Instead of gulping (狼吞虎咽地吃) your food, try eating more slowly. It may help you drop those unwanted pounds. The conclusion is from a new study by Japanese researchers.
The study showed that compared with people who gobbled their food, those who ate at a normal speed were 29 percent less likely to be obese (肥胖的). But those who ate slowly were up to 42 percent less likely to be obese. In addition, slow eaters tended to be healthier and have a healthier lifestyle than those who ate quickly or at a normal speed.
"However, this study could not prove that eating speed causes or stops obesity," the researchers noted. They were led by Dr. Haruhisa Fukuda from Japan.
"Slow eating has its advantages and a few disadvantages," said Samantha Heller from New York City." On the one hand, slow eating gives our bodies time to register a sense of satisfaction and fullness, so we eat less. We are more likely to enjoy the taste of food. On the other hand, the longer some people sit in front of food, the more food they will eat, " she said.
"Speed eating appears to be far more harmful. People who eat quickly, as many of us do, gulp far more food than they need. In many European countries, slow eating is a way of life," Heller said, "In America, speed eating takes the lead. Thus, we need to encourage people to have a change, learn the way of slower eating from Europeans and get a true enjoyment of food."

Once a king got two nice falcons(猎鹰)from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.
After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch(树枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still.
The king called all his falcons together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He spent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. “ it is unbelievable !” shouted the king. How could you make it happen ”
The farmer replied,“It’s very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested.”
It is always the same to human beings. We all have “two flying wings” in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we just for safety and comfort. We won’t realize we can fly so high and freely until the “branch” we are resting on breaks.

For a couple of generations, it has been argued whether students should be allowed to watch TV during the week. I am here to say yes. 36
After a little bit of careful thinking, any parent will realize that watching TV after school is a good way for students to relax. Our lives are busier than our parents' were when they went to school. Not only are we getting more homework, but we also have many other things to do after school. There is tutoring(辅导班), sports clubs and community service. When we do get home, we are tired. 37
38 They had few channel choices. Most of the programs were silly. Today, the average household has over a hundred channels to choose from. In one hour, we can learn about ancient Egypt and planets travelling around other stars. Many parents think our learning has stopped once we are on the couch, watching TV. 39 Television can be educational. It shows us more things than a textbook can.
Lastly, today's smart students use TV watching as a reward for finishing all their homework. Television does not keep us from our work. Instead, it encourages us to do it. 40
So, students should be allowed to watch TV on school nights. Do you agree with me

4.C

5.A
故选A。
6.D
7.B

be sad to让人难过的;be afraid to害怕;be glad to高兴;be worried about担心。根据“The best way to avoid any trouble might be to ask for some patience(耐心).”
