I was in a strange city and I didn't know the city at all and what's more, I could not speak a word of the language.
After my first day in the town center, I decided to lose my way on my second day, since I believed that this was the simplest way of getting to know the strange city. I got on the first bus that passed, rode on it for several stops, then got off and walked on. The first two hours passed pleasantly enough. In order to learn more about the city, I decided to walk back to my hotel for lunch. After walking for some time, I decided I had better ask the way. The trouble was that the only wordI knew of the language was the name of the street in which I lived and even then I pronounced it badly.
I stopped to ask a friendly-looking newspaper seller. He smiled and handed me a paper. I shook my head and repeated the name of the street and he put the paper into my hands. I had to give him some money and went on my way. The next person I asked was a policeman. The policeman listened to me carefully, smiled and gently took me by the arm. There was a strange look in his eyes as he pointed left and right and left again. I thanked him politely and began walking in the direction he pointed.
About an hour passed and I noticed that the houses were getting fewer and fewer and green fields were appearing on each side of me. I bad come all the way into the countryside. The only thing lelt for me to do was to find the nearest railway station.

三、听短文,回答问题。
Good morning, everyone, Now many people want to learn a second language Today I'll give you some tips on how to learn a new language
First, you should know why you're doing it. If you don't have a good reason to learn a language, you are less likely to keep learning it as time goes by,I'm learning French now because I want to study in France one day. It encourages me to keep learning it. My brother learned French because he wanted to impress English speakers with his French. This isn't a very good reason and he has stopped learning it.
Second, you should find a partner, My cousin Henry leaned several languages together with his twin brother Michael. They encouraged each other and helped each other to learn. If you have a partner, you can learn a new language much more easily.Third, you can talk to yourself. When you have no one else to speak to,there's nothing wrong with talking to yourself. It might sound strange, but speaking to yourself is a great way to practice your new language.
Fourth, you should have fun with it. You can practice your new language by writing and recording songs, make a radio play with a friend, write a poem, or simply talk to whomever you can. If you can't find a way to have fun with the new language, chances are that you'll find it boring.

Dear Dave.
I'm glad to hear from you. You asked me about how to learn Chinese well. Here is my advice.
First, as a foreigner, you need to join a Chinese learning activity group. Youcan learn Chinese characters from your teachers and practice it with classmates. And the most important thing is to remember as many Chinese words as possible.Second, you'd better read Chinese books, newspapers and magazines. You canalso watch the Chinese TV programs or DVDs.
Third. singing or listening to Chinese songs helps you learn more Chinesewords as well.
Finally, you can make some Chinese friends. Your friends can teach you a lotof Chinese songs and introduce some Chinese festivals to you, too. You can learnmore about China.
I hope you can learn Chinese well.
Yours,
Li Ping
