III.读后续写
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It was a Saturday afternoon. The colour of the sky was changing, first light gray, then dark gray, and finally dark and dense. The wind was blowing heavily, and the trees were swaying in the strong wind. It began to rain cats and dogs. Soon, the road was filled with puddles from the rain.
On such a stormy afternoon, my mother took my five-year-old brother, Christopher, and me to a new big toy store she had read about in the newspaper. “So many toys,” the advertisement had shouted in full and flashy colour, “that we had to get a huge warehouse to fit them all!”
Christopher and I couldn’t have been more excited. We ran across the parking lot, through the cold and biting rain, as fast as our little legs could carry us. We left our mother outside to battle with the frustrating umbrella, which never worked when she wanted it to. “Christine! Take care of your young brother!” Mother shouted at the top of her voice.
“Christine! I’m going to find the Lego section(乐高积木)! There’s a new pirate ship I want, and I have four dollars! Maybe I can buy it!” Christopher exclaimed and ran off excitedly. I only half heard him. I took a right turn and, to my wide-eyed delight, found myself in the midst of the Barbie(芭比)World.
I was studying a Barbie and doing some simple math my head when suddenly an earthshaking clap of thunder roared from the storm outside. I jumped at the noise dropping the doll to the floor. The lights flickered(闪烁)once and died, covering everything in Blanket of blackness. Thunder continued to shake the sky and lightning illuminated the store for seconds, casting frightening shadows on my mind.

IV.概要写作
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Have you heard an old saying “The grass looks greener on the other side of the fence” It means other places often look better, more interesting than the place where you live. “Let’s go to KFC for dinner and then watch some Japanese cartoons!” We all know it:more and more Chinese kids love American and Japanese food and movies Some people worry that young Chinese are beginning to feel that way. They see young Chinese ignoring Chinese culture and, instead, buying Japanese cartoon books, watching Korean soap operas and even celebrating western holidays.
Foreign books and soap operas are good, but Chinese writers and actors are just as good. As for holidays, Christmas is nice, but it can never have the meaning for Chinese that Spring Festival has, and the West has nothing to compare with the Mid-Autumn Festival. China has lots of cool things in its culture: calligraphy, Beijing Opera quick meals on the streets, and even Jay Chou! And let’s not forget the part of Chinese culture I like best: its friendliness. Not all countries are as warm as China.
It’s good to enjoy other cultures and learn from them, but they can never replace your own culture. It’s good to look on the other side of the fence, but make sure you take a good long look. You will find that the grass isn’t always greener.
Although some people become worried about that, I don’t think they should. Will we get more powerful without learning from other countries Will Chinese people live more happily without American fast food Besides, it’s fun to learn about different cultures, Chinese kids can learn about other cultures and have fun, but they also need to learn more about their own culture. Be proud of Chinese culture and of being Chinese!

I. A One possible version:
Boys and Girls,
Today I feel great honour to invited introduce a Chinese festival to you. Since you happened to come to China during the Qing Ming festival, I’d like to tell you something about this traditional holiday.
“Qing Ming” which means clear and bright in Chinese, falls on April 5th every year. It is both the fifth term in the traditional lunar calendar and a festival to hold memorial ceremony for the dead. It is a time to express one's grief for his lost relatives.
People often go to sweep and weed graves with whole family and take a walk in the countryside as well. In Tang Dynasty, the habit of taking a walk on this day was developed. At this time, spring returns and dominates the earth again. The feel of growing life is in the air. Trees turn green and buds burst, adding vigor and vitality to the surroundings. This custom can be traced back to over one thousand years ago.
In that morning people eat “qing tuan”(a kind of rice ball coloured green) which is very delicious.
That’s the general introduction of Qing Ming Festival. If you have any questions, you are free to ask Thank you very much.
B One possible version:
Dear Tom,
Some of us do seem to be celebrating Christmas these years. But for most of them, the celebration is no more than dining together or sending cards to each other. Christmas trees are sometimes put up in or outside big shops and restaurants. But they are used as means of sales promotion rather than celebration. In fact, a lot of Chinese know little about Christmas.
Though some people here celebrate Christmas, it does not mean traditional Chinese festivals are giving way to Western ones. For the Chinese people, the most important festival has always been, and will forever be the Spring Festival, during which we go on a weeklong legal holiday for family reunion. I myself grow up with a deep love for the Spring Festival, enjoying setting off firecrackers, visiting relatives and friends and going to all kinds of celebrating activities during the festive period.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
III. One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“Oh no,” I thought, “Where’s Christopher ” Scared, I was frozen to the spot, overcome with the need to see my brother, to hug and make certain he was all right. My stomach twisted and turned inside. I ran up and down the aisles through the darkness, panic filling my small chest and making it difficult to breathe. I knocked into displays of candy and tripped over toys, all the while frantically calling my brother’s name. Anxious as I was, I could barely see his figure. Tears of frustration and fear trickled down my face, but I continued to run.
Paragraph 2:
“Christine, I’m here.” Excitement took my breath away—there in the dark Lego aisle I found Christopher. He was standing alone, perfectly still, clutching tightly to the pirate ship set. I began to cry out from relief, throwing my arms around him and him tightly. He hugged me back, saying, “I knew if I waited here, Christine, you would be able to find me.” Then, I took his hand in mine and we went to find our mother, who must be desperately searching the store for us.
