第二部分 阅读理解 50 分(共两节,满分 50 分)
第一节 阅读理解 3篇(共 15 小题,每题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
A
When I woke up, I made myself breakfast, sat and listened to the traffic. Some of my
friends ask me how I can stand living somewhere so noisy. It's true that there's always
some kind of noise in my neighborhood, but to me, these are the sounds of life.
It was Saturday morning, so I decided to go to the park. The taxi is the fastest way to
go but I took the bus instead.
When you ride the bus, you get to see so much more of the city. It can be kind of loud
on the bus, with some people talking on their phones, others chatting with their friends,
and others playing music. It's just like the traffic's sounds, though the noise on the bus
represents people working, relaxing and living.
Once I got to the park, I picked a bench over near the play area where kids play while

their parents sit nearby. I can see and hear almost everything from there. People-watching
is one of my favorite things to do. However, I like listening even better. The only problem
is that there's so much to see and hear in the park!
Usually, I like to close my eyes. That way, I can pay more attention to the sounds and
not get distracted by what I see. With my eyes closed, I could pick out parts of two old
men's conversation. One of them was telling the other about something his grandson said.
I couldn't hear the rest, but it must have been hilarious because his friend's laugh was so
loud.
When I'm old, I hope that I too will have a friend who will sit in the park with me, and
who will enjoy listening to the sounds of the city as much as I do.
21.Some of the author's friends think "the sounds of life" are very ______.
A. unpleasant B. unique C. magical D. interesting
22.The author took the bus to the park because ______.
A. there was no other transport to go there
B. he wanted to see more about people's life
C. it was the most convenient way
D. his friend advised him to do so
23.The author closed his eyes in order to ______.
A. have a good rest B. hide himself from view
C. enjoy the sounds of life D. avoid talking with the two old men
24.The underlined word "hilarious" in Paragraph 5 probably means "______".
A. truly different B. quite popular
C. rather strange D. extremely funny
25.What’s the author’s hope according to the last paragraph
A. Getting rid of the noise. B. Living in a quiet neighborhood.
C. Sitting in the park. D. Enjoying the sounds of a city with a friend.

Ida Keeling's daughter, Cheryl, a lifelong athlete, thought that maybe what would pull
her mother out from under her dark cloud was something that would get her pumping
again. She suggested a run. Not just a jog around the block, but an official run. At the time,
Ida Keeling was 67.
Keeling had grown up poor in Harlem, and had done hard work in factories. She had
lost her husband early to a heart attack, and two of her four children—both of her sons—
died in unsolved drug-related incidents in 1978 and 1981.
Keeling had sunk into a deep depression(消沉), and her health had begun to slide.
Her daughters began to worry that they soon might be losing their mother as well.
It had been decades since Keeling had done any running, and she would later recall
that first "mini-run" feeling as if it would never end. But when it did, "I just threw off all
my bad memories."
She hasn't stopped running since, and it's no longer the tough work it was during that
first meet. Since then, the small Keeling has set records for 60 meters in the 95-to-99 age
group, and in 100 meters for the over-100 group.
"I was just exercising," she says regarding that first run, "and now I'm all over the
world."

When she's not running, she's working out. She's in the gym three to four days a week,
running on tread-mills (跑步机), working out with weights and pedaling on the exercise
bike, and even squeezing in some squats (深蹲) while she's cooking. Part of her healthy
diet is occasional brandy wine mixed with her coffee or water to aid circulation (血液循
环).
She's written a book about her experiences, titled Can't Nothing Bring Me Down:
Chasing Myself in the Race Against Time. Her philosophy is also suitable for a runner:
"Every day is another day forward."
26.What do the underlined words "get her pumping" mean in paragraph 1
A. Free her from great pressure. B. Fill her with life and energy.
C. Equip her with self-confidence. D. Remind her of her problems.

A. She had grown up poor. B. She had done hard work.
C. She had been in poor health. D. She had lost her husband and sons.
28. What contributes to Keeling's setting records when she is very old
A. Travelling around the world. B. The mini-run experience.
C. Working out whenever possible. D. Brandy wine mixed with coffee.
29.Which of the following can best describe Keeling
A. Athletic and strong-willed. B. Caring and sport-loving.
C. Friendly and hard-working. D. Humorous and outgoing.
30. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Run forward. B. Never too old to learn.
C. Live healthily. D. Never give up hope in life.

In October, temperatures across China begin to drop. Do you experience a mood shift
as it turns to winter
Many people do. For about one in 20 people in the northern half of the United States,
cooling temperatures and shorter, darker days may signal the onset of seasonal affective
disorder (季节性情绪失调), or SAD, a type of depression that typically arrives in autumn
or winter, The New York Times reported.
Not every mild blue feeling in winter is SAD. SAD symptoms (症状 ) make it
difficult for people to function. It tends to start with an increased appetite for foods like
French fries or ice cream, the eagerness to sleep longer hours, difficulty getting up in the
morning and feeling wiped out at work, according to Wales Online.
The exact cause of this disorder remains unknown. But the good news is that because
SAD is tied to the changing seasons, "You can predict its onset and ward it off." Michael
Terman, a professor of clinical psychology at Columbia University, US, told The New
York Times.
"There's been a fair bit of research since about the 1980s supporting light therapy (疗
法) as being effective for seasonal kinds of depression," psychotherapist Rakhi Chand told
The Guardian. But she also advised using this type of therapy under the guidance of a
professional.
While light therapy is the first recommended treatment for SAD, getting outside
regularly can offer other opportunities to sink in some light. You might want to retreat (撤

神病学家) whose research team identified and named the disorder in the 1980s, told The
New York Times. "Walking outside even 20 or 30 minutes each day could make a huge
difference," he added.
Also, instead of giving into sugar longing, it is important to choose foods that are
known to boost mood such as dark chocolate, nuts, oatmeal and berries, according to
Egypt Today.

3. Remember that fear of public speaking is very common. 38 . Most of the
people in the audience would be feeling the same fear and stress that you do in your
