He Jiang, a postgraduate(研究生) in biology, will become the first Chinese student to give a speech in the commencement(毕业典礼) at Harvard University on May 26.
Given the highest honor by the university, He Jiang, who was born in a small village in Hunan Province, said, "People in China often believe that it's useless to study and children from the countryside cannot be successful in the future. However, I cannot agree with them. Education can change a person's life. I hope my experience can encourage the students from the countryside to spare no effort in study and make their dreams come true."
Different from many other families in the village, his parents never thought about finding a job in big cities and leaving their two sons at home without their care. His father was strict about their studies. He and his younger brother studied at home while the other kids in the village played in the fields. Unlike his strict father, his mother took her sons' side when her husband scolded the boys. She preferred to sit with her sons when they studied rather than chat with other women in the village.
Getting the chance to speak at the commencement is no accident. During his first days in Harvard, it was quite difficult for him to follow the professors in class and he was speechless in campus because of his poor English. Instead of giving up, He Jiang spent all his free time on English. He also made friends with natives to improve his spoken English. One year later, he had little difficulty in class and soon became one of the top students in his class. With the encouragement from Professor Diana Eck, He Jiang decided to apply(申请) for the chance to speak at the commencement." Few Chinese students had applied before, but I wanted to have a try. I just want to realize my idea of letting more people hear the voice from China and telling them that China is not what it used to be." said He Jiang. After beating three students from Harvard Kennedy School in the third and final round, He Jiang made it to get the chance to speak at the commencement.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is made up of many different kinds of gases. It is so big that 1,300 Earths could fit inside Jupiter! And it has 79 moons. Some of its moons are like small planets, and others are pieces of rock and ice. Studying Jupiter’s moons has helped scientists learn more about the solar system. But the moon that scientists are most interested in is Europa.
The conditions on Europa make it the most likely place beyond Earth to have life in our solar system. It is covered in a layer of ice, and some scientists believe a liquid (流动的) ocean lies under the icy surface. If this is true, Europa may have simple forms of life in these oceans. The creatures on Europa would probably be too small to see without a microscope (显微镜). But the idea of anything at all living on Europa is very exciting.
Right now, we cannot explore Europa because it is too cold and too far away to send people there. The spacecrafts and robots we have are not dependable enough to land on the surface. But scientists have big plans. In the future, they hope to send one robot to melt (融化) some of the ice on Europa’s surface, and another robot to swim through its oceans. The information that these robots gather could help find out whether there is life in Europa’s oceans.
If we eventually find some form of life on Europa, then it is almost certain that life formed independently in two places around the same star. If so, it would be reasonable to believe that life springs up in the universe quite easily once there are the necessary ingredients, and that life might be found throughout our galaxy (银河系), and the universe. If life were found on Europa, how might it change your view of the universe and our place in it
31.What is the passage mostly about

A.Europa is one of Jupiter’s 79 moons.
B.Jupiter is the solar system’s largest planet.
C.Europa has a layer of ice that may have liquid below it.
D.The creatures would be too small to see without a microscope.
35.What can we infer from the passage
A.Scientists are most interested in Europa because of its size.
B.Scientists will not be able to explore Europa until people are sent there.
C.If creatures found on Europa were too small, scientists would be disappointed.
D.If life were found on Europa, it might change man’s view of his place in the universe.

