t matter how many times they scored on you. I’m proud of you. I want you to go back out there and finish the game. Go on now!” (103 words)
In that moment, what my father said meant the world to me. When I felt all alone and defeated, knowing that my dad stood by my side, loving and supporting me unconditionally, made all the difference in the world—I could tell it did. Without hesitation, I wiped away my tears and ran back onto the field, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. And yes, they did score two more times, but this time, it was different. With my dad’s words echoing in my heart, I knew that I could keep going, no matter what. (84 words)
2.“What’s that for ” Ellie asked. “It’s your Halloween costume. It’s going to be the best costume ever!” beamed Mr. Borges with thrill. Surprised and expectant, Ellie stood frozen on the spot with her eyes wide open. “Come over here,” Mr. Borges gestured to the costume and started to wrap toilet paper around her all over. Seeing herself in the mirror, Ellie jumped up and down, clapping her hands joyfully. “I love it! I love it! Mr. Broges. Thank you!” She hugged Mr. Borges and placed a tiny kiss on his cheek.
What Mr. Borges did meant everything to Ellie, especially in the field of art. “Thank you for your kindness,” thanked Ellie, with tears brimming in her eyes. Mr. Borges replied with a big toothy smile and encouraged, “I can see your artistic talent. Why not give it a shot ” Under Mr. Borges’ encouragement, Ellie started to pick up the brush and buried herself in fine art. The little girl that used to be teased by her classmates later became a distinguished artist. Never would Ellie forget that there was a teacher with a heart of gold, who was willing to lend her a hand when she was at rock bottom.
3.One possible version:
I sat down with my back to the fence and thought for a long time. Sighing, I decided there was only one right thing to do. I got up, took some things from the shed, and went inside. When I displayed the short pencil, the crayons, the teaspoon... on the table, Laynie was dumbfounded. Then I explained how I’d dug up and replaced all of her things. “No!” she screamed, red-faced. With a big shove, she knocked everything off the table. “Laynie,” I swallowed hard and added, “Molly isn’t going to grow either.” At this, she burst into tears and ran off. The heart pierced with guilt, I felt like a worm.
Later I found Laynie silting by the spot where Molly was buried. I sat down beside her, gently held her in my embrace and apologized. Laynie turned her face away. I went on, ‘‘See, you can grow things from seeds—not from pencils or... dead things. OK ” “Just seeds ” she asked, face still tear-stained. I nodded. She looked at me for a minute as if thinking about something. Later that day, after we had a funeral for Molly, I saw Laynie patting down some dirt on Molly’s grave. My heart tightened. “I’m growing some forget-me-nots, so Molly won’t forget me,” she said. This time, I thought “the green thumb” would have a real harvest.
4.Paragraph 1: That night in bed, I thought about my older brother James’ words. I began to reflect on what my brother said. Yes, there was a gap in the skills of catching every ball, and my physical fitness still cannot compare with other players. At this moment, I remembered the coach's words and I made up my mind to practice. Starting from the second day, every afternoon after school, I quietly went to the school baseball training ground to improve my physical fitness and practice receiving skills. I believed that hard work would pay off, and I wouldn't let my brother look down upon me.
Paragraph 2: In the last few minutes of the final game, the coach decided to make substitution of players (换人) . Our team was left far behind by the opponent and they were about to win the game. I sat on the edge of the playground, anxiously walking back and forth. At this moment, the coach walked towards me. He said deeply and firmly, "Go and catch up with the score! Your persistence and dedication will definitely be rewarded! Come on, young man!” With the coach's affirmation and expectations, I caught the ball steadily in the next few catches, which was out of the opponent's expectations. The score was tied all the way, and in the last minute of the game, I caught the crucial ball. We won! The whole audience erupted with deafening applause and cheers! After the game, the coach's words echoed in my ears, “It’s important for a catcher to catch every ball, especially the grand-slam ball. If you do your best, you’ll see the result in the game.” Yes, I made it.
5.Paragraph 1:
Callie spent the evening thinking about her decision. There was no doubt that going to Fun World would be interesting, but on second thoughts, helping clean up the lot should be more meaningful, because people in the community could be provided with a better environment. The next day at school, Callie apologised to Tamara for her not being able to go to the amusement park, which got Tamara down. Tamara thought Callie didn’t attach too much importance to their friendship.
Paragraph 2:
On Saturday, Callie met Mrs. Baker at the empty lot and behind Mrs. Baker stood Tamara. “Hi, Callie,” Mrs. Baker said, “Your mother said you made a difficult choice, and thank you and your friend for helping us today.” “You’re welcome,” Callie said. Tamara smiled at Callie and said, “Knowing you made a promise that you would come to help clean up the lot, I am willing to do it with you. My mom said she would take us to Fun World next weekend.” Callie smiled and hugged Tamara, with tears running down her cheeks (with复合结构).

