Brought to a tennis court for the first time at just five, initially encouraged by his parents as an exercise to lose weight, Wu soon had his talent discovered by his provincial junior team, kicking off a journey that would change the face of men’s tennis in China. In 2017, Wu Yibing shot to prominence after winning the US Open boys’ tournament at 18 to become the first Chinese to win a major junior title, raising high hopes for the “Wonder Boy” to change the fortune of Chinese men in a sport long dominated by women’s success on the pro stage.

Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.
According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or “vlogger” (视频博主). The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.
This change is undoubtedly as a result of the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach audience of the world, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.
In the past, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life.
However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful earn fame and fortune. For every success there are hundreds of others who never get off the starting line. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that remain dreams forever.
Although being vloggers is popular, some young people choose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. His job allows him to express his enthusiasm, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him.
5 What is the passage mainly about
A. Most young Britons choose to be vloggers as their job.
B. The Internet is influencing young Britons’career choice.
C. The Internet is taking the place of traditional studios.
D. Young Britons can not find jobs without the Internet.
6. Why do more and more young Britons choose to be vloggers
A. Vloggers can earn greater fame and more money on the Internet.
B. There is too much competition in the traditional show business.
C. The Internet makes it convenient to enter show business.
D. Anyone with a computer will surely become a star.
7. What can we infer from Paragraph 5
A. Only a few vloggers can be famous and wealthy.
B. A vlogger can not earn fame and fortune.
C. People often see the bright side of being a vlogger.
D. Dreams will always remain dreams.
8. What do young people like David do on the Internet
A. Learn from others. B. Become an online hit.
C. Hold running races. D. Combine jobs with hobbies.
C
People are looking to make meaning after the global pandemic. And one way that some of us do this is to credit coincidences—the unexpected concurrence (同时发生) of events—with helping to find jobs, friends and spouses, make significant career decisions and relieve pains. Scholars disagree on the cause of coincidences. Some say they are random and due to probability. Others see God or spiritual forces at work. Still others say it’s our subconscious making connections. No matter the cause, people who study coincidences say that paying attention to these moments may help us, especially in times of stress.
Studies show that noticing coincidences may help boost both the effectiveness of psychotherapy and mental well-being. Michael Schauch, 42, an investment-portfolio manager in Squamish, British Columbia, who is an avid mountaineer, lost his best friend Brent last year. A few months later, Mr. Schauch climbed a mountain he and Brent often scaled together. At the summit, Mr. Schauch found hundreds of ladybugs. When he climbed a different mountain on the anniversary of Brent’s death, he saw a ladybug as he started up each new section of the rock face. “I knew at once that it was Brent, and that he was still there with me, as if to say: ‘You’ve got this, Mike. Keep going!’” he says.
Coincidences can make the world feel like it makes good sense, says David B. Yaden, an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School. Varieties of spiritual experiences show a correlation (关联) between coincidences and an increase in positive emotions, better personal relationships and a greater sense of meaning in life.
Coincidences are more likely to happen to certain people. “People who are troubled by distress and searching for signs are more likely to experience coincidences,” says Bemard Beitman, a psychiatrist and a coincidence researcher. If you’d like to enhance your ability to notice coincidences, there are several strategies, says Lisa Miller, a clinical psychologist: Be open to them. Write them down. Talk about them with others. “We really need this deep inner wisdom.” she says.
9. What can we learn about coincidences from paragraph 1
A. They happen as expected. B. They provide guidance or relief.
C. They activate subconscious mind. D. They contribute to invisible forces.
10. Why does the author mention Michael Schalch’s story
A. To clarify the cause of coincidences.
B. To offer a method of coping with grief.
C. To show the comforting effect of coincidences.
D. To present a solid friendship between two climbers.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Lucky people tend to be surprised by coincidences.
B. Wisdom is to the soul what mental health is to the body.
C. Coincidences mean more to our daily lives than the surface.
D. The more we cultivate coincidences, the more likely they happen.
12. What is the passage mainly about
A. The meaningful moments in life. B. The hidden power of coincidences.
C. The various opinions on coincidences. D. The strategies for noticing coincidences.

