Jo Piazza's story is surprising to us all. When she was in her mid 30s, she was diagnosed with a rare muscle disorder. It would stiffen (使变僵) her muscles, leading to her suffering pain and difficulty even with simple activities such as walking.
She had recently married her husband, Nick, when the diagnosis happened. Despite her obvious physical restrictions, she was destined (注定的) to accomplish something great. Jo Piazza felt that she was holding Nick back and tried to convince him to divorce her. She wanted him to live the best life he could and continue doing the things she couldn't do by herself, such as biking, climbing, and hiking. But, despite her limitations, he stuck with her.
And, after some time of talking, the two decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro together, a volcano located in Tanzania (as well as the highest point in Africa). Over the course of the climb, their relationship was intense. Jo felt her deteriorative (恶化的) health held Nick back, and Nick blamed himself for not helping her more. However, despite their clear issues, the two made it up most of the mountain. On the third day of their climbing, Nick got injuries to his legs, causing them to go down the mountain. Jo was suffering from a disability that put her body and their relationship under the most stress they'd ever been in.
When she finally got down to the foot of the mountain, she didn't feel defeated — she felt happier and stronger than ever. She was able to prove to herself that she was capable of so much more than she'd thought before, and was happy to say that her relationship with Nick had never been better.

Six years ago, something unforgettable happened. My wife, Liz, and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary that year. It was a lovely event hosted by our sons for us. Many wonderful friends from the past surprised us with presents and congratulations. Our gift to each other was a driving trip out west. We drove from Ontario into Alberta, then southward into Glacier National Park in Montana, and continued to Yellowstone National Park.
It was a cold spring day, and the Beartooth Highway had opened for the season just days before. Alongside the road, there was still a great amount of snow remaining. The scenery was so impressive that we made numerous stops to record memories with my camera. At roughly the highest point of the highway, I stopped at a lookout to catch the amazing views, with my wife in the centre of my camera lens.
There were not many vehicles on the road. Occasionally, cars with energetic young tourists passed by. And then we heard a motorcycle in the distance. The driver of the motorcycle, in rags, parked behind our car. As he approached us, his only words were, “Give me your camera and get over there with your wife.” I must admit I felt nervous that we might be robbed where we just created some beautiful memories. Surprisingly, he just took a picture of us, handed back my camera and rode off before we could express our gratitude. The photo he took is one of the most cherished and prized of our trip.
I learnt my lesson somewhere I least expected it. We should never judge a man by his appearance. If the motorcycle driver reads this story and remembres the situation, we would like to say “thank you” to him.
24.According to the text, what do we know about the trip
A.It was a gift for their wedding anniversary.
B.It was a suggestion from their friends.
C.It was in late autumn six years ago.
D.It was taken by train to the west.
25.Which of the following can conclude the passage
A.There is no best, only better. B.Don't judge a book by its cover.
C.Put yourself in others' shoes. D.A contented mind is an everlasting feast.
26.Why was the author nervous when the motorcyclist offered to take a picture
A.The motorcyclist would break the camera.
B.He could have lost the camera with memories.
C.The motorcyclist might not be good at taking pictures.
D.His wife might not be satisfied with the view there.
27.Which of the following best describes the driver of the motorcycle
A.Kind and straightforward. B.Cautious and admirable.
C.Rich and sceptical. D.Creative and tolerant.
C
Next month, I'm traveling to a remote area of Central Africa and my aim is to know enough Lingala — one of the local languages — to have a conversation. I wasn't sure how I was going to manage this — until I discovered a way to learn all the vocabulary I'm going to need. Thanks to Memrise, the app I'm using. It feels just like a game.
“People often stop learning things because they feel they're not making progress or because it all feels like too much hard work,” says Ed Cooke, one of the people who created Memrise. “We're trying to create a form of learning experience that is fun and is something you'd want to do instead of watching TV.”
Memrise gives you a few new words to learn and these are “seeds” which you plant in your “greenhouse”. When you practice the words, you “water your plants”. When the app believes that you have really remembered a word, it moves the word to your “garden”. And if you forget to log on (登录), the app sends you emails that remind you to “water__our__plants”.
The app uses two principles about learning. The first is that people remember things better when they link them to a picture in their mind. Memrise translates words into your own language, but it also encourages you to use “mems”. For example, I memorized motele, the Lingala word for “engine”, using a mem I created — I imagined an old engine in a motel (汽车旅馆) room.
The second principle is that we need to stop after studying words and then repeat them again later, leaving time between study sessions. Memrise helps you with this, because it's the kind of app you only use for five or ten minutes a day.
I've learnt hundreds of Lingala words with Memrise. I know this won't make me a fluent speaker, but I hope I'll be able to do more than just smile when I meet people in Congo. Now, I need to go and water my Vocabulary!
28.What does Ed Cooke make an effort to do with Memrise
A.Create memorable experiences. B.Make progress with hard work.
C.Master languages through games. D.Combine study with entertainment.
29.What do the underlined words “water your plants” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Learning new words. B.Being a Memrise user.
C.Logging on to the app. D.Taking care of your garden.
30.How does Memrise work
A.By linking different mems together. B.By putting knowledge into practice.
C.By offering human translation services. D.By applying an associative memory approach.
31.What is the author's attitude towards Memrise
A.Positive. B.Doubtful. C.Uncaring. D.Disapproving.

