Text 10
M:Here is a piece of news about paper.Scientists have come up with a new type of paper that can be used again up to 20 times.Users will be able to either remove the writing from the paper themselves, or leave it to disappear over a period of time, after which the paper will be completely blank and ready to be printed on again. There is no big change in quality between the first and the twentieth printout.Under normal circumstances it seems that the writing will remain perfectly clear for at least three days, long enough for most practical purposes. The new process does not require ink.Instead, the paper is printed on by using a mixture of chemicals and light. If users want the print to disappear more quickly, they can apply heat to the paper. This can take as little as ten minutes. The hope is that in the future this paper will be widely used, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to the ordinary paper.

At one time or another in your life you have probably done origami, even if it was just making a paper airplane or something more complicated like a paper crane. The chances are that as you did it, you reflected on how inventive this traditional art is.Animals, boxes, flowers, boats: it all can be created from a single square or rectangular sheet of paper simply by folding it.No cutting, no pasting.
But did you ever stop to think how the same techniques might be applied to engineering Equipment that could be of real practical use Origami meets the demand for things that need to be small when transported and large when they arrive, like the everyday umbrella. In fact, origami-inspired creations have already flown in space; in 1995, Japanese engineers launched a satellite with solar panels that folded like a map.
“It's now mathematically proven that you can pretty much fold anything,” says physicist Robert J.Lang, who quit his engineering job eight years ago to fold things full-time.Lang, an origami enthusiast since age six, advised a well-known car manufacturer on the best way to fold an airbag into a dashboard. He is currently working on a space telescope lens that, if all goes according to plan, should be able to unfold to the size of a football field.
At the other end of the scale, researchers are also working on tiny folding devices that could lead to breakthroughs in medicine and computing. There's no doubt that computers of the future may contain tiny, folded motors or capacitors for faster processing and better memory.
Applications for origami engineering go further than many of us might imagine.“Some day,” says MIT's Erik Demaine, “we'll build reconfigurable(可重构的) robots that can fold on their own from one thing into another, like Transformers.Too much like science fiction to be true Maybe—though you certainly wouldn't want to bet against it.”

American illustration changed dramatically.Pictures that Norman Rockwell created with oil paint on canvas(油画布) were gradually superseded by “photo illustrations”. Today, illustrators are able to make pictures with computers to put in magazines that arrive on the Internet.Digital images and electronic art are more and more popular.
But the heart of illustration will always be its creativity, not its tools.Just ask award-winning artist Gary Kelley. He is no software engineer working in Silicon Valley; instead, he has enjoyed a long and successful career working from a town in Iowa.He still uses traditional media such as oil paint and pastels, but his ideas are new.
Illustrators drawing for advertisements get paid the best, but that is not always the most fun.For Kelley, it's the storytelling aspects of art that make illustration fun and interesting. He started by illustrating stories for magazines such as Time, The New Yorker, and so on.With fewer magazine stories to illustrate, he started to create a series of murals(壁画) for the national bookstore chain Barnes & Noble. He also illustrated a number of books.More recently he has illustrated novels.
But perhaps the most interesting innovation was Kelley's attempt to illustrate music.Kelley recalled that he was listening to The Planets, an orchestral suite by a famous English composer, when images began to appear in his mind.He decided to see if he could create pictures that showed the qualities of the music. He said, “I'm going to see what happens.”
He associated a series of beautiful pictures to be projected on a huge screen above an orchestra while it performed. He found a willing partner in the WCF Symphony Orchestra in the creation of the illustrated music.Their work was well received, which motivated Kelley to create more. The Planets was followed by Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony, Gustav Mahler's Nachtmusik, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite, and even music by Duke Ellington.
The lesson here is that a true artist can find all the creativity they want, right where they are.

38.D Once she decides, she invites that person to her studio and takes hundreds of photographs. She studies the way the light falls across the person's face. After many hours of studying the photos, she chooses the perfect one for her portrait.Next, she enlarges the photo on a canvas(画布).Then, she matches the colors in the photo and the stitching begins.
Cayce starts with the hair and forehead, then moves on to the shoulders and clothing, and finally the face. The human face is what she most enjoys creating in her art. 39.B In a portrait of her baby daughter, the skin appears soft and smooth. In a portrait of her dad, the stitches show a wrinkled and aging face.
Cayce believes her success depends on three things: her choice of colors, the length and direction of the stitches, and her ability to make the portrait look true. She loves the surprise when people view her art. From a distance, people believe the portraits are painted. 40.G
A.She makes sure the person looks straight into her.
B.The biggest challenge is making the skin look real.
C.Instead of painting with a brush, she sews with a needle.

