One problem that most university students understand is not having enough money. Here are some money-saving tips for students.
Tip 1: Every month, make a list of your expenses in a notebook. Write down what you spend money on, and when you spend it. Also, write down the income you get each month. Doing this will help you make better decisions about when to spend and when not to spend.
Tip 2: If you have time, getting a job is, of course, one of the best ways to earn money. But even better is getting a job in a restaurant. Some restaurants give food to their workers so you won’t need to worry about paying for meals.
Tip 3: Buy secondhand textbooks whenever you can. When you buy them from another student, you won’t even have to pay tax. Many students sell lots of their things when they leave. Make sure to look around for lists of used things for sale at your university and shop at secondhand stores if you can.
Tip 4: Eating in restaurants can be very expensive. You can save money by eating at home with family or by eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner with your roommates and sharing the cost.
Tip 5: You can spend less money on transportation if you buy a bus or train pass. This can save you 30 percent or more. Cars are a big expense, so if you live on the university campus, leave the car at your parents’ home.

D. Answer the questions:
Here are some stories and facts about nicknames that you might find cool.
Why are they called “nicknames”
Hundreds of years ago, many people believed that names were a person’s private property(财产) and that they shouldn’t be spoken too often. Because of this, people started using other names to call each other, and in old England, these were called “eke names”, which means “added names”. Over the years, people began pronouncing the word “eke” wrong, and it changed to “nickname” at last.
Unknown actors
In the early days of Hollywood, many actors and actresses thought that starring in movies would hurt their stage acting careers, so they kept their names out of the credits (演员表). Movie fans, not knowing the real names of their favourite stars, began calling them by nicknames, like “the Cowboy”. Even after the actors learned that movie fans would not hurt them, the people in charge of the studios refused to say their real names out because they were afraid that fame (声誉;名望) would lead to big salaries. They were right about that one!
Policemen and robbers
The FBI (联邦调查局) has a habit of giving wanted bank robbers unforgettable nicknames so that the police can be on the lookout (警戒;监视) for them. One New York robber got the nickname “the Bad Breath Robber” because his breath was so stinky (恶臭的). A famous robber called “Pretty Boy” because of his good looks and a more recent robber was nicknamed “the Ugly Robber”. He probably wasn’t as handsome as “Pretty Boy”.
