On Thanksgiving Day, most of us will sit down to enjoy a turkey dinner. The bird also shows up on the table at Christmas. How did we start with the tradition of savoring turkeys during the holidays
They were fresh, cheap, and big enough to feed a group of people. Americans like having large poultry(家禽) for celebrations because they don’t need to pay a lot for the birds. Cows were more useful alive than dead, and beef wasn’t widely offered until the late 19th century. Chicken was more highly regarded than it is today. Venison(鹿肉) would have been another choice, especially during the 17th and 18th centuries. Eating turkey was also a British holiday custom people brought to the New World.
Among the big birds, turkey is the most suitable for Thanksgiving. Turkeys were born in the spring. They spend about seven months eating insects on the farm. By Thanksgiving, they have grown to about 10 pounds. Turkeys are cheaper than geese, which are more difficult to raise, and cheaper by the pound than chickens. Cost is an important factor for holiday shoppers, because people will not prepare just one meal. Thanksgiving Day is the time to bake meal and other types of pies. The foods can last through the winter.

In the town of Lampang in northern Thailand, there is an unusual group of musicians. They play many different kinds of music—from traditional Thai songs to music by Beethoven. Both children and adults love this group. What makes them so popular Is it their music Their looks Yes, it's both of these things, but it's also something else:they're elephants.
These musical elephants are from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (TECC)in Lampang. The TECC protects elephants. It teaches people to understand and care for these huge, but gentle, animals. And, like many zoos around the world, the TECC encourages elephants to paint.
Richard Lair works with the TECC. He knew that elephants hear better than they see. So he had an idea:if elephants are intelligent and they have good hearing, maybe they can play music. To test his idea, Lair and a friend started the Thai Elephant Orchestra. During a performance, the elephants play a variety of instruments, including the drums and the xylophone. The animals also use their voices and trunks to make sounds.
But can elephants really make music properly Yes, says Lair. they’re very creative. Humans may encourage the animals to play instruments, but the elephants make their own songs;they don't just copy their trainers or other people.
51. Since then has spent
故填Since;then;has;spent。
52. as soon as reading
就……”,所以用as soon as的结构。 故填as;soon;as;reading。
53. have fun enjoy yourselves
故填have;fun;enjoy;yourselves。
54. many different kinds of
【详解】很多:many/ much,不同种类的:different kinds of,前面的“很多”是修饰后面的复数名词kinds,所以应用many,故填many different kinds of。
55. on your next day off
【详解】此处是句子的时间状语,根据语境可知,next意为“下一个”; on one's day off 意为“在某人的休息日 ”,根据指代一致的原则,物主代词用your;故填on;your;next;day;off。
56.Which one would you like to choose 57.Which hotel do you want to live 58.it’s very cheap 59.Will you please fill in this form 60.Certainly

60.根据上一句问句“By the way, is it all right if we pay by credit card ”和后面“Enjoy your weekend.”
【点睛】根据上下文问句和答句判断所空缺处的最佳答案,是我们在做完成对话时的重要方法,例如第5小题,根据上一句问句“By the way, is it all right if we pay by credit card ”和后面“Enjoy your weekend.”