China will give the green light to Internet medical services conducted by medical institutions as part of a broader push to promote Internet Plus Healthcare, which was decided at a State Council executive meeting held by Premier Li Keqiang.
Medical institutions will be allowed to provide online diagnostic services for patients with common and chronic diseases in their follow up visits to their doctors. The top levels of hospitals will be encouraged to provide online services, including consultations (会诊), reservations and test result inquiries.
As China joins the ranks of middle income countries, the demand for health services has increased accordingly. Internet Plus Healthcare can help reduce the problem of inaccessible and expensive public health services that have long been a big concern for the general public.
One decision coming out of the meeting says the intelligent review of health insurance will be applied and that the one stop settlement will be advanced. The real time sharing of prescription and drug retail sales will be explored as well.
“We must waste no time in pushing forward the measures once the decision is made,” Li said. “In recent years, top level hospitals in major cities have seen steady increases in the number of patients. Medical bills have become a heavy burden on families and high end medical resources still fall short of meeting the growing demand of the public.”
To solve the problem, a two pronged (双管齐下的) approach must be taken. One is to establish medical partnerships to strengthen cooperation between major hospitals and community clinics. The other is to bring forward Internet Plus Healthcare to promote the sharing of quality medical resources.
The government will see to it that long distance healthcare services cover all county level hospitals. So more efforts will be made to ensure that high speed broadband network will be extended to cover medical institutions in urban and rural areas. Dedicated Internet access services will be set up to meet the needs for long distance healthcare services.
32.According to the text, which of the following services won't a patient enjoy online
A.Receiving a medical operation.
B.Asking doctors for advice after the test.
C.Knowing their situation about the disease.
D.Making an appointment with a doctor in advance.
33.What makes the demand for health services increase in China
A.The expense of medical care.
B.The recognition of health insurance.
C.The improvement of people's life quality.
D.The inconvenience of hospital equipment.
34.What does Li mean by saying “We must waste no time in pushing forward the measures”?
A.The bills are impossible to afford.
B.The situations need urgent improvement.
C.The measures are perfectly worked out.
D.The hospitals are unwilling to admit patients.
35.What can be the suitable title for the text
A.Modern Hospitals
B.Online Healthcare on Its Way
C.No More Burden for General People
D.Wide Applications of Internet Medical Services

It's the Saturday before Thanksgiving, I am, and my chocolate Lab, Stormy, and I are headed for a duck blind a few hours north. The weather forecast calls for the possibility of fog, but the drive down Interstate 5 is clear. Along the way, I stop off for gas and lock Stormy in the camper shell before going inside the station. It's a habit I started after I met a sad old hunter looking for his German shorthair, which had been stolen from his unlocked camper shell at a café.
Back on the road, as I approach the marsh, the fog begins to build. At a curve, I hit a soft shoulder and lose control of the truck. I try to correct, but it's too late. With a clang, the back of the pickup goes over a steep bank. The truck slides backward and down, then a splash. There is a series of flashes, clicks, and whirs before all lights and electronics go out. I pray that the water isn't deep.
At first, the scene seems peaceful, almost beautiful. In the dim light, I can barely make out that I'm in a large canal floating gently downstream and spinning slowly in the current. I try to open the door, but it's locked. The water has shorted the electrical system. I remember that I have a glass breaker. It's in the center console. I clench the tool and give the passenger window a sharp hit. The breaker merely bounces off. I hit it again, with the same result. I try a two handed swing but only manage to scratch the window. With each failed attempt, the urgency of my situation builds. Water gathers at my feet. I lie down on the seat and try to kick out the window, but my feet just bounce off. By this point, the truck's exterior is mostly submerged and the water is pushing against the window. The water level in the cab is cresting over the seat, and cold water soaks my back and neck.

根据第四段的“The app uses two principles about learning. The first is that people remember things better when they link them to a picture in their mind... For example, I memorized motele, the Lingala word for ‘engine’, using a mem I created — I imagined an old engine in a motel(汽车旅馆)room.”

DearTom,
In order to protect traditional Chinese culture, an activity about the culture of the Han Dynasty was held in our school hall yesterday. Since you are interested in traditional Chinese culture, I am writing to tell you about it.
The activity started with a wonderful dance performed by several girls wearing beautifully designed clothes. Later, a teacher introduced the characteristics of the clothes and the etiquette of the Han Dynasty. Students who had questions asked the teacher actively.
Through this activity, I have learnt more about the culture of the Han Dynasty. It's really meaningful.
Yours,
LiHua

参考范文:
Igraspthehandleandcylinderanduseitasabatteringram. The extinguisher bounces off the glass, too. The only hope is to weaken the window by knocking it. By this time, the water level is about four inches from the cab ceiling. My fear has grown to the point that it's now approaching panic. It's dark and cold and I'm exhausted. I think of giving up; then I remember that Stormy is under the camper shell.
I'mgoingtotryharder. I take air, submerge and swing the extinguisher as hard as I can. And suddenly the impact feeds different. There is a hole in the window. I'm going to live. I swim out the window to the camper shell door. I struggle to open it, out swims Stormy. We swim for the shore and climb up the canal. Though embarrassed about losing control of my vehicle, I'm pleased that I don't panic as I go through the problem solving process.
