One morning. I was on the underground going to work. A voice came over the
speaker. It said, “This stop is Shady Grove Park”. I heard a little voice repeat (重复) it
and looked down. A young girl said it again, “This stop is .….” Carefully and slowly,
and with a little roll of her hand, she said it over and over again. It was like she was
teaching a little child.
Then I understood. She wasn't teaching a child. She was teaching her mother! I listened and
heard the mother talk to someone in English. She said that she was Japanese and that she was
learning English from her daughter. The mother certainly could talk in English, but she still had a
long way to go. Being Japanese, she said that she had problems with “th”and “t”sounds. Luckily, her
daughter was very patient(耐心的). When she finally got them right, her daughter smiled and gave
her a high five.
At the next stop, the mother said the name of the stop with perfect pronunciation, “This stop is
the Railroad Station.”
It was a cute start to my day. All day, I thought of that girl and her mother and felt happy. The
girl cold speak three languages. Japanese, English, and French. and she could speak English as well
as native speakers! She taught her mum English very patiently all the way. Most special, however,
was the mother's willingness (意愿) to learn from her daughter.

It's said that cats are not just pets to us all these years. They are, in fact,
learning from their owners(主人) and taking them as models. Scary, huh
A new study from the University of Messina shows that indoor cats who live
closely to their owners copy the lives of their owners. For example, they sleep at the
same time and eat at the same time. Just like a parent for a child, the same is true for a cat owner and
his cat.
Many owners think their cats are as family members, so they spend much time with cats, hoping
to give the best care and love for their cats. This is one of reasons the cats learn from their owner's
actions(行为).
Another reason is that cats are clever animals with a long memory(记忆). Jane Brunt, director of
the Catalyst Council, told Discovery News. "Cats watch us and notice our actions, knowing where
their food is and what time to eat meals, where the washing areas are and how to open the cupboard
door that's closed. "
A new study also shows that cats understand 25-35 basic men's words, such as food, eat, sit, no,
stay, and stand. If owners train a cat to learn these words, cats will get closer to them. But in fact, cats
can't understand our 'meows'.
So try to do better when you are in front of cats. If you spend a lot of time searching the kitchen,
your cat will copy you and take food to its bowl for the night meal, too. That’s why cat owners and
cats overweight rates(肥胖率) often seem to synchronize.
Next time you reach for your kitchen, think twice. If your cat is watching, maybe she will
overeat as well.
39. The text is mainly about ________________.
A. cats and owners B. cats and home C. cats and language D. cats and parents
40. According to the passage, what does the underlined word "synchronize" mean
A. change quickly B. go down C. get lower D. be the same
41. According to the passage, which of the following is True
A. Cats can learn from men's actions. B. Cat can't find food from closed cupboard.
C. Cats are always looking at their owners. D. Cats understand most of our language.
42. The writer will probably agree that ________________.
A. people need to live with the cats
B. children can keep cats in their houses
C. people should share the story of cats and men
D. pet owners should have healthier ways of life
D
When you have a different opinion with your friend, what should you do One
of the ways is to talk to your friend and tell him or her how you're feeling. It's
always important to share your feeling with your friend.
Of course, sometimes friends do drift apart. As we grow older, our interests
change and sometimes this means that a friendship may not be as close as it once was. This also
means that you, too, may find a different group of friends to spend time with.
Then what should you do to keep friends One helpful thing is to be sure you let others know
you like them. Smile, talk to them, listen with interest and praise them for the things you like about
them. People naturally like to make friends with the people who understand and enjoy them.
It's also important to remember that you should always be yourself. Sometimes when you focus
on “keeping friends”, you might begin to do things or act in some ways that aren’t normally part of
your personality. What’s more, if your friend is unfriendly to you, that doesn’t mean you should
become unkind to other people. If keeping a friendship means you have to become someone who you
aren’t, that friendship isn’t worth(值得) keeping.
43.When you have a different opinion with your friends, you should ____________.
A.keep quiet and have a good rest B.tell how you’re feeling to them
C.keep away from them for days D.go to your parents for help
44.The underlined words “friends do drift apart” in the second paragraph mean ____________.
A.friends often help each other B.friends may fight with each other
C.your friends may make you sad or angry D.the friendship between you and your friends ends
45.What should you do when keeping friends
A.Praise and enjoy your friends. B.Do things just like your friends do.
C.Say something that is bad to your friends. D.Try to do everything that your friends like.
46.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.It's important to agree with our friends sometimes.
B.People shouldn't lose themselves to keep friends.
C.It isn't worth keeping a good friendship with others.
D.We are encouraged to be hurtful to unfriendly people.
