(2019 . 广东广州市高二测试)When Lina was awoken by the sound of thunder, she was alone on the island. The air was cool and bullfrogs croaked(呱呱叫). It was that brief moment when the summer sun had set but the stars hadn’t yet appeared.Lina rubbed her eyes and looked around.
“Hello ” she called. “Celia Marie ”
There was no response.
The moon was rising now, shedding light on the island. They had always called it Forgotten Island because only they seemed to remember its existence. It wasn’t on any of the maps they could find, and even the forest rangers didn’t know about it. Lina loved that the island, hidden in a heavily wooded side stream of the river, was a secret among the three friends-Celia, Marie and her.
But now Lina was here alone, and it was night. Worse still. it was her own fault.
“Come on, Lina, let Marie row the boat,” Celia had said. Marie was two years older than Lina, but she was a hope less rower. That’s why Lina refused and rowed the boat to the island. The argument that followed the refusal took the usual form. Celia took Marie’s side, as she always did. Lina had exploded and yelled at them to just leave. So they got back in the boat and left.
A bolt of lightning crossed the darkened sky, accompanied by a deafening thunder clap. The storm was here.As the first cold raindrop slid down her neck, Lina’s mind returned to her current problem. She was stuck here by herself. She just hoped she didn’t become as forgotten as the island. The thought of it sent a chill(寒意)down her back.
In her excitement Lina jumped into the river. Only once she was in the icy water did she remember how fast the water was moving. Luckily a strong arm reached into the water and pulled her out. She smiled weakly at Marie’s dad and, without a word, hugged Celia and Marie. They didn’t seem to mind becoming wet.

(2019 . 辽宁鞍山一中高二期末)I went nose to nose with a mouse last week, and I’d rather not say who won.
I was cooking when my friend phoned me to help her catch a mouse she had found in the kitchen. The mouse was under the fridge when I arrived. The cat was standing guard slowly swinging its tail. I tried to put a broom handle beneath the fridge to force it out, but there were too many wires. my friend pulled up a chair at the table and i pulled a chair beside the fridge, armed with a plastic box as my trap. It was a good plan, but as is usually the case, it didn’t go according to plan.
After a while, the mouse put its head out. I knelt down on the floor in front of the fridge and angled the box to create a no-escape trap. The mouse moved out farther and I put the box down immediately. Unfortunately, the only thing inside the box was the mouse’s tail, still attached to the mouse, which was now struggling with its little legs in an attempt to take to its heels. The cat just sat.
The mouse crawled(爬) up on the broom handle I’d used earlier, and we were now eyeball to eyeball. If I’d wanted to-and I didn’t--I could have seized it with my teeth. I shouted I needed something else to get the mouse. My friend handed me another container. I lowered box two over the mouse’s body, still on the broom handle, with its tail still in box one. Despite my two-box move, the mouse escaped and shot back under the fridge.
Shortly after I left, my friend found the mouse. It was bathed in the sunlight in her bedroom. The cat was sitting next to it, enjoying the rays as well. She said they were a cute couple. Learning from my mistakes, she got a box-and a lid-and said the mouse all but jumped in the box and helped her seal the lid. Just a small change brought about an unexpected result.

How to “Fight” Fair
Arguments happen in every healthy relationship-we know it sounds contradictory, but it’s true-but they can still have a negative impact if they aren’t handled properly. 16
Take a breath. We know that it can be hard to think clearly when you’re angry, so we would first like to encourage you to try to take a second to collect your thoughts before engaging in a dialogue with your partner. Anger can be poisonous and if you re not careful you could potentially say something that might damage your relationship.
17 Even though you’re angry and it can be hard to be objective, try to see the situation for what it is. Do not escalate(不断恶化)the argument just because your partner does. Ask yourself if this situation is worth arguing about. Try to under-stand the purpose behind an action-if something happened accidentally, you should not treat it as if it were done intentionally.
Avoid making excuses. 18 Denying something only makes it more hurtful and often your partner will be able to forgive you much more quickly if you are honest.
Set ground rules. After a fight you and your partner can take stock of what happened. 19 At this point you can set some ground rules for future fights, like not cussing each other or calling each other names, which might help reduce the intensity of your fights.
20 And it’s especially difficult when you’re arguing with someone that you care about.
Thinking carefully and controlling yourself during an argument can help you avoid saying something that could permanently hurt your relationship.
A. Take positive action.
B. Take the situation as it is.
C. Fighting with someone is never easy.
D. Here’s how to deal with the major dramas.
E. You can discuss what hurts each of you and how you can move forward.
F. If you have done something wrong, the best possible option for you is to admit it.
G. The trick to preventing an argument from destroying your relationship is learning how to fight fair.

(2019 . 山东省实验中学高二诊断)Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school, when, on turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with(插手)this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he learned that true courage is shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong Thus, he just ignored the other boys laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled, and screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did not even try to help him.

One possible version:
Good afternoon, everyone!
The topic of my speech is"School Safety". There's no doubt that school safety is directly related to students' healthy growth and the happiness of millions of families. But how to guarantee school safety
Firstly, we should keep our classrooms and other school areas well organized. Secondly, the last to leave the classroom must lock all doors and windows. Thirdly, raise fire safety awareness and turn off all electrical equipment as long as we don’t use it.
Take action right now to create a safe campus!
Thanks for listening.
One possible version:
Robert was fast sinking. It seemed as if Robert would be drowned. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time. By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Thus, Roberts life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behavior and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
