Firstly, it is wise to consult with your teachers about your challenges in each subject, which enables you to receive the most effective and suitable solutions from them. Besides, it is highly recommended that you develop a habit of regular exercise, since sport is a universally tested method to relax your body and mind. In this way, not only can you turn negative emotions into beads of sweat, but also you will feel refreshed and dynamic to defeat pressure and anxiety.
I hope my advice will be of some help, and that you can gradually overcome your difficulties through your efforts.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.Para 1:
“A swimming black dog!” Katie cried out in surprise. First she felt a little frightened, because the dog was huge and wet. Then she tried to calm herself and guessed that “maybe it is just hungry.” So she offered her sandwich to the dog. After finishing its meal, the dog walked up to her and sat down beside her. She bravely reached out her hand to touch its head and introduced herself to it. The dog nodded as if to say “Nice to meet you, Katie.” From then on, Katie and the dog became friends.
Para 2:
Every day, Katie brought five extra sandwiches for her friend. She told the dog everything that happened to her at school. Sometimes, she sang or danced and the dog just nodded along. For the first time, she didn’t feel lonely. When her classmates knew there was a lovely dog swimming in the lake, they went with her to play with it after school every day. They spent time with her and the dog. All of them played games, sang, and danced. Having many friends gave her joy.

Text10:
M: You’re about to finish high school, and I want to explain what I did when I was your age. I was lucky, at that time, that your grandfather was so supportive. My father always firmly believed in me — the same way that I believe in you. That’s why, after graduating from high school in New York, your grandparents sent me on a trip to Asia to learn more about life. I landed in India as a fresh-faced 18-year-old kid with endless curiosity about the world. There, I worked at a school in exchange for food and a place to stay. Although I didn’t earn any money, I was happy and learned so much about life. From there, I flew to Australia and got my first job. This position wasn't an office job or anything fancy. I painted houses in the sun for 12 hours a day. I’m telling you this story not to encourage you to have a similar experience, but to inspire you to do as much as you can in your teens and early 20’s. You’ll be glad you did.泸州市名校2023-2024学年高一上学期10月月考

From the day a person opens his or her eye in this world to the point when success surrounds them, curiosity is something that never leaves their sides. It stays with them and instills (灌输) in them a sense of exploration; it pushes them to take risks, and uncover the hidden mystery. It is a powerful quality as it helps people develop an understanding of different aspects of the world.
Many parents get annoyed when their children ask too many questions. They do not realize that by not responding (回应) to the questions and curiosity of these little ones, it might take away their chances to learn new things. Learning is every individual’s right, and no one can take away one’s eagerness to explore, discover, and learn new things.
The former president of the United States, Roosevelt, once said, “I think, at a child’s birth if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to give it the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity.” If a child asks too many questions out of curiosity, parents must answer the questions with patience. The way they respond will determine(决定) whether a child grows up to be a smart learner and an explorer or not.
While some parents take these matters lightly, there are some who attend to the needs of their young ones’ hunger to learn smartly. Regina, a life coach and public speaker, instead of losing her calm on her daughter’s nature to frequently question everything, she tried to respond to her daughter with love and affection (关爱). Not only did she answer all her daughter’s questions, but she started thinking of other curious kids out there who were eager to discover the hidden secrets of this world.
24.What will happen if children get no response to their questions
A.They’ll be less patient. B.They’ll learn more smartly.
C.They’ll likely take adventures. D.They’ll lose opportunities to learn new things.
25.Why does the author mention President Roosevelt’s words
A.To show children are gifted. B.To state patience is necessary.
C.To stress curiosity is important. D.To suggest parents be understanding.
26.What does the underlined phrase “attend to” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Take care of B.Give way to C.Get tired of D.Make use of
27.What will be most probably talked about in the following part of the passage

C.Regina helped other curious kids. D.Regina answered her daughter’s questions.

