Gan Yu and Luo Yong are the workers of a power station. When a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Luding County in Sichuan Province on September 5, they chose to stay and save people’s lives.
They climbed up the dam(水坝) and opened two floodgates to let the rising water out. It saved the lives of hundreds of villagers. Then Gan and Luo realized the generator(发电机) was still on. It was a huge risk, so they rushed to turn off all the switches. The two stayed at the station that day without eating any food.
The next day, they moved out together to save themselves. Gan is nearsighted. Unluckily, he lost his glasses and got too weak to walk on. He asked Luo to leave first and he would stay where he was and wait for help.
Before parting from Gan, Luo found some dry leaves to help Gan stay warm. He also left some wild fruits and other food. Luo was saved on September 8, but Gan was no longer at the place when a rescue ream(救援队) arrived.
On September 21, Gan was finally found by a local farmer named Ni Taigao. Ni’s village is at the foot of the mountain. After knowing that people were looking for Gan, he joined the search. He set out for the mountain early that day. Two hours later, he heard Gan’s weak cries for help. He soon found him lying on the ground. Later that day, other rescuers arrived and took Gan to the hospital.
The whole rescue has been called a “miracle(奇迹) of life”. Luo Yong, Gan Yu and Ni Taigao are all heroes.

Alaa’s voluntary work soon spreads to the wider community—a playground, the digging of a well, and an orphanage(孤儿院). This book is about humanity(人性) at its finest. It will no doubt encourage kids and adults like to do what they can to make a difference to the world.
Besides its amazing true story, another great thing about this book is how it came to fruition. One of the two writers Irene Latham first learned about the Cat Man of Aleppo in 2016. She wanted to write about it but said I knew I wanted to share this story, but I wasn’t sure how — I am not from Syria...” Several years later, Irene met Karim Shamsi-Basha, a writer from Syria and knew the people of Aleppo.

The Chinese word “shan”, meaning “mountain”, appears in the name of the Chinese band Shanren, meaning “mountain men”.
Born in the mountain areas of western Yunnan, the leader of the band Qu Zihan learned many local ethnic (民族的) songs. He didn’t realize the value of those tunes (曲调) until much later.

Gan Yu and Luo Yong are the workers of a power station. When a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Luding County in Sichuan Province on September 5, they chose to stay and save people’s lives.
They climbed up the dam(水坝) and opened two floodgates to let the rising water out. It saved the lives of hundreds of villagers. Then Gan and Luo realized the generator(发电机) was still on. It was a huge risk, so they rushed to turn off all the switches. The two stayed at the station that day without eating any food.
The next day, they moved out together to save themselves. Gan is nearsighted. Unluckily, he lost his glasses and got too weak to walk on. He asked Luo to leave first and he would stay where he was and wait for help.
Before parting from Gan, Luo found some dry leaves to help Gan stay warm. He also left some wild fruits and other food. Luo was saved on September 8, but Gan was no longer at the place when a rescue ream(救援队) arrived.
On September 21, Gan was finally found by a local farmer named Ni Taigao. Ni’s village is at the foot of the mountain. After knowing that people were looking for Gan, he joined the search. He set out for the mountain early that day. Two hours later, he heard Gan’s weak cries for help. He soon found him lying on the ground. Later that day, other rescuers arrived and took Gan to the hospital.
The whole rescue has been called a “miracle(奇迹) of life”. Luo Yong, Gan Yu and Ni Taigao are all heroes.

Alaa’s voluntary work soon spreads to the wider community—a playground, the digging of a well, and an orphanage(孤儿院). This book is about humanity(人性) at its finest. It will no doubt encourage kids and adults like to do what they can to make a difference to the world.
Besides its amazing true story, another great thing about this book is how it came to fruition. One of the two writers Irene Latham first learned about the Cat Man of Aleppo in 2016. She wanted to write about it but said I knew I wanted to share this story, but I wasn’t sure how — I am not from Syria...” Several years later, Irene met Karim Shamsi-Basha, a writer from Syria and knew the people of Aleppo.

The Chinese word “shan”, meaning “mountain”, appears in the name of the Chinese band Shanren, meaning “mountain men”.
Born in the mountain areas of western Yunnan, the leader of the band Qu Zihan learned many local ethnic (民族的) songs. He didn’t realize the value of those tunes (曲调) until much later.
“I listened to Western rock music, and I tried to play Western musical instruments when I decided to be a rock musician. However, I found the instruments’ limitations(局限性) made it difficult to create my own style,” Qu said.