Mike licked the last of the mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was almost time to leave. He jumped into the car with his parents and headed off to the Olympic-sized pool for the big swim meet.
When his race came up, Mike was confident. He was strong and swift. Mike climbed out the pool, smiling. He had just won first place, making him the fastest boy in his age group.
“Congratulations, son,” his father said. His mom gave him a hug, even though he was soaking wet.
A week later, it was time for another swim meet. Like before, Mike decided to enjoy his favorite ice cream flavor. Mike remembered that the last time he had won a race, he also ate mint chocolate chip ice cream first. Maybe he’d win again.
He’s taken first place again in his race. Mike was feeling pretty good. As it turned out, Mike decided to have some mint chocolate chip ice cream before every one of the next few swim meets. He began to think of it as his lucky charm. After several months of placing in the top positions of every race he swam, Mike was feeling unbeatable. And he wouldn’t admit it, but all that ice cream was adding a few pounds to his athletic swimmer’s build.
It didn’t take long after that for Mike to start coming in second place – and then third – and then last place in his races. The lucky mint chocolate chip ice cream had lost its magic.
On the day of his next swim meet, his mother sat down at the table with him. “Mike, we all love ice cream, but it’s not healthy for your body to eat so much of it. Maybe it’s time to quit the sweet treats for a while, especially before you go swimming.””
Mike unwillingly agreed. He went to the swim meet, and didn’t perform well. His father offered to go running with him a few days a week to help him feel better and strengthen his muscles. The extra weight soon disappeared, and Mike found himself breathing easier at swim practices.

5. What is the passage mainly about
D Dreams will always remain dreams.
8. What do young people like David do on the Internet
A. Learn from others. B. Become an online hit.
C. Hold running races. D. Combine jobs with hobbies.
B 6. C 7. A 8. D

Keep going!’” he says.
根据最后一段第二句““People who are troubled by distress and searching for signs are more likely to experience coincidences,” says Bemard Beitman, a psychiatrist and a coincidence researcher. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一些培养耐心的方法。
【13题详解】
上文“Packages must be delivered within 24 hours and meals at a restaurant need to arrive within 30 minutes. ”(包裹必须24小时之内送达,外卖则30分钟内到达。)说明我们变得越来越急躁,没有耐心。与E项“Many people have grown more and more impatient as a result.”(结果许多人变得越来也没有耐心。)
下文“By doing these small things, you’ll develop your patience.”(通过做这些小事,你将培养出耐心。) 与F项“Becoming more patient is a long journey and start it with small steps.”(变得更有耐心是一个漫长的过程,要从小事做起。)
上文“Knowing your triggers(诱因)will help you take better charge of a situation the next time you find yourself impatient.”(知道你的触发因素会帮助你在下次发现自己不耐烦的时候掌控局面。)说明要了解哪些因素会使自己不耐烦,结合下文的例子“maybe you grow impatient when you see a long line at your favorite coffee shop.”(当看到你最喜欢的咖啡店排起了长队时,你可能会不耐烦。)说明了一种使自己不耐烦的具体情形,故D项“Identify the things, places or people that make you impatient.”(确定那些会使你不耐烦的事情,地方和人)符合上下文的句意衔接。故选D项。
上文“For example, wait for your coffee to brew (冲泡) on a weekend morning.”(比如在一个周末的早晨等待你的咖啡冲泡好。)举例说明了一种不急躁,有耐心的情形,与C项“Enjoy such process occasionally rather than rush to do it.”(偶尔享受这样的过程,而不是匆忙地做它。)
上文“If you are stuck in a traffic jam, there’s little you can do to get out of it.”(如果你遇到了交通堵塞,几乎没有办法摆脱它。)说明了一种令人沮丧又无能为力的情形,G项“Instead of getting frustrated, accept your situation and make the best of it.”(与其沮丧,不如接受现状,并充分利用它)说明的是遇到这种情形的应对方法,符合语境。

句意:J.D.
42. He tried to entertain the crying child but didn’t ________.
A. do the trick B. play a trick C. do a trick D. play the trick
【答案】A
A. do the trick奏效,达到预期效果;B. play a trick玩恶作剧,捉弄;C. do a trick表演一个把戏;D. play the trick无该表达。根据“tried to entertain the crying child”和“but”可知,此处有转折,应该是想逗那个哭闹的孩子开心,但没有奏效。故选A。

故填is considered。
spend time (in) doing sth.
故填But。
根据“change the tone or speed of his speech”和句意可知,他改变音调或者语速是为了达到更好的喜剧效果,所以空处应使用形容词比较级greater。
refuse to do sth. 故填to work。
故填a。
故填which。

As he dove into the water, he kicked his legs and stretched his arms as far as he could. It struck endless energy and motivation into his body. His teeth clenched and his eyes fixed on the finish line forward. Suddenly, two figures whizzed past, which startled him. Fearing to fall behind, he felt his heart pounded frantically and his mind went blank. Just then, he thought of his sweat and his father’s encouraging smile.Gradually, his worry gave way to his confidence and the last 5 minutes saw him dash to the finish line, followed by the end of the race.
His jaw dropped as he realized he had beaten his own best time, and everyone else too.The flowers in his heart were already in bloom. His parents came up and gave him a high five, grinning from ear to ear. “Hey, why not try your favorite ice cream and celebrate!” said his father, patting him on the shoulder. “Thanks, Dad, but I have given up the ice cream. It’s not such a lucky charm at all.” His eyes shone with wisdom. It was that day that Mike realized that one’s lucky charm was nothing but his diligence.