It’s normal for teens to want to stay connected with friends and social circle, but what about that happening in the middle of the night The Journal of Youth Studies recently published new research showing that one in five teens from 12 to 15 regularly wake to spend all night on social media (社会媒体). Not surprisingly, the research also showed that these social night owls were three times more likely than others to feel tired at school and that girls were more likely than boys to be called to office.
The blue light produced by cell phones and computers makes the brain to stay awake, so it's easy to see why a teen might be up all night. A study in Psychological Science showed the same brain reaction: when teens saw large numbers of “likes” on their posts, they stayed awake with excitement as if they had eaten chocolates or won money. Besides not catching up on sleep and interrupting their sleep cycle, teens may never fully enter deep sleep that may be responsible for brain development and learning.
Considering about 72 percent of children from 6 to 17 sleep with some electronic media in their bedrooms, parents need to set rules sooner rather than later.
“Providing access (使用机会) to social media is a favor that children can earn and also lose,” Janie Feldman, an expert who treats sleep disorders (紊乱), reminds parents, “The bad effect is clear. So teens and parents should discuss and agree on its use, timing and access. When teenagers agree to the rules, it’s easier for parents to control how much time they use the phones or computers.”
28.What does the underlined part “night owls” in paragraph 1 refer to
A.Girls often called to office.
B.Teens who stay up late on social media.
C.Teens who are busy with their homework at night.
D.Boys regularly waking in the middle of the night.
29.How do teens react when seeing many “likes” on their posts according to the study
A.They are too excited to go to sleep.
B.They fall asleep easily and happily.
C.They are too excited to go to school.
D.They decide to make more good friends.
30.What suggestion does Janie Feldman give to parents
A.Making rules about media access together with their children.
B.Getting their children to do homework through computers.
C.Encouraging their children to stay connected with online friends.
D.Stopping their children from using cell phones.
31.What is the main idea of the text
A.Deep sleep makes a big difference to brain development.
B.Kids are trying to win back the trust of their parents.
C.Social media may have a bad effect on all kinds of people.
D.Social media may cause teens’ sleep disorders.

Can you think of something that has been around for thousands of years and is still used in different cultures around the world Something that fits this description is makeup.
Even though makeup might seem new, it was an important part of daily life in ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. At that time, both men and women utilized things like eyeshadow, eyeliner and lipstick nearly every day.
For a better make-up result, a wealthier Egyptian woman would first clear her dead skin using salts from the Dead Sea. Then, she would use a milk-and-honey face mask to wet her skin. Taking milk baths was also a way to make the beauty routine (日常) a more luxurious experience. After all of this, the makeup could then be applied.
But people in ancient Egypt didn’t just use makeup to look more attractive. They also used it for rituals (宗教仪式). For example, a black powder called kohl was used around the eyes to protect them from the bright desert sun. In fact, the Egyptian word for “makeup palette” comes from a word that means “to protect”.
These makeup palettes (调色板) were used to mix colored powders with animal fat or vegetable oils to make the different products. They usually had symbols (符号) of animals or goddesses on them. It was believed that the powers of these animals would be put into the makeup when it was mixed together, giving the wearer unusual talents.
Interestingly enough, makeup was also an important part of ancient Egyptian burial rituals. From life into death and beyond, makeup helped to shape ancient Egyptian culture. Even though makeup is still used in modern times, it is interesting to know that it is linked to the ancient world.
32.What does the underlined word “utilized” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.bought. B.used.
C.removed. D.changed.
33.What would wealthy ancient Egyptian women do before putting on their makeup
A.Go swimming in the Dead Sea. B.Drink milk to wet their skin.
C.Remove the dead skin with honey. D.Follow a beauty routine.
34.What did ancient Egyptians think about makeup palettes
A.They helped deliver messages from goddesses.
B.They protected them from bad luck.
C.They gave people special abilities.

Katie had always felt like she never connected with anyone. There was no one she considered a friend. So, when her parents decided to move, she was okay with it. She didn't feel sad because she wasn't leaving anyone behind.
She was eight when they moved to a new town. It wasn't that different from where they had lived before. There were a lot of trees and kids running around outside, riding bikes, and playing. One day her mother caught her staring out the window at some kids playing. Her mom told her to go out and play with those kids. So Katie went out. She could see that they were all having fun and she wanted to join in but she was afraid. She tried to muster up the courage to ask them if she could join them but she just couldn't do it.
She decided to go for a walk instead. She liked how peaceful the town was. The people seemed nice and polite. Her stroll finally led her to the town's lake. She felt the rush of cold air hitting her face. The beauty of the lake was something to behold. She sat there admiring it and decided that this would be her place. She would come here every day and maybe one day, she would bring her friends here.
After school, she always stopped by the lake before going home. She swore she could stay there for hours, maybe even live there. If she ever got hungry, she always had food ready in her bag.
One day when she was writing a poem about the lake, she heard her stomach growl. She put down her notebook and her pen and got her sandwich out. She was about to take a bite when she heard a noise. This alarmed her. She hadn't heard or seen anything strange before. She looked around and suddenly she noticed that there was something black moving toward the bank.