In the future, people may travel to Mars by water﹣powered spaceship! Today’s spaceships are fine for getting things into space, but they are not so good at travelling long distances. These spaceships burn chemical fuels(化学燃料)and they are very expensive. Scientists say that a water-powered spaceship could make the trip to Mars much cheaper. The idea is just in the planning stages now, but scientists think such a spaceship could be developed soon.
The key to the water﹣powered spaceship is the engine(发动机). Regular engines push spaceships by burning fuel. The water engine will use steam, created by solar panels that heat water to a high temperature. Of course, the spaceship will have to carry a lot of water for the long trip to Mars.
One US company has already developed a spaceship like this. These spaceships are made of a strong material. Two of them have already been sent up into space, using rockets and then later filled with air. “Balloon” spaceships could be very large and carry enough water for a long trip. With the “Balloon” spaceships, enough water could be carried to power the engines and grow food during the trip. And the people on the spaceship might even get to take a hot bath!
Scientists say the biggest advantage of such a spaceship would be its cost. The “Balloon” spaceship uses water to push it through space and costs about one thirtieth of a normal spaceship. Such savings naturally encourage continued research into balloon spaceships and water engines. If these scientists are correct, we may soon be on our way to Mars in a spaceship powered by water.
36.Which of the following statements is true ________
A.Chinese scientists have developed the water﹣powered spaceships. B.Scientists are thinking about developing water﹣powered spaceships
C.It takes people a lot less money to send today’s spaceships into space. D.Fuels﹣burned spaceships are much cheaper than water﹣powered ones.
37.The water﹣powered spaceships have to carry lots of water ________.

A.blowing up a balloon B.growing something to eat C.taking a hot bath D.starting the engine
39.The underlined “it” in the last paragraph refers to(指代)________.
A.the planet Mars B.water as “fuel” C.the “Balloon” spaceship D.a normal spaceship
40.What’s the main purpose of this passage ________

In 30 years from now, what will we eat Will the food still be the same as it is now
The United Nations says that there will be over 9 billion people in the world by 2050. Our food needs will grow by 70%. What we eat now may not be enough for humans in the future. That is to say, we'll have to turn to something else. But what else can we eat Here are a few possible choices.
Veggie(Vegetable) meat
A new kind of hamburger is now popular in the US. It looks the same as any other hamburger, and so is the taste. But it's actually a "beef" burger made out of plants. The company behind the burger, Impossible Foods, uses peas and potatoes to make the "beef". They take coloring, protein(蛋白质)and fats from these plants and mix them together.
Making meat out of plants uses less water and land than raising animals for meat. It also creates fewer greenhouse gases. Some food companies are making chicken, pork and other meat out of plants, too—follow the same steps as making the "beef".
Insects
Insects take up little space and don't make much waste. They also have more protein than beef, chicken and pork. This makes insects another possible food of the future.
It's common for people in some places to eat whole insects. But most people probably won't want to see the insects they eat. So in the future, people will first turn insects used for food into powder(粉末). Then they can use the powder to make other foods like chips, protein bars, biscuits and so on.
Algae
The BBC says algae farming could become the world's biggest farming industry in the future. They point out that algae is cheap and grows very quickly. Also, it's very nutritious(有营养的). It has much more protein and oil than many other plants.
Besides eating algae as a dish on its own, people may also use algae oil and algae butter in the future. Some algae has a strong taste. The UK scientists are trying to use algae to take the place of salt.
Reason: Traditional food may not 1 of people in the future because of the rising population. Result predictions: ☆Humans will have enough food. ☆Future food is good for both 2 .
Veggie meat Insects Algae
Advantages ☆has the same looks and tastes as any other 3 ☆uses less water and land than raising animals ☆creates fewer greenhouse gases ☆take up little space ☆make less waste ☆have more prolein ☆cheap and grows quickly ☆rich in protein and oil for humans ☆used to get oil from and make butter ☆possible to take the place of salt because of its 5
Producing processes 1st:take coloring, protein and fats from plants 2nd: mix coloring, protein and fats together 1st:turn insects used for food into powder-to avoid making people feel 4 and 4 when eating 2nd:use the powder to make other foods

Unforgettable Memories
How time flies! I’m going to finish my junior middle school soon. Lots of memories left in my mind. Teachers, classmates, hard work and above all friendship stay in my mind. Looking back, I have gone through either the joy of success or the pains of failure. Teachers are friendly to us in life and always strict with us in study. Classmates and friends help me so much.
With their help I’ve made great progress. But I’m a careless boy. And I always make mistakes which can be avoided.
Senior high school is a new beginning and it gives me a chance to overcome my shortcomings. As it is said, “It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, but our choice.” The two-month holiday will also provide me the freedom to think over and make up my mind to do it better in the future. And I believe I can do it.
