Debating (辩论) changed my life.
I grew up extremely shy and spent most of my time avoiding people looking at me. As for public speaking, it was always something that gave me high amounts of stress when I was in primary school. I didn’t have any friends and felt lonely, having no one to talk to.
After I became a junior high schooler. I decided that I was going to change that. At the end of a Monday, a poster of the school debate team caught my attention. I took a deep breath and walked the long hallway to the debate coach’s room, alone. Although I was scared to death, I introduced myself to the coach. Mrs. Brown. I was met with a warm smile and understanding of my fears. Little did I know, I was beginning one of the most important journeys of my life.
In the debate team, I met students from other classes. After several training classes, we became friends. It was the first time I made some friends. In another round, I only brought up some soft anguments. Mrs. Brown noticed this and she told me, “Alice, true friends have heated debates with each other and still remain friends after that.