Shocked, I wanted to hear more. Seized by eagerness and excitement, I leaned forward, inclining my ear to his lips. I tried to pretend not to be waiting though I knew Dad was struggling for his voice. My dad looked at me with a familiar expression. “Life… good.” The words came in a mumble, but I got them. Maybe because of his bright smile, or a rush of warm air, in that precious moment, I understood exactly what he meant.
“Yes. Life is good.” I whispered back, completing it for him. That was what he would always say before his stroke. I couldn’t imagine how tirelessly he had worked to recover what he had lost or to regain a fair amount of his speech. I could comprehend now he had always been trying to inspire me to move forward in the face of the darkest times. I used to love the light for it showed me the way; yet now I appreciate the darkness for it shows me the stars.
7.Version 1:
So I went to Mrs. Johnson’s office after class. “Mrs. Johnson, I, uh, I’d like to talk with you about my writing.” I stammered, my voice barely rising above a whisper. Smiling, she got up from her chair, patted me on the shoulder and said gently, “OK, what’s your problem ” Her warm smile melted my nervousness. I poured out all my puzzles about writing, which she explained one by one patiently. She also told me writing, like any other skill, was something I could get better at with time and practice. She even promised to tutor me after class on a regular basis.
The after-class instructions continued for months until the Year Writing Contest came. Mrs. Johnson encouraged me to enter for it, but I hesitated—I wasn’t ready for a contest. Seeing my lack of motivation, she said only those who dared to fail greatly could achieve greatly. Waking up to her encouragement, I decided to give it a try. Although I didn’t win any prize, the experience helped me understand Mrs. John’s remark “writing was an art”. After that, I was really into writing and never stopped it, which I owed to the guidance of my dear teacher Mrs. Johnson.
Version 2:
So I went to Mrs. Johnson’s office after class. “Mrs. Johnson, I, uh, I’d like to talk with you about my writing.” I stammered, my voice barely rising above a whisper. Smiling, she got up from her chair, patted me on the shoulder and said gently, “OK, what’s your problem ” Her warm smile melted my nervousness. The after-class instructions continued for months until the Year Writing Contest came. When Mrs. Johnson entered me for it, I joyfully took the opportunity as those months of after-class instructions had greatly aroused my interest in writing and boosted my confidence. As Mrs. Johnson said, when you had a dream, you just grabbed it and never let go. To my greatest joy, I won the first prize. After that, I was really into writing and understood that writing was an art, which I owed to the guidance of my dear teacher Mrs. Johnson.
8.I held my gun and immediately fired three shots. The loud sounds quickly spread. Then, I cocked my ears. Immediately, I heard three answering shots, and I was pretty sure which direction they had come from. But I didn’t leave, thinking, “Stay put. It’s easier to find a lost person who is sitting still.” I just stayed there, gathering dry leaves and branches nearby, and soon started a fire. Later, I added wet branches and leaves to it. It caused big smoke, which flew into the sky. I sat by the fire, looking around.
Finally, I found my grandfather and other men walking in my direction hurriedly. Excited, I rushed to them. Seeing me, my grandfather sighed with relief and hugged me. Then, we headed back towards the house. On the way, my grandfather didn’t blame me for being lost. Instead, he praised me for knowing how to handle such an emergency. Besides, he explained how to avoid being lost again. The next morning, I went hunting with my grandfather again. I wouldn’t be scared away by the previous accident. I determined to be brave and make progress in tracking my route and telling directions.
9. However, without warning, my strength was running out. My lungs fought to take in enough air, and my feet transformed into cement bricks. Neck and neck with one of my greatest rivals, I could see the finish line. I had begun the final sprint into glory when my knees buckled and my legs gave way. Nothing I could do would make them hold my weight. They were as weak as jelly. Even though I knew my dreams of victory had been destroyed, I had to finish the race. With all of the strength left in me, I got on my hands and knees and crawled, inch by inch, across the finish line. Shame pulsed through my veins as Dad squatted down and pulled me into his arms.
I whispered, “I’m so sorry I disappointed you, Dad.” He gave me a gentle smile and said, “You could never disappoint me. Sometimes these things just happen. All that matters is that you did your best.” Lifting my face, I saw my dad’s eyes, in which I saw the sweat, the time, and the work we had put into our dream. The miles we had run together, all for this race, flashed across my mind. “But we worked so hard. What about our dream” I asked. In that second, the world stood still. He reached over for my hand, holding back his own tears, and said, “Don’t you know that you are my dream come true ”