分析句子可知,逗号后的内容在句中为状语,短语:date back to“追溯到;起源于”,句子主语“Chinese paper cutting or jianzhi”与动词短语“date back to”为主谓关系,所以此处用现在分词。故填dating。
分析可知,“ 58 is popular both home and abroad”在句中为定语从句,先行词为the paper-cuts,在从句中作主语,所以用关系代词which/that。故填which/that。
分析句子可知,空处在句中为谓语,结合前文“...the paper-cuts are used to decorate doors and windows...”,所以此处的时态为一般现在时;句子主语they与动词短语refer to为动宾关系,所以此处用被动。故填are referred。
故填to。
故填A。
短语:fail to do sth.“未能做某事”,所以此处用不定式to feel。故填to feel。

Dear Jack,
Our school held an art show entitled “Most Honored Workers” last week, to which our students and teachers gave an active response.
The works submitted came in different forms of photos, paintings and handcrafts. All of them told vivid stories of the beauty of diligence and persistence in different walks of life. Those present at the show all gave a big applause to the works on display, saying that they learnt a lot from these ordinary but honourable workers.

A Real Hero
Mindy had a pet dog.She took him for a walk every day.Usually she took him to a park near her house. The park was next to a river. Many people took their dogs there.Almost all the dog owners knew each other. They often stopped and had a talk.
For Mindy, it had been a happy place until a homeless man moved into the park.He usually slept under a tree near the river. He was very dirty. He had no teeth, and his clothes were old.He even sometimes talked to himself.Mindy was a bit frightened. When she went to the park, she tried to stay close to other dog walkers. She was unwilling to meet the scary man.
Then winter came and it was cold and wet in the park. The homeless man didn't have warm clothes and seemed as if he couldn't bear to go through the winter.
One morning when Mindy was walking in the park, she encountered the homeless man again. To Mindy's surprise, he was wearing a warm yellow hat that was quite new and clean. He walked towards her, smiling and pointing at his hat.Mindy was so scared that she ran as quickly as she could.“Mindy!” one of the dog walkers called out to her.It was Alison.Mindy ran towards her.
“Mindy! He is harmless! He won't hurt you! He just wants to show you his new hat! He is so happy,” explained Alison. But Mindy still felt bad.“I'm sorry, but where did he get the hat?” Mindy asked.“I bought it for him.I saw it in the $2 shop.It is so cold and he is so poor.I wanted to do something for him,” answered Alison.“It's very kind of you,” said Mindy with a smile.
Over the following few days the weather became even worse. It rained all day and all night, Mindy didn't want to enter the park.Though she felt OK, she was still afraid of the homeless man.So she just took her dog for a walk along the streets outside the park instead.
注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
One night when Mindy was watching the TV news, the words “Homeless hero saves a man and a child!”appeared.____________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
The car driver was moved to tears. ____________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
解析:
Paragraph 1:
One night when Mindy was watching the TV news, the words“Homeless hero saves a man and a child!” appeared. The newsreader explained how a car crashed into the river next to the park.Though people walking dogs in the park all ran to help, the homeless man ran faster than all of them.He swiftly jumped into the river without hesitation and helped the driver out of the car. Then he managed to pull the child on the back seat out of the car.He saved the little boy as well.
Paragraph 2:
The car driver was moved to tears. He shook the homeless man's hand tightly and said he could never have lived without his son.He then promised that he would give the homeless man a big sum of money in return to express his thankfulness. But the homeless man shook his head and refused. He said with a shy smile that he just did what anyone else would have done. After hearing the news, Mindy suddenly realized what a real hero the homeless man was.So Mindy decided to do something special as well.UNIT

The best friendship to be described in Chinese literature probably the one between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi.
Yu was a famous master(大师) music who played the qin well.
Once, he took a boat trip to the state of Chu.Inspired by the beautiful view along the way, Yu took out his qin and began to play. After a while, he noticed a woodsman(樵夫) enjoy his music quietly. The man was Zhong Ziqi. When Yu played music that described high mountains, Zhong said: “How wonderful it is!
