①Four years ago, Hakobyan Aleta came to China from Armenia to work as an English teacher. She has visited many places in China like Beijing, Tianjin and Yunnan. Aleta says she likes the country’s beautiful views (景色) and different customs, but what interests her the most is Chinese folk (民间的) stories.
②For a long time, Aleta has looked for the best way to share Chinese folk stories. Finally, she found it—the shadow play (皮影戏). While visiting a museum in Xi’an, Aleta watched a shadow play show and fell in love with this art form. “I was very excited to watch a shadow play show for the first time. Later, people in the museum invited me to see how the artists worked. At that time, I realized that was what I wanted,” Aleta said. Having a hobby is a great way for you to feel happy and meet new people. In fact, there are lots of hobbies that are good for you.
Hobbies are simply anything you do that’s for fun. You aren’t getting paid to do it; it’s something you like to do with your free time. For a lot of people these days it seems like their only leisure activities are watching television and staying on the Internet. That’s a pity, because hobbies — from rock climbing to collecting something — can have real benefits.
Hobbies often provide something that you might not get in your everyday life. They allow you to do something that’s just for you, and they can help you forget your daily problems and give you a lot of pleasure. If you can find like-minded people in your area, going outside can also be a great way to meet new people and experience new adventures.
If you are adding a new thing into your life, you have to take time and focus away from something else. The good news is that most of us have a lot of time we are not using well, either because we are spending a lot of time online or watching TV or just wasting time we could be spending on our hobbies.
Of course everyone is different and your personality does play a role in what sorts of hobbies you’ll like. Maybe you really like hanging out with friends, so you need to take a class or have an interest that you can do with a group.
